Good match but I just have a hard time watching Benoit matches. Especially when they're in the main event because for me personally, it's even weirder when his matches close the show.
I and a lot of people shit on it at the time. Much like the show this weekend all the up and comers job to the established talent. Now looking back the match quality is very good and knowing the people involved did eventually get over makes it better..the jobbing of angle to Taker here is still pretty bad though.
Yep. I agree. I think it would've been an interesting thing if Angle, Benoit, and Jericho went over. They could've still done Summerslam 2000, just with Benoit vs. Jericho 2/3 falls as the WWF title match and Triple H/Rock/Angle would've been non-title. Or of course, they could've just had Benoit drop the belt back to Rock the next night on RAW instead of reversing the decision and continuing the match to close Fully Loaded.
Its funny to I mean what is the worst that could happen. Vince has some guys on top that are stale but will always be believable on top. Cena, Orton, HHH, these are guys you can always plug into the main event...so what is the worst that could happen if you put a Bray over any of them and then he flames out?
Benoit headlining a ppv was huge enough. The loss didn't hurt him either, they had him in the 4-way title match in Sept, and was pretty much upper-mid card until SD2002 when he became main event level
I know most like Taker now, but man was he a black hole of no-selling, burying everything near him, suck around 2000. Since that was the main era I watched, I'll always irrationally hate Taker.
It wasn't irrational, Taker was shit until 05ish. He'd have a great match here and there, but there was lots of making the younger talent look foolish, burying ex-WCW guys 12ft deep, and cranky old-man "GIT OFFF MA YARD" nonesense
Rock vs Benoit vs HHH vs Y2J could have headlined Summerslam after these great performances at Fully Loaded. With Angle getting his win back in a rematch where he breaks Takers ankle and removes him from 2000 wwf tv again
agree with everything said here. He has done an amazing reputation rehabilitation as he was just terrible matches and not selling anything for anybody...especially if you were an up and comer or WCW guy.
established WCW guys too. He had DDP jobbing to his wife, and I remember him having a ppv match with Booker T, where Booker got squashed, save for a 10 punch count.
The match was very good, the angle earlier in the show where Shane lures Rock out to the ring so Benoit can sneak into his locker and destroy his hideous shirts was lame.
BENOIT FOR HALL OF FAME!
ReplyDeleteSuch a great show overall.
ReplyDeleteGood match but I just have a hard time watching Benoit matches. Especially when they're in the main event because for me personally, it's even weirder when his matches close the show.
ReplyDeleteYUP. Eddie-Saturn was fine, Rikishi-Val was good, Rock-Benoit was awesome, HHH-Jericho was incredible.
ReplyDeleteI hear you, his matches always left me hangin.
ReplyDeleteI just try to differentiate Benoit the wrestler and the Benoit that committed the horrible act.
ReplyDeleteChris Ben-who?
ReplyDeleteAngle should've beaten Undertaker!

ReplyDeleteI remember REALLY wanting Benoit to take the title here. Benoit was my guy and in 2000, I just wasn't with the Rock.

ReplyDeleteWell at least Vince learned and doesn't have a problem putting the young hot talented wrestlers over any more.
ReplyDeleteJericho and Angle should've gone over. Not Rock
ReplyDeleteAmazing how much things don't change.
ReplyDeleteRock did go over....
ReplyDeleteYea, I'm saying Rock winning was the right call
ReplyDeleteHardyz & Lita vs Test/Albert/Trish was also really good
ReplyDeleteI agree, I'm just saying it would've been interesting if he lost.

ReplyDeleteThe title had changed at the last three PPVs. It was too much plus Benoit wasn't ready
ReplyDeleteI'd have settled for Angle getting taker to sell ....anything in that match.
ReplyDeleteBenoit headlining a ppv was huge enough. The loss didn't hurt him either, they had him in the 4-way title match in Sept, and was pretty much upper-mid card until SD2002 when he became main event level
ReplyDeleteObligatory "they were supposed to tap out!" joke followed by a flame war over what is or isn't bad taste and/or crossimg the boundaries of humor?
ReplyDeleteI get a little choked up.
ReplyDeleteWell at least Benoit could carry his own weight.
ReplyDeleteI know most like Taker now, but man was he a black hole of no-selling, burying everything near him, suck around 2000. Since that was the main era I watched, I'll always irrationally hate Taker.
ReplyDeleteRock always did a great job of making Benoit look legit in main events, contrasted with Taker no selling and beating Angle on the same show
ReplyDeleteIt wasn't irrational, Taker was shit until 05ish. He'd have a great match here and there, but there was lots of making the younger talent look foolish, burying ex-WCW guys 12ft deep, and cranky old-man "GIT OFFF MA YARD" nonesense

ReplyDeleteHunter took his asprin at this show for sure. And of course the match here is just a great main event. Well done WWE 2000
ReplyDeleteagree with everything said here. He has done an amazing reputation rehabilitation as he was just terrible matches and not selling anything for anybody...especially if you were an up and comer or WCW guy.
ReplyDeleteBikerTaker was awful. Sure there were some great matches but I hated the character.

ReplyDeleteYep, we're all going to hell.
