I thought of hopping on here and pimping tonight's PPV, Night 2 of the G1 tournament. To be honest though, it's probably the weakest card of the tournament, so instead I figured I'd share the match from yesterday that many have called the greatest singles match of AJ Styles' career. For my money, the only thing keeping this from the full monty is the ref-bump/run-in business, and even then the crowd was so into that. A must see for "wrestling" fans. Others may prefer the Stephanie/Brie Bella angle, I don't know. Takes all kinds I suppose..

ReplyDeleteWhatever, it's all fake fighting, isn't it?
That is nowhere near his best match. It's 4 stars, maybe. The 3-way with Joe and Daniels was way better.
ReplyDeletelol'd hard at the guys user name on YT
ReplyDeleteSINGLES match.
ReplyDeleteThat said it is nowhere near his best singles match. His match vs. Joe in TNA back in 2005 was better.
I don't even think it's in his top 5 SINGLES matches ;)
ReplyDeleteYeah that comment bothered me. For one it's not fair to compare the two, and second the whole Brie/Steph thing was (IMO) really well done. You don't like SE stuff? Fine. Just don't insult people who do.
ReplyDeleteOne of them, yes.
ReplyDeleteWatching In Your House 1.. I think this might be the high point of Vince's "HE/THEY GOT HIM!..oh no he didn't" Every damn near fall.
ReplyDeleteI'm down with that.
ReplyDeleteNo Styles' best match,it wasn't even the best match of the night,Makabe/Goto was.
ReplyDelete**** match, the second of two that night. A very good match on a pretty good but not great show.
ReplyDeleteWhy do you have to be so condescending? Puro snobs are so 2004
ReplyDeleteYANO Vs STYLES tonight LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL "Can't Wait"... Night 2 last year gave us Ishii/Tanahashi. Tonight we get Styles/Yano.
ReplyDeleteWoah, lets not over react.
ReplyDeleteCole is damn good. Did you see the head shaving angle he did with Elgin
lol at best match of Styles career. ****, maybe ****1/4, but I'll be surprised if either one of them gets to the end of the G1 without having a better match than that.
ReplyDeleteThe little switch into tombstone piledriver near the end is a thing of beauty. What's with the ref bump, though?
ReplyDelete"Others may prefer the Stephanie/Brie Bella angle, I don't know."
ReplyDeleteThe beating you gave that straw man was quite impressive. 4/10 for lack of selling on the part of the straw man.
How to kill morale #60: Spending millions to sue a guy that was full within his right to leave during a "budget cut".
ReplyDeleteThe Daniels Ironman match is fantastic too. Those 3 were just on fire that year.
ReplyDeleteWhile it was nice to look at, Styles got right up from it. It lessened the impact of something that should have been devastating.
ReplyDeleteThe run ins got the Bullet Club over as heels. Its not passe there like here.
ReplyDeleteAll the matches from Day 1 in a playlist here (for now)

I can actually get behind Henry/Big E, or Titus/Henry, or Henry/Titus as a powerhouse tag team.
ReplyDeleteAlso, not to pile on, but if you sneer at sports entertainment, what do you make of stuff like Suzuki-gun, or the timesplitters coming out in a delorean, or captain new japan, or Nakamura dancing around like Michael Jackson during his matches, or banknotes with Okada's face on them dropping from the ceiling during his entrance, or....(do you see the point I'm making)
ReplyDelete+1
ReplyDeleteYeah, I loved Styles' matches with Angle and the LMS with Daniels over this. Great stuff though.
ReplyDeleteYep, literally my least favorite Internet fans back in the day.
ReplyDeleteI think his LMS with Daniels from ... 2012? ... was even better.
ReplyDeleteAlso pick one of the Angle matches out of a hat. AJ also had a killer, killer singles match against Bully Ray of all people in early 2012.
Yeah, I noticed that. The Nakamura/Shibata match was killed for me because neither sold a german suplex.
ReplyDeleteDoes that mean there a way more ref bumps in order to facilitate run-ins. Because that would get old fast.
ReplyDeleteThey should have done this with JTG. Like every so often you see him backstage with a "I Don't Even Know What My Job Is Anymore" shirt holding his plate of hor d'ouvres.

ReplyDelete"It's a miracle!"
He's good. Crowd gets behind him great and he uses the fact that Cole ditched him once he got the World Title and then joined Young Bucks and Steen as momentum
ReplyDeleteHe's been my favorite heel in wrestling the last year
ReplyDeleteNot true, it's owned by Universal.
ReplyDeleteHow they've managed to keep the license without doing anything with it for this long is the real mystery.
Heh. Unless it's a three hour long movie, I think at the rate they're dumping characters into it, BvS is going to end up like the "gimmick battle royal" of superhero movies. Hey look! It's Cyborg! There goes Cyborg! Hey look! It's Wonder Woman....there she goes! Hey, Batman is brooding....and look! it's Flash! ect.
ReplyDeleteThe Incredible HERCULES would be all sorts of awesome.
ReplyDeleteNot sure if serious, but I find her incredibly sexy. She's comfortable with her body, and that is something I find very attractive.
ReplyDeleteId love it if they just added him to the Avengers movies down the line
ReplyDeleteMedusa should have done a run in and dumped social media all over HHH's head
ReplyDeletejust dont let Frankie the Squealer or Jimmy the Snitch get involved.
ReplyDeleteThat is sacrilege.
ReplyDeleteWatchmen the book is awesome.
