Recommendation today is Halloween Havoc '89 from WCW. You've got Lex Luger vs. Brian Pillman and the main event of Ric Flair & Sting vs. Terry Funk & The Great Muta in a Thunderdome Cage Match. This was the inaugural Havoc, with an undercard featuring The Steiners vs. Doom and a Dynamic Dudes sighting. It takes place in Philadelphia, and it's ironic that Shane Douglas would become a star in the city that hated him.

Comments

  1. Of course depending on what city they're in, that could turn the Shield into instant heels.

    ReplyDelete
  2. Shit, if any wrestler had that "one big run" they'd be more than entitled to gloat.

    ReplyDelete
  3. How quickly into the segment will Flair screw up is what I'm wondering.

    ReplyDelete
  4. I hope so. After the Shane Douglas/Target stuff, I never know tho any more

    ReplyDelete
  5. He could use a triple powerbomb whenever he screws up those Legends roundtables shows.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Flair shouldn't be allowed to take bumps. He's a 65 Year old man!

    ReplyDelete
  7. Jef Vinson (Homewreckers Inc™)April 25, 2014 at 8:33 AM

Depends on if he is sober when the segment starts.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Guy hasn't taken a bump in a decade. Why do people still book him?

    ReplyDelete
  9. She might be my new favorite. I'm sure that will pass though.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Well he came to a show in 2007, and it was sold out (about 400 seats, small building). and that's the only time it ever sold out. And there was another big crowd last month.

    ReplyDelete
  11. She'll stay in my Top 10, but I doubt she'll threaten to move up much.

    ReplyDelete
  12. They won't allow him to do anything physical.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Jef Vinson (Homewreckers Inc™)April 25, 2014 at 8:37 AM

The pic of her in the bikini intrigues me, but she has to put in that work for awhile before I can bump her up.

    ReplyDelete
  14. I'm convinced it's just to hear the song.

    Love that song.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Jef Vinson (Homewreckers Inc™)April 25, 2014 at 8:38 AM

I wish they wouldn't allow him to do anything on camera.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Great review/plug Lax.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Hey, he's always wheeling and dealing.

    ReplyDelete
  18. The following I rank above her: Layla, Tessmacher, Bella's, Summer Rae, Emma, Lana, Taryn Terrell, Eva Marie, Alicia Fox, Stephanie, Velvet Sky. These are the active women in TNA/WWE i would take over her.

    ReplyDelete
  19. They might not when he shows up but they always seem to trot out legends when they go to St. Louis.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Jef Vinson (Homewreckers Inc™)April 25, 2014 at 8:42 AM

I'd pull out Summer Rae and put in Naomi.
...Naomi I wouldn't pull out of.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I dunno, she looks a lot worse than she did before, IMO

    ReplyDelete
  22. I will not quit and give my posting privileges to ironmike96

    ReplyDelete
  23. For all we know, Flair is doing the pre-show again. Who better to do analysis of the group than a guy who used to run with them?

    ReplyDelete
  24. Jef Vinson (Homewreckers Inc™)April 25, 2014 at 8:44 AM

I have no desire to see him with his eyes bulging out and sweating through his shirt as he drops elbows on his suit jacket anymore.

    ReplyDelete
  25. That would mean he would talk more and I don't think they want that

    ReplyDelete
  26. Jef Vinson (Homewreckers Inc™)April 25, 2014 at 8:45 AM

This is why I favor Layla. She's at least 10 years older than the average Diva and looks fucking fantastic.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Yeah, he is a sad case now

    ReplyDelete
  28. Jef Vinson (Homewreckers Inc™)April 25, 2014 at 8:46 AM

...but we'd miss long diatribes of the evils of homosexuality if you don't.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Layla is so fine. Looks better than ever too

    ReplyDelete
  30. I thought it would be weird to have her lose the NXT title while she still had the Diva's strap, would have been backwards logic. I'm much happier this way.

Trish has aged well too. In that type of business to still look as good as Trish and Layla do is saying something.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I still say Trish looks better now than she did while she was on the roster. God, that woman is gorgeous.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Possibly, but that's how they've used him for the most part. Makes more sense to banish him to the Network pre-show than to have his crazy ass on their flagship show.

    Indeed.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I don't usually go over the moon about celebrity women, but Trish really is the exception to that rule.

    ReplyDelete
  42. He might have actually been manic depressive.

  49. When we moved, we dropped cable. Haven't missed a thing. I have to wait an extra day for some shows on Hulu, big deal. The only thing I really miss is the Twins. But I might buy MLB package and find the way around their stupid blackout rules.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Honky knew his drawing was going down. I don't think he realized the run would be as long as it went. I think he just went to Vince and asked for a chance. I'm pretty sure if Vince said no lose the belt to Iron Mike Sharpe he would have even when he was first booked to drop it to Savage. Superstar Graham did the same thing to Vince Sr. and was turned down and Vince Jr. said he thought it was mistake to not leave Superstar on top a bit longer so that could have been part of it as well. Just speculation there though.

    ReplyDelete
  51. I've never been so turned on by someone who could in all likelihood break me in half...

    ReplyDelete
  52. Ironic since Douglas in ECW made fun of Magnum TA being broke when he wasn't (and isn't) but Douglas works at Target.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Sadly yes. Shame that Charlotte is his only sibling to inherit his wrestling potential and not his poor decision making. At least as a female wrestler she won't be under such immense pressure to follow her dad's accomplishments.

    ReplyDelete
  54. I guess you have a point, Honky had nothing to lose by campaigning. The worst case scenario was that Vince would say No. But he successfully talked him into it, so more power to him.

  60. Jef Vinson (Homewreckers Inc™)April 25, 2014 at 9:15 AM

    I agree with that.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Allegedly Vince did NOT like Shane and Raven's "exploits" on the road. So his time might have been limited no matter what.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Maybe it's the lighting here... but that one makes her look ten years older. Not the most flattering pic.

(Looks closer...) yep, it's the glare on my screen.

    ReplyDelete
  63. I disagree with the tanning bed. Not every woman needs to be tan to look good. And she pulls it off just fine.

    ReplyDelete
  64. You mention the Network paying for itself due to the annual cost of WrestleMania. That's true this year, but have we gotten any verification that WM will be on the Network every year? I thought it might be a one-time thing to get subscribers. I hope that's not the case but the WWE seemed to leave themselves an out with how they announced it.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Jef Vinson (Homewreckers Inc™)April 25, 2014 at 9:22 AM

She doesn't have to be orange, but a shade darker would help a little.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Watched this episode last night for the Road to the Rumble (yes, I plan on watching it, even the casket match). Johnny Polo really was amazing on the stick. I'm even at the point where I'm wishing Raven never even happened.

    ReplyDelete

  69. So drag out Harley Race. Or Ken Patera.

    ReplyDelete
  70. I hope one time they bring in Kevin Von Erich. The Von Erichs were *huge* here.

    ReplyDelete
  71. It seems like something they would play up. Not sure how they missed it.
BTW, this is my favorite running joke on the blog. Always good for at least one laugh.

    ReplyDelete
  72. "Shame that Charlotte is his only sibling to inherit his wrestling potential and not his poor decision making."

Yet. I know this isn't the wild 80's/90's... but she's nowhere near clear yet on that second one.

    ReplyDelete
  73. I hope Flair shows up in the back looking for Evolution like 'WHOOO where da hoez at!?,' gets Sheildbombed on the hood of a limo while he screams 'AHH OH GOD MY BACK' in typical Flair fashion.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Yeah I've been looking into that. I want to be able to stream it on my Roku

    ReplyDelete
  75. I don't think she'd even stand out at a popular bar or club. She's over rated

    ReplyDelete
  76. Only problem is, that would give the Shield heel heat, and Evolution potential face heat. Total opposite of what needs to happen.

    ReplyDelete
  77. btw: isn't that usage of terms like "White Knighting" wrong? (doesn't that by definition require another poster who is the one getting "helped"?)

    ReplyDelete
  78. None of which you need cable TV for, bob_barron.

    ReplyDelete
  79. I could. screw the 2014 washed-up version of Flair.

    ReplyDelete
  80. Well I meant so far. Judging by her body type though she seems extremely strong willed if nothing else.

    ReplyDelete
  81. it would still be awesome, though.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Depends on how drunk he is when the segment starts.

    fify.

    ReplyDelete
  83. I first thought you said BigNasty96. Be prepared for 20 threads a day on how the wwe network is a failure!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  84. He's terrible on those. He always talks over peoole, rambles, and strays off topic.

    ReplyDelete
  85. I guess this works perfect for a show like NXT.

    ReplyDelete
  86. Although Bret has Paige rated 5 spots above HHH in the Top 1000 wrestlers of all time list.

    ReplyDelete
  87. ISPs already do that with selective throttling and DNS servers that just happen to work poorly and update slowly on certain sites.

    ReplyDelete
  88. I forgot who made the post, but last time Flair was on Raw, someone said in the live thread that Flair "looks like he needs medical attention." It's actually kinda depressing.

    ReplyDelete
  89. I kind of want to see what Jesse Baker would do with posting privileges.

    ReplyDelete
  90. so what? a **** 1/2 match is also still a **** 1/2 match even if those who participated in it never come close to having such a match again.

    ReplyDelete
  91. Needs to call DDP pronto.

    ReplyDelete
  92. Flair needs to call out Evolution on their recent behavior and get beat down -- maybe even saved by The Shield. Classic booking 101.

If WWE tries to stick the always-popular Flair with Evolution we'll be in New Age Outlaws territory where they're supposed to be heels but because of their schtick they're still over as faces with arena crowds.

    ReplyDelete
  93. This would become a S&M/rape site really quickly.

    ReplyDelete
  94. :catches breath from laughing:
We all know that Paul would turn this place into a site about otters and DDP Yoga.

    ReplyDelete
  95. Evolution should fly-in on a helicopter at Extreme Rules.

    ReplyDelete
  96. Flair will face it up, no doubt. Maybe 're-join' Evolution in the process, only to be turned on, Shield make the save. EASY booking.

    ReplyDelete
  97. A limo to the tron would be good too.

    ReplyDelete
  98. Yeah, that's the one catch here, that he felt that levy was a very bad influence on Shane and probably was and Raven thinks this was one of the catalysts that lead to the "Who the fuck hired Raven?" Line.

Too bad for the Owen incident because the Shield rappelling to the ring from a military helicopter in Wrestlemania in Miami would have been a good look too.

    ReplyDelete
  103. how many other "monsters" were there that were presented better and more successful than Yokozuna? when I was kid I wondered why not every single of his jobber-opponents was taking out on a stretcher - because the banzai drop looked soo dangerous.

    ReplyDelete
  104. Honky Tonk Man is one of the smartest guys in 80s wrestling.

He's also one of the few remaining 1980s guys who still apparently makes really good money on the indie circuit -- few others have turned down the whole Hall of Fame induction deal and all the Legends stuff because they were still making bank in the indies.

    ReplyDelete
  105. I'd love to see Levy booking/commentating on TNA.

Just something fresh, entertaining, logical, and experienced.

Just spitballin' here, but can anyone see a no-nonsense chick getting over in the Shield? A girl like Paige wearing a variant on the SWAT gear? Can't be some arm-candy chick though, has to be a legit ass-kicker.

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  110. To add to the gripes, they should add Chromecast support. Right now the only way to watch WWE Network through Chromecast is to open it in Chrome on a laptop or desktop and then use the "stream this tab" plugin which is... not awesome.

    ReplyDelete
  111. The Immortal Hoke OganApril 25, 2014 at 10:12 AM

Sure, but they wouldn't be considered some all-time great worker on the strength of just one match. Honky tends to over-inflate his importance to the business on the strength of one strong run.

    ReplyDelete
  112. The Immortal Hoke OganApril 25, 2014 at 10:13 AM

    All the better. :)

    ReplyDelete
  113. Only thing I don't like about the NXT Womens thing is JBL told her that since she's on the main roster she can't have the title since she will be traveling to much yet Natalia is a candidate for the title?

    ReplyDelete
  114. I think he actually signed the Legends contract this past year, but your point still stands.

Another major gripe coming from WWE network subscribers has been the rate at which archival footage has been added. WWE has a comprehensive library of classic footage and to date has only added a very small fraction of it, with promises of new content to continually be added. This has led to frustration for many subscribers who want to see
specific content that has, as of yet, not been made available.

The network does offer a live stream 24 hours a day, but the live stream often becomes very repetitive, showing the same programming several times a day for weeks at a time. Furthermore, some of the original shows created for the WWE Network haven’t received good reviews, including WWE Legends House, and could be looked at as filler content more than anything.

  120. A lot of that is living the gimmick. He still calls himself the greatest IC champion of all-time and he (admittedly) constantly plays up 'heat' he has with other guys to keep his name out there.

i know that usually you get ads targeted to your own interests and searches, but i think i'm getting ads targeted towards the author, b/c all i see are ads saying, "meet married women now!"

    ReplyDelete
  123. but did Honky ever claim he was a top draw once his intercontinental championship run was over?

    ReplyDelete
  124. Jef Vinson (Homewreckers Inc™)April 25, 2014 at 10:23 AM

Why yes. I am quite familiar with LaStarya's work as well as Bria Myles.

    ReplyDelete
  125. 1) I can't stand the Honky Tonk Man. At all.

    2) Things worked out exactly how they should've. You can't lose Hogan-Andre II at Main Event, because it was (correct me if I'm wrong) the most watched match in U.S. wrestling history at that point.

    ReplyDelete
  126. Yeah, he's pretty shitty, from a promo and wrestling standpoint. I have no clue the appeal.

    ReplyDelete
  127. I'm guessing Flair is going to show up and ask HHH for a job. It would make storyline sense but we don't need any more authority figures. I'd make an exception if he was going to play the role Mr. Perfect had.

    ReplyDelete
  140. woo.

(Sorry, but that's about as much enthusiasm as I can come up with for another Flair return...)

    ReplyDelete
  141. Yeah, T&A Trish was not the hottest thing IMO. Although the scene with Kurt's actual medals is still a classic.

    ReplyDelete
  142. I've seriously considered cutting cable but it always comes down to 1 thing...sports.

    ReplyDelete
  143. Plus I'm lazy with stuff and having internt/phone/cable under 1 account is way too easy

    ReplyDelete
  144. I want him to win Survivor. NINJA STEALTH MODE!!

    ReplyDelete
  145. "cable companies haven't been providing that in a lot of people's view."

Examples? My only real gripe with cable is that you can't pick your channels in an a la carte fashion. The price difference in something like would be pretty minimal.

    ReplyDelete
  146. That would actually be a great gimmick for The Shield. Sort of like "the sandman" (Showtime at the Apollo version, not ECW) of the Legends Roundtable.

But yeah, Flair is consistently awful on those.

    ReplyDelete
  147. Oh no. You mean the kid who made the youtube video to meet him? The stone crusher kid?

  150. Bob Barron? The priest? I'm confused

    ReplyDelete
  151. Although powerbombing Flair's tired ass SHOULD get an act face heat at this point, yeah it still wouldn't play that way. They should probably have Batista and Orton beat Flair down while HHH watches and say "It's what's best for business, Ric" and then chuck Flair's HOF rings in the trash.

  154. Chromecast is kind of lacking in general when compared to Roku/Apple TV in my opinion.

  155. I don't think so, I and everyone else assume it will be every year... this is the only time I have even seen that questioned.

  156. Well wouldn't YOU be helping on behalf of all women every where? That is how I use it.

  158. The real solution to your problem here is... BE A FAN OF A GOOD TEAM!

  160. I always get the meet young filipino women one/meet cougars ones. Last time I go to reality kings on my phone.

    ReplyDelete
  161. Totally agree. Even to get the major online packages would cost a decent penny. Do highly enjoy MLB.TV but their blackout rules can be a pain in the ass. There is a reason that live sports get the best ad dollars and networks paying for rights.

    ReplyDelete
  162. True story first other person's wife I nailed? Filipino.

    ReplyDelete
  163. Sports is definitely the last piece of the puzzle that is keeping cable companies business model afloat... there are options but none are really as good as cable.

    ReplyDelete
  164. I still wish Bigelow had been given Yoko's spot instead. Not that I hate Yoko or anything but Bam Bam was such a great big man wrestler. Could he really have done worse?

    ReplyDelete
  165. let me reiterate this one more time. YOU CANT GET SPORTS WITHOUT CABLE FOR ANYWHERE NEAR THE CONTENT OR PRICE. Period. You can buy all the various packages and spend a shitload of money and you still have blackout issues for local teams. Not to mention that streams are spotty and have issues all the time. And any real sports fan knows the joys of hopping back and forth between 2, 3, even 4 or 5 games (particularly for college football or the NCAA basketball tourney) and that is much, much more difficult for a streaming program. Once you add the cost of 3 or more sports streaming packages plus Hulu, Netflix, etc. you aren't saving anything and it's more of a hassle. And I don't want to have to play games with proxies and other illegal activities just to watch my home team.

    ReplyDelete
  166. Using a proxy will work. I use proxies.org. Just gotta find one with a good enough connection may take a few tries. Change it over just to load the stream. Once the stream loads you can take proxy off to use your normal connection.

  167. Nice. I'm glad to see that you don't do discriminate against unhappily married wives

    ReplyDelete
  168. just like everything else in this fucked up country it's just a huge commodity for a few to make money and the rest of us to bend over and take it.

    ReplyDelete
  169. what a hassle. and of course you can't flip around between innnings, periods, halfs, etc. without having to get a new proxy right?

    ReplyDelete
  170. What about stuff like HBO and Showtime? If cable eventually does start to lose enough people to streaming services, could they offer just their channel to a streaming service?

    ReplyDelete
  171. Well, the only way around that is the illegal streams which are available. Quality can tend to suck.

    ReplyDelete
  172. since Dish has dropped WWE ppvs, I would assume they were told this is a long term thing that includes WM every year.

  174. Ric Flair mentioned in his book that he was offered a deal by Vince that would have had Flair/Savage as the main event for the first SummerSlam. With the Brainbusters already in the company at the time, could you imagine basically having the core of The Horsemen in the WWF together in their prime?

    ReplyDelete
  175. Not at all. She still ranks in my top 3 best fucks ever actually.

    ReplyDelete
  176. I don't see any reason they wouldn't be able to. I think they will once they are convinced the demand is there. I am sure they would love to be able to get their subscription fees directly as opposed to having to deal with cable providers.

    ReplyDelete
  177. yeah I think they could get away with their own streaming channel. Right now they also hold people to cable since you can't get lots of original shows from them on Netflix (Amazon has some older HBO but isn't generally part of the prime, you have to buy it a la carte. Game of Thrones was the highest rated show on cable last week on a network that 80% of cable subscribers probably don't even get (and yes I did pick that number out of my ass).

    ReplyDelete
  178. Not to mention the irony of Flair telling someone not to live off their past glory

  179. Wwe sent his mom a framed picture of him pinning HHH while all the wrestlers were cheering from ringside. Very cool of them.
