  1. "Really, the next time Honky Tonk Man is serving you a burger at McDonalds..."

Wait, what?!?! Plead don't tell me he literally works at BK

  2. I think the whole "heel shouldnt win a WM" main event became a thing later on and wasn't given much thought at the time as WM was still a new concept.

  3. Honky refused to job to the Macho Man? Didn't know that. Wow that might be the all-time worst case of delusion ever.

I was thinking the same thing. It might have been kind of cool to have a heel win early on to set a precedent

This e-mail was mine and this reminded me why I still enjoy sending in the occasional e-mail to Scott. I got a legit chuckle out of the McDonald's line.

  6. It wasn't so much refusing to job to Savage as he went to Vince and said, " I'm drawing well, give me a chance to keep drawing." At least that is what HTM said and he said Savage was cool with it at least once Vince said the World title was coming his way. DiBiase was the one that screwed but he did get to live the Million Dollar Man gimmick so win-win-win I guess.

  7. Eh send Trump in to punch him in the mouth and the fans go home happy.

  8. Ahh that makes sense. Thank you for clearing it up.

  9. I still cannot believe that a comedy mid carder's refusal to job changed the main event plans for the next year and a half. And everyone involved confirmed it, so that blows me away.

1- Why not just get a legit tough guy to take the title off of him (hell, Savage himself could probably do it, Honky doesn't strike me as a huge shoot fighter)?

    Or

2- Why didn't Honky just refuse to job against the Warrior also, stating the exact same "i'm a draw" argument?

    Just strange all around.

  10. Honky probably refused to put Warrior over too, but Warrior probably wrote him an 18 page essay (front and back!) on why he should be Intercontinental champion causing Honky to change his mind in fear of reading anything that long ever again.

  11. I don't have a solid answer to #1, but #2's easy. Honky had his run, had made just about all he could make, and for what he got for those 18 seconds, he was more than happy to drop the title.

  12. I think that was a joke. I hope that was a joke.

Yeah, good questions. I don't get how Honky had any sort of leverage on Vince. How does a guy like him look at Vince and say "I'm not jobbing, I'm a draw" without getting laughed out of the building? I get that HTM was drawing well on the house show circuit, but if I'm Vince, I'm saying "Dude, you are the fucking HONKY TONK MAN....you'll get out there and job my fucking belt to Mean Gene if I tell you to"

  14. However, keep in mind Vince does have a (mixed) history of respecting those who are willing to "confront" him... Honky might have figured "I got nothing to lose anyway" and gone for the fences. And hit it out of the park, in the end.

See, it's shit like this that makes me understand Montreal a bit more. After years of Vince listening to mid-carders refuse to job, contract disputes with Warrior, Shawn and Bret's bitching, etc. I can totally see where you would get a "fuck it, it's my company and I WILL get my job one way or another" mentality

Yeah, you're right. I think that really is a thing with Vince. He has some weird alpha male vs. alpha male complex
