So....the guy who got to the top of the company because he is an amazing wrestler was in a gimmick match at the last ppv, was scheduled to be in a gimmick match at the next ppv and a gimmick match at the msg show...
ReplyDeleteHe got to the top because of his yes gimmick without that who knows where he is.
ReplyDeleteI am really tired of Jim Cornette having 1,000 shoot interviews where he rants and raves and is still stuck in 19fucking88.
ReplyDeleteExactly. We've heard the same stories over and over again.
ReplyDeleteI was just about to post something along these lines. Stop interviewing Cornette, people. We've heard everything he has to say a thousand times, and you already know how it's gonna go:
ReplyDelete"Vince Russo is the worst thing that ever happened to wrestling"
"Kevin Steen is fat"
"I wouldn't believe anything Paul Heyman said if his tongue was notarized"
"Every house in the Mid-South days was sold out twice over and people tried to kill us in every town"
I was thinking this too why the fuck would RF pay this guy for another shoot. I don't think Cornette could possibly have anything else to add maybe shoot on his last run with ROH but I'm sure it'll turn into how awful the business is or how he's going to piss on russo's grave.
ReplyDeleteYeah, that's our job.
ReplyDeleteI agree but in the trailer, Cornette even asks them why the ask him so many questions about Russo and I think just about everything else I saw in the trailer was told on his "Breaking Kayfabe" shoot from earlier this year
ReplyDeleteYou mean 1982
ReplyDeleteAnd republicans and guns
ReplyDeleteHe already went off about ROH on his MLW podcast.
ReplyDeleteDont forget Kenny bolin is god
ReplyDeleteFORFEIT! HHH SHOULD BE CHAMP!!
ReplyDeleteGimmick matches aren't quite the same as gimmicks.
ReplyDeleteI would argue the word Yes did not get him to where he is, it was a very easy way for the fans to show their support and rally around the guy they supported.
ReplyDeleteApparently people have an interest in them.
ReplyDeleteHow about Orton in the US Title hunt?
ReplyDeleteSheamus vs. Orton vs. Del Rio... wonder who eats the pin that THAT match.
ReplyDeleteYep. Cornette sells interviews. It is why he has done so many of them
ReplyDeleteOrton
ReplyDeleteI buy his shoot interviews and find his rants entertaining, but yeah I can't imagine anything new he has to say with this new one.
ReplyDeleteJust watched the Ambrose/Reigns promo from Raw. That was money.
ReplyDeleteI love Cornette's podcast (minus the political/church stuff), but I can't stand kenny Bolin. I was very excited when they first talked about him and I listed to 15 minutes of their interview and nothing. I didn't hear anything interesting or funny from him.
ReplyDeletePut Rollins' work rate and Ambrose's mic skills in Reigns' body and you've got wwe's wet dream.
ReplyDeleteI'm selling some property in Florida REAL cheap.
ReplyDeleteDel Rio easy.
ReplyDeleteThe one that's not Triple H's buddy.
ReplyDeleteNot like this case is a travesty though. Fuck Del Rio.
Watching First Take, yesterday was DJ Khaled or something and today is Lil Wayne. I ask the question, why can't any mainstream rapped speak proper English?
ReplyDeleteToday's crop of rappers is probably the weakest ever.
ReplyDeleteNo way are any of these guys fucking with the 90s.
"why can't any mainstream rapped speak proper English?"
ReplyDeleteI never said anything about typing.
ReplyDeleteGiven how much Russo loves the guy I wonder if he had anything to do with world champion Eric Young.
ReplyDeletehe meant "proper American"
ReplyDeleteI'm tired of Cornette in general.
ReplyDeleteIt's a combination of many things. To be fair, The YES movement was a big part of it in the same way that Austin 3:16 was a big part of his rise. Weirdly enough, Hugging it out was a big part of it. The anger management thing. Team Hell No. Etc.
ReplyDeleteIt should be noted that The Yes thing also would not have worked with another character I don't think. (As was evidenced when Big Show tried to co-opt it).
There's just something about Bryan. I really dislike this "Fluke" win nonsense they're saying. Vince never called Austin's victories a fluke win. This neck injury could not have come at a worse time. Hell, they could have screwed him out of the belt at MiTB. 7 man ladder match for the title? Have Seth come in from the crowd and screw Bryan that way. Just as he was going to win. Oh No! It would have been fun.
Adam "Pacman" Jones, a disgraced football player, signed with TNA. Despite sundry off-field shenanigans, Jones managed to stay under contract with the Tennessee Titans, who scored a court order forbidding Jones to become physically involved in any wrestling match in any way whatsoever. Guess leapfrogging someone a couple times and throwing a football at someone's junk didn't count as being "physically involved". TNA paired Jones off with Ron "The Truth" Killings (WWE's R-Truth). The pair defeated Sting and Kurt Angle for the TNA Tag Team Championships without "Pacman" doing any wrestling at all. Yes, you read that right: a man not allowed to wrestle in any way won a wrestling championship.
ReplyDeleteMan LOLTNA is taking me down memory lane.....seriously....how did this company last TWELVE YEARS so far?
It's hard for people to figure that out, I guess.
ReplyDeleteR-Truth beat Sting and Kurt Angle BY HIMSELF?!!
ReplyDeleteThey should have toned down the amount of extremely physical matches Bryan was working. As someone here pointed out Bryan was working 2 and sometimes 3 matches at the same show on TV tapings. It is a miracle that the dude didn't burn out and walk away and quit like Punk.
ReplyDeleteI agree. And he took a few dives to the outside wall which were not caught by his opponent.
ReplyDeleteWhy do you hate all Mexicans? Racist!
ReplyDeleteThats one of the reasons I love the shield. They have one guy thats the mouthpiece one guy that has the look and is the muscle and one guy that has the in ring ability. Just like the freebirds and the original nwo (hogan nash and hall)
ReplyDeleteIt's kind of amazing but TNA used him fairly well - he wasn't a dancing cannon fodder jabroni most of the time.
ReplyDeletePlease please please end Wyatt-Cena. It feels like it's been going on forever with no clear ending in sight: did Cena's loss do anything? Did Wyatt's other than being reborn after missing a week of Raw? Their matches aren't that good. I guess it keeps Cena out of the title picture, so yay for that?
ReplyDeleteHogan - mouthpiece
ReplyDeleteNash - muscle
Hall - worker
I'm assuming?
They usually do tone down the amount of physical involvement top guys at Mania have until the last couple weeks before Mania and Bryan was doing gauntlets all the time - and not against the most protective workers. Even at house shows.
ReplyDeleteI don't hate Del Rio, he's just boring as shit with no heat whatsoever.
ReplyDeleteSo did that mean R-Truth beats two legends handedly?
ReplyDeleteSort of? I don't really remember the match. Truth was an upper midcard to upper card guy in TNA. He wasn't a dancing joke there.
ReplyDeleteMany of them can, it's just an image thing.
ReplyDeleteCountry and rap artists are similar in that they get more brownie points the more "authentic" their image is. In some ways the image is more important than the music. When 50 Cent first got big just as many people were talking about how he got shot 9 times as they were about how much they like "In Da Club".
The sad part is that ESPN puts these guys, who have little to nothing to do with sports, on TV. I'd rather hear from the mascot of the single A baseball team in Buttfuck, MN.
411 completely redesigned their layout
ReplyDeleteNWO? All three of those guys had mic skills and muscle, but at that point in their careers none of them could work.
ReplyDeleteI don't know why people say this is some huge rub for Wyatt. Still no pinfall. Man was I enraged when he walked out of the cage.
ReplyDeleteHas anyone seen the layout for 411mania lately? Holy shit, fuck that site.
ReplyDeleteI didn't really notice a difference.
ReplyDeletewow, it looks completely different
ReplyDeleteHall wasn't really a worker at that point.
ReplyDeleteDid he have one good singles match in WCW?
LOL just visited that page and my Norton antivirus just informed me that the site tried to attack my computer.
ReplyDeleteMaybe it's taking longer or something? I really don't see any difference between when I looked last week.
ReplyDeleteHe really wasn't in WWE either until he turned face again after his team with the Miz ended.
ReplyDeleteEven his initial face run had him positioned as a decent midcarder.
I agree with that, when he first came into the company he was having good competitive matches every week on Smackdown with the upper tier workers.
ReplyDeleteA loon conspiracy theorist character should have been mega over in the age of birthers and truthers - the face turn totally killed him.
ReplyDeleteWas that about 2009 or so? I couldn't even be assed to watch Summerslam when it was on my birthday that year it was such a lousy time for the product. Looking back it really took them until about 2011 to shake the whole Benoit hangover.
ReplyDeleteWho cares about that - did you hear that Katy Perry put a picture of herself in a bikini top on Instagram?
ReplyDeleteSPOILER (KIND OF):
ReplyDeleteCena isn't on the list of guys in the title match yet. I guess he's going to RISE ABOVE UNPREDICTABILITY and be the last guy in starting Monday. #CenaWinsLOL
Threadjack: So the lead story on ESPN.com is NOT that the Spurs won in impressive fashion, it's how LeBron deals with losing.
ReplyDelete...wow.
Were you looking at pics of Lita? The viruses she has will go after anything.
ReplyDeleteBecause buffoonery sells.
ReplyDeleteHa, you're asking the wrong guy. I'm old now so everything after 2005 is just a blur to me as I have trouble differentiating what happened in what year.
ReplyDeleteI just re-watched that Dean Ambrose promo from Monday. So good. Even better than the pie James Franco ate in that Spider-Man movie. "So good".
ReplyDeleteI find it hard to believe that die-hard wrestling fans haven't already heard Cornette's repetitive rants ad nauseum by now.
ReplyDelete"Today's crop of mainstream rappers is probably the weakest ever."
ReplyDeleteFTFY.
But then I listen to this:
http://youtu.be/ZCbLzntpi9Y
Seriously, I get amazed when some people on here talk effortlessly at what year something took place. I can do that until about 2002 with wrestling.
ReplyDeleteI mostly enjoyed that he cut a rated R promo on a PG show as a babyface.
ReplyDeleteABSOLUTELY.
ReplyDeleteMost of these guys can speak just fine. But it's the image of the goon or the street thug that sells records to other buffoons. But you get someone like Lil Jon, Lil Wayne, or Master P in a board room and they know how to conduct business and do so extremely well.
Is there a clip of this promo?
ReplyDeleteWatch this:
ReplyDeletehttp://youtu.be/_ASZ6K9cPNk
Looks the same here.
ReplyDeleteYeah I use to pride myself on knowing obscure wrestling stuff, but now that's becoming less of a thing with me now.
ReplyDeleteLooks the same to me.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=exDkCIZHzXg
ReplyDeleteBut the content still sucks.
ReplyDeleteMe too. "No Mercy 2008 was an awesome show, and so was Unforgiven 2006". I'm always asking "how the fuck do they remember this stuff?" Everything from about 2004 until a couple of years ago is a complete blur to me.
ReplyDeleteJust be thankful it's not about Tebow.
ReplyDeleteYep. People still need the visual of a pinfall. Walking out of the cage did absolutely NOTHING for Wyatt.
ReplyDeleteStarted off slow, ended decent enough.
ReplyDeleteHurts my eyes!
ReplyDelete..."In Da Club" is still a pretty great song...
ReplyDeletehttp://i.imgur.com/SBDfWHB.jpg
ReplyDeleteThe first time I heard that 2 Chainz song where he's all "yeah, I'm different" I thought to myself "really? Because you sound exactly like all the other shit that's come out since Autotune became inescapable."
ReplyDeleteBSPN
ReplyDeleteIf the Spurs win they'll show LeBron watching the parade from his living room to get his reaction.
ReplyDeleteLOL wtf
ReplyDeleteIt's probably only for the house show circuit, but I like the idea of main eventers going for secondary titles. Rather than aimlessly doing nothing of note, work a program for the IC or US title. It's one of the things WCW did well.
ReplyDeletepic: http://i.imgur.com/SBDfWHB.jpg
ReplyDeletehere: http://i.imgur.com/SBDfWHB.jpg
ReplyDeletelook at the post right below, dude :)
ReplyDeletethat's what she said
ReplyDelete(to someone else, of course)
Don't go to ESPN, it's that simple.
ReplyDeleteI go there for other sports as well. It's getting through the main page that sucks.
ReplyDeleteOh, I didn't say it wasn't a good song. Just that the fact that he had been shot nine times was considered almost as important as writing a great song by people.
ReplyDeleteCena wins events he's not physically in.
ReplyDeleteLol at Roman like 'Dude, I kinda need that mic'
ReplyDeleteGreat great stuff from Ambrose, going about as far as he can in a PG context. Doesnt touch his "Getting beat up by a drug dealer" promo from years ago, but ti's refreshing to see guys for a change in the company no that can actually deliver a promo that sounds geniune and from the heart and not like it was just handed to them at Gorilla and they repeat it in robot fashion
Yea, he did about as much as he could with keeping in the lines of family friendly. Or something like that
ReplyDeleteIt's 2014 and you're still surprised ESPN is playing favoritism to certain players?
ReplyDeleteI guess they're trying to convey that he came from such a low point to be successful.
ReplyDeleteThis series isnt about Heat vs. Spurs, it's about LeBron and thats it. Didnt hear shit about Bosh nailing the 3 that won them them game 2, it's "Wow what a pass by LeBron".
ReplyDeleteLol just went to it a few minutes ago...ughhhh...
ReplyDeleteI wish a monster 6'8+ 275 lbs + guy would debut in either company and just beat the crap out of everyone and win the title within like two months.
ReplyDeleteI barely remember the match, but I think Pacman might have stayed on the ring apron the entire match
ReplyDeleteYeah, check the LeBron App instead.
ReplyDeleteSee, THAT'S TNA's problem: not enough dancing Negroes.
ReplyDeleteI've always wanted this. How about Cena going for the IC title because it's the only belt he's never won?
ReplyDelete"The goggles, they do NOTHING!!!"
ReplyDeleteI used to hate on 50 cent back in the day but he might as well be Rakim compares to the shit out today.
ReplyDeleteI miss invincible wrestling monsters in WWE. But nowadays you know their win streak will be snapped by an Attitude Adjustment or Pedigree so it's not as much fun.
ReplyDeleteYeah, that and it gave his street thug image authenticity. That image sold him just as much as his music did. "Oh shit, this guy's tough!"
ReplyDelete10 years and $200 million later I think it's fair that "street thug" is not exactly who 50 Cent really is.
Just wait. When the football season starts, it'll be all Manziel, all the time.
ReplyDeleteHogan is RIGHT THERE for that, dude.
ReplyDeleteESPN is trying their hardest to do that, but the Brown limit their media access. Smart move.
ReplyDeleteIt's ESPN. They'll turn the smallest crumb of a story about Manziel into the leading story on SportsCenter, or just have one of their talking heads fill time speaking about "Is Manziel ready for the big time?"
ReplyDeleteIn terms of ESPN, 2014 is divided into "Lebron Season" and "Manziel Season".
Isn't that the point of these specialty matches? Someone wins without getting pinned and it's supposed to keep the loser strong. Because you know getting beaten to a blood pulp and left laying looks way better than being outwrestled.
ReplyDeletehttp://hefferbrew.files.wordpress.com/2013/01/1341171549753.jpg
ReplyDeleteHogan can win the strap then defend against the likes of Rusev, Barrett, and Henry culminating in Hogan bodyslamming the 950 lb. Big Show at WrestleMania XXXI in front of 120,000 at the Silverdome!
ReplyDeleteYou can polish a turd, but it's still a turd.
ReplyDeleteIf the heat had set a record in field goal percentage and won by 19: 46737337373733 heat articles on espn
ReplyDeleteSan Antonio DID set a record in field goal percentage and won by 19: 46737337373733 heat articles anyway
That is why you haven't seen the Big Show. He's packing on another 300 pounds to work with Hogan.
ReplyDeleteIt would be funny if Leonard has a breakout season and becomes a star. They will somehow tie it all back to LeBron.
ReplyDelete"There we go," James said when asked about the turnovers, "it's a new storyline for LeBron."
ReplyDeleteNot at all. I'm surprised at how blatant they've become.
ReplyDeleteFlair is coming back as well. Flair vs. Hogan is right there as well! Honestly, I think Hogan as champion would draw huge ratings as sad as that is.
ReplyDeleteLeonard guarded LeBron, so it was LeBron's inspiration. Isn't it obvious?
ReplyDeleteFunny as it is, The Hardcore title would have been perfect for Hogan because they could work around his physical limitations.
ReplyDeleteOr a Legends division, kind of like the Senior PGA tour. The older guys slowly move towards that.
ReplyDeleteLeBron's sweat and hair follicles landed on Leonard which gave him some of his talent and life energy.
ReplyDeleteBut what if it wasn't?
ReplyDeleteThat is what TNA should have done with the Legend's title. You could only compete for it if you had at least two World title reigns That would have been a nice division.
ReplyDeleteThat's why Durant is so good the start of the year from LeBron and his summer camp. Towards the end of the season, the follicles and powers wear off which is why OKC didn't make the Finals the past two seasons.
ReplyDeleteBut what if it wasn't??
ReplyDeleteSomeone from OKC should sneak into the Heat locker room and steal LeBron's headband or something.
ReplyDeleteIs there an echo in here?
ReplyDeleteRemember when Hogan announced the TV title would be defended every week and it lasted like 3 weeks then he said the X-Division title would be exclusive to triple threats and it lasted around 2 months. What an idiot he was. Same with the Gutcheck and Open Fight Night.
ReplyDeleteThe Big Poochy network.
ReplyDeleteWhat's a TV title?
ReplyDeleteEY said he'd defend the title every Impact too.
<-- Been saying this since before WrestleMania
ReplyDeleteWith a tear in his eye, Leonard says guarding LeBron is what made him so good.
ReplyDeleteAt least they explained that with MVP telling him he'll defend the title when he tells Eric to.
ReplyDeleteThat should have been Brock.
ReplyDeleteThe definition of post count padding.
ReplyDeleteThe definition of post count padding..
ReplyDeleteRemember no one ever beats the Heat....it's just that sometimes Lebron loses.
ReplyDeleteThat's how people are. Instead of reading about everything, people go to the most recognizable thing and repeat it over and over and over again.
ReplyDeleteSame with all news. Obama this, Obama that, Putin this, Putin that, etc.
It'd be nice if LeBron ended up 1-3 vs. Texas.
ReplyDeleteUp next: What did johnny manziel and Michael Sam think of Lebron's lose last night?
ReplyDeleteBrock should have just walked in the ring, grabbed one of the belts and said, "I'm taking this." and left. Then you line up challengers to go get it from him.
ReplyDeleteIIRC, he sprayed one of the other guy's in the face with spraypaint and Killings pinned him.
ReplyDeleteJohn Cena is the last wrestler on earth that needs to be protected. He can certainly afford to eat a pinfall.
ReplyDeleteI'd pay for that.
ReplyDeleteNot having Brock as champion is money left on the table.
ReplyDeleteReally? First time I'm hearing it. You should speak up more.
ReplyDeleteYea. Sayin hall is the worker of the bunch seems odd but he was and in wwf he was very good for his size imo. Another example is the triple threat in ecw. Douglas was mouthpiece bigalow was muscle and candido was the worker. Maybe its just me but it seems like most trios had this in common. Except for the brood they were different in more ways than one
ReplyDeleteAgreed. He should've destroyed AND beat Cena. But then he lost to Cena, which killed a lot of his heat. And then he lost to HHH. Twice, wasn't it? They met three times and he lost twice, I think?
ReplyDeleteCool! I'd love to see more Hacksaw Jim Duggan matches!
ReplyDeleteIt makes me more sad that they did the Seth turn. The three just worked so well as a unit.
ReplyDeleteOnce.
ReplyDelete*As of today, MVP is still planning on wrestling at Slammiversary. In his interview with Talk is Jericho, MVP stated that TNA is working on a back-up plan just in case MVP couldn't go. MVP was scheduled to have an MRI but his doctor's determined that it could wait until after he tested things out in the ring.
ReplyDeleteIs TNA really THIS stupid? MVP vs. Eric Young for the TNA title on FREE TV on Spike drew a 0.65 which was one of their worst quarters in HISTORY and they think that people will actually shell out $35 (while the WWE Network is $9.99) for this crap? Come the fuck on. Just make a King of the Mountain match with Young vs. MVP vs. Aries vs. Joe vs. Roode and have Roode win the title and get things back on track. Fans hate the stupid authority MVP gimmick as the ratings are showing, so why not adjust?
Oh he still tries.
ReplyDeleteBut we need to know if Stephen A and Skip think Manziel is going to the hall of fame!
ReplyDeleteAt Mania. So that is all that matters.
ReplyDeleteThe internetz would explode if that happened.
ReplyDeleteI've become a mark for lesnar since he beat the streak. HE IS UNSTOPPABLE
ReplyDeleteRAW is 3 hours. They could easily fit a legends bout in each week.
ReplyDeleteThey're asking why he's not there already.
ReplyDeleteESPN doesn't leave money on the table. jk jk jk
ReplyDeleteOn the other hand, ESPN does take chances...remember all of those ESPN films they made for like a year? One of them was Dale Earnhart.
Grantland was certainly a chance, although depending on how one looks at it, Grantland is now part of the problem.
PTI at the time was a radical item, along with Around the Horn.
Just wait until ESPN launches the Ocho.
But....changing the match at the last second could sway 10s of buyers
ReplyDeleteYou want Hogan to be champ?
ReplyDeleteI know he hasn't played yet but..come on..he's Elite right?
ReplyDeleteTNA's PPV fanbase is the same 10,000 or so fans that will order no matter what. Why not offer an intriguing main event to draw in new fans?
ReplyDeleteOK...I LOL'ed.
ReplyDeleteGrantland is done.
ReplyDeleteNot sure if that'll work or not. LeBron lost his headband last year, and it was the rallying cry the Heat needed.
ReplyDeleteI know. Once the Cena Era began, all of the years kind of meld together.
ReplyDeleteWhy in the hell are we on opposite sides on BoD RAW?
ReplyDeleteOh right, Bayless. ;)
I bet a lot of rappers can but they just speak that way because they're in "character".
ReplyDeleteHow long has tna been running an evil authority angle?
ReplyDeleteYep. They've mailed Superbowl trophiy and ring to his house alr...
ReplyDeleteLMAO @ that thought. It would mean the Browns would have to make the playoffs, let alone a championship.
12 years.
ReplyDeleteHe can't even throw a baseball!
ReplyDeleteBecause the sweat from it landed on his team mates and recharged their health meters.
ReplyDeleteI LOVED hip hop/rap as a kid but once every rapper started talking about their money and bitches ALL THE TIME, I grew up.
ReplyDeleteYou know it's going to happen eventually. One last terrible title reign.
ReplyDeleteThat's equal to like 2-5 wins, anyway.
ReplyDeleteI'm gonna say it: FUCK THE MIDNIGHT EXPRESS!
ReplyDeleteGreat tag team, yes...but who gives a fuck in 2014?!
I do seriously wonder how huge LeBron's headband is going to get as he ages. It's already huge. And he has made fun of it himself.
ReplyDeleteknowing the Browns Manziel will start to play well and then they will sign Tebow as his back up and there will be a QB controversy.
ReplyDeleteListen to the link I posted below.
ReplyDeleteI loved how they mentioned how he was friends with LeBron on ESPN.
ReplyDeleteFans chant his name just as much as "Yes". Because he's awesome.
ReplyDeleteTJ, because I'm not digging through the Raw thread for it:
ReplyDeleteHas anyone ever seen a tornado suplex like Barrett did to Sheamus, where he went through the motion for a tornado DDT from the turnbuckle but went into the vertical suplex instead? That's one I can't recall having seen before, and the few buddies I have who are hardcore fans/uber-smarks couldn't remember seeing it, either.
30 for 30 and grantland are good but they are terrible other wise. They are losing money and cutting staff too but who knows if they will change. Standard news is going through all the same money loses and such but they don't change their tired old transparent formula either.
ReplyDelete
