Bully Ray Back to TNA?
According to Mike Johnson of PWInsider.com, sources close to Bully Ray have told him that he is close to signing a two-date deal that would allow him to finish up the tag team series and to be at Bound for Glory on 10/12, which is also the last contracted date that Devon has with the company.

All I know is, as is customary in 4 out of every 5 times he leaves, Orton will have had something to do with it.
ReplyDeleteI have a feeling the run went exactly as Jericho envisioned. He isn't coming back unless it on his terms.
ReplyDeleteOr, maybe he just really likes wrestling, doesn't mind putting people over and enjoys being able to come back for a few weeks/months here and there without having to stick around long-term. I know you were trying to be condescending and all, calling his band a "cover band" and all that, I just don't think it's right to tell someone they should retire if someone's still willing to give them money to do what they love doing.
ReplyDeleteThere's a difference between saying "I no longer want to see this" and "you should retire."
Y2J & RVD both should consider hanging it up, they can still go but it's clear the WWE doesn't acknowledge them as being anything worth investing in anymore.
ReplyDeleteIt's just hurting their legacy and is making them look like just a couple more old timers who can't let go ala Mick Foley,Ric Flair etc etc.
I don't think his band has been a cover band for 10 years, bro
ReplyDeleteSo what would you guys like to see Jericho's last run be? IS there anyone he should have a Mania send off match with?
ReplyDeleteI wonder if wrestlers care more about the money then some legacy
ReplyDeleteI'm sure some do, and both those guys fit that mold..RVD more than Jericho.
ReplyDeleteFandango II
ReplyDeleteSmell the subscriptions!
I never got the "hurting their legacy" thing. First of all, it's an entirely arbitrary concept. Second, does sticking around and being able to do it- even at a reduced level- for longer than most somehow undo the things they did in their prime? His great matches and promos from the late 90's and early 00's still happened. Ric Flair, as you mentioned, stuck around longer than anyone and is still acknowledged by many, if not most, as the best ever. Foley's reputation similarly doesn't seem to have been damaged.
ReplyDeleteI'd hope most do. Legacy is bullshit. It's just an inherently flawed narrative that fans want to ascribe to a performer/career. Getting paid is real.
ReplyDeleteOh everyone loves money, but when you can retire in your 40's and still live a life of luxury, why keep coming back when people care less and less each time?
ReplyDeleteSacrifice him to Lesnar!
ReplyDeleteWhy should they stop? WWE keeps paying them, and neither really cares about being a "top guy."
ReplyDeleteLegacy is overrated in wrestling because it's not a real sport. You have to be a total mark for yourself like Bret Hart if you care about your "legacy" so passionately. Jericho could lose to Fandango a hundred times and it doesn't change the fact that he was one of the best wrestlers in the world in the 1990s and early 2000s.
I'd say Jericho and RVD have a much, much healthier outlook on the business than a guy like Flair -- they enjoy it and make money for a few months, then rest up. They also have healthier bank accounts than Flair.
Just wait until Vince Jordan gets here and the attacks commence.
ReplyDeleteBecause....money
ReplyDeleteI don't know, because he wants to and the biggest company in the world is willing to pay him to do it on his own schedule? Seems like sufficient reason to me.
ReplyDeleteMick Foley could come out on Raw next monday and get less of a reaction than Adam Rose.
ReplyDeleteThat's gotta hurt when you used to be a genuine main event talent who drew millions.
This might not be the most popular option but I respect Jericho and anyone else who can take a little bit of the power back to the worker in that company and not be someone who grinds them self down to a numb for Vince. Anyone who has the power to tell Vince..yea I'll come back for 3, or 6 or whatever months but then I'm gone again, more power to them.
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to Jericho's book as he'll probably talk about the Shawn Michaels feud. Also looking forward to skipping Fozzy chapters like I did with his last book.
ReplyDeleteAmen to that. It's not like baseball or football where being a top guy/Hall of Fame means you can charge an extra $50 for autographs and get thousands more to do endorsements.
ReplyDeleteThese are pro wrestlers. In their 50s and 60s they'll do the autograph shows, a handful of indie dates, get a Hall of Fame payday, and will be trotted out as "WWE Legends" whenever guys like Volkoff and Slaughter die and WWE needs people for wacky backstage skits on RAW anniversary shows. All of this will happen regardless of how many times Jericho or RVD will lose to crappy wrestlers over their recent and future runs.
Bills, bro
ReplyDeleteI was at Riot fest this week and I saw Volkoff, Valentine, and The Nasty Boys doing an autograph signing. HOLY SHIT, I know this sounds bad but Nikolai seriously looks like he's the at the end of his run with life. He looks 80 no lie.
ReplyDeleteI saw and met Sabu as well. He wrestled a match against some real big fat guy and cut him up and put him through a table. Legacies don't mean shit in professional wrestling.
I suppose it's possible inasmuch as anything is possible, so sure, it "could" happen. But I don't know of any existing evidence that suggests such a thing would be likely. Foley still gets pretty good reactions when he's come out in recent years. As big as he did 15 years ago? Of course not. Even Rock, who's wrestled in two of the last three WrestleMania main events, doesn't get quite the reaction he did 15 years ago.
ReplyDeleteFlair: Yeah, color me not surprised. He's definitely at the age where that becomes more and more common.
ReplyDeleteJericho: Hey, as long as he's happy with his role, it's his choice. It' just sad to see what rub he could have given wasted on bad writing/booking and wrestlers who don't need it or won't be able to use it.
Bully: TNA, fucking up contracts since... 2002?
Mick Foley has main evented anything in almost 15 years though. He can't expect to world to never forget about him.
ReplyDeleteThe last few times i've seen him on WWE TV, his reactions were absolutely pitiful as in i actually pitied the poor guy.
ReplyDeleteAside from the cheap hometown pop, it seemed a good quarter of the crowd genuinely had no clue who this homeless looking person even was.
WWE RULZ!!!!!
ReplyDeletebut seriously, I did make 1 comment in the Raw recap that might sort of, kind of be leaning towards sort of Anti WWE. It's not much, but take what you can get. :)
Volkoff was recently on Backstage Pass in a skit with Rusev and Lana. He looks like Rusev's great, great, great grandfather: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8WobMoezcP8
ReplyDeleteThere's no denying that Jericho and RVD doing 3 month runs with WWE in between their non-wrestling projects puts them in a much better place than where Sabu is now.
Did it have to do with them senselessly giving away Reigns/Rollins for free 6 days before NOC?
ReplyDeleteOur TVs must air different programming.
ReplyDeleteI think he's happy with these runs. He's basically "living the life" on his own terms right now, I think he just missed the road, hanging out with the boys, and wrestling in front of the crowds, but he likes that it doesn't engulf his whole life.
ReplyDeletePlus he's one of the few veterans who isn't a mark for himself, and understands that his time as a top guy is up, so he has no problem putting others over.
Actually, yes!
ReplyDeleteThis should be his last run.
ReplyDeleteYeah, didn't get that decision. Also, think it made Ambrose look pretty weak to have Reigns do so quickly what Ambrose hasn't been able to.
ReplyDeleteNo the last one before this should of been his last run.
ReplyDeleteShit, no. The one BEFORE that should have been his last run.
ReplyDeletePeople who are passionate about their craft have egos and are aware of how they are perceived by the next generation of people coming in, regardless of what profession they are in. It's great that Jericho and RVD are mellow about it, but that makes them the exception, not the rule.
ReplyDeleteI have mixed feeling about the guy. It's a love hate kind of deal.
ReplyDeleteI'll be the first to admit that my deep and profound hatred of Ben Franklin has a lot to do with jealousy. Everyone loves and respects Ben Franklin. Know how many people revere me? You could count them all on one hand. Heck ,Mordecai "Three finger" Brown could count them on one hand and still have enough fingers left over to flash you the peace sign and poke Bill Wambsganss in the eye.
And there Franklin is staring at me, mocking me from every hundred dollar bill.
I even have recurring dreams where I'm in this fight club deal with Ben Franklin. Which I wouldn't mind if I won some of the time. I may not be the toughest guy in the world, but surely I can beat up a 300 year old man who had the gout. I know my dreams are just products of my subconscious , but you think my subconscious would be on my side. I'm the one that feeds it.
And so much of it is unfair - It's hard for me to compete with him since he was born so long before I was. I can't very well be a founding father now. If there was another revolution I'd kiss up to the new leaders and try to be considered one of the new founding fathers, but I can't very well overthrow the government on my own. I don't even know where the government is at. I know where the post office and the department of motor vehicles are, but that's it. There has to be more to it than that.
And I can't even lie and take credit for his stuff. Do you know how drunk a girl has to get before you can convince her that you discovered electricity? Maybe if I was born first I would have invented bifocals. Maybe I would have invented a wood stove. I wouldn't have called it the "Franklin Stove" , that's for sure. I'd call it "The King George Stove" just to piss off Ben. Or maybe the "Cook-O-matic 1900", which would have seemed very futuristic to everyone back then.
A couple of years ago I even put out my own almanac to compete with " Poor Richard's Almanac" the one that bastard Franklin put out. It was a flop and got unfavorable reviews, but where is it said that an almanac CANT have "Sabrina The Teenage Witch" erotic fan fiction?! That's what I want to know!!
I can’t believe they gave HIM the big Dixie payoff moment,
ReplyDeleteand now he might be leaving. TNA.
Flair definitely hurt his legacy. When
ReplyDeleteStone Cold, Hogan and Rock were in the ring at Wrestlemania, they were clearly
the biggest 3 names. To me, Flair was no longer on their level at all and would’ve
looked completely out of place. He never protected himself the way he should’ve.
Not winning the Royal Rumble and the terrible booking in the Punk feud killed Jericho dead as a main eventer. He also has maintained much of a main event look either.
ReplyDeleteBut in pro wrestling, who cares if the next generation thinks RVD and Jericho are schmucks? It wouldn't effect Jericho or RVD's well-being one bit. They probably wouldn't anyway considering they were top guys in the 1990s and early 2000s, but does it really matter?
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, the most important thing Jericho and RVD can do as 43 year old guys is to make sure they maintain a good relationship with WWE so in the future they can get the few-times-a-year paydays guys like Booker T or Sgt. Slaughter get. That's the best possible "retirement package" they can get out of WWE.
So your argument for Flair having hurt his legacy is how you think a non-wrestling segment in 2014 that he didn't take part in would have gone if he did take part in it?
ReplyDeleteBecause that's a weird argument.
Amazingly well played, sir.
ReplyDeleteI've NEVER seen Flair on that level.
ReplyDeleteNothing to do with the update, but I'm surprised they didn't give Dallas an Indian gimmick. I know he's not one, but he looks like he is
ReplyDeleteLol Undisputed was a quick read because I did the same thing.
ReplyDeleteThis.
ReplyDeleteIt was WrestleMania. Flair isn't a WWF/WrestleMania legend like Hogan, Rock and Austin are. He's not considered the greatest ever because of his huge WWF stardom or "WrestleMania moments," and the fact that the WWE has done as much as they have with him speaks to what his "legacy" actually is, if you care about that stuff. Because they'd have had every reason to never really do anything with him post-2001 if they were so inclined.
Wouldn't it have been wise for Jericho to stick around and plug the book than disappear a couple of weeks before release?
ReplyDeleteBut he breaks stuff in hotels because he's a rock star, dammit!!!
ReplyDeleteWhen did you start watching?
ReplyDeleteHopefully he stops saying "froot" so much.
ReplyDeleteHe actually looked better than I expected, after what I just read. I remember him being old in 1994, so I guess he's sort of aged normally.
ReplyDeleteHis last match should be Lesnar squashing him.
ReplyDeleteJerichos book will be awesome. I'll be for sure buying it as it will cover the best part of his career. I don't think Undisputed covered his 07-10 run IIRC
ReplyDeleteBetter than the Iron Sheik.
ReplyDeleteI think both of his send-off matches are dead (Benoit and Eddie).
ReplyDeleteI will defend to the death that Jericho not winning the rumble didn't affect things one bit, and the booking with Punk/Jericho wasn't terrible at all. I don't get the hate, other than "We had this unrealistic vision that Jericho would win the Rumble without touching anyone, and anything else SUCKS".
ReplyDeleteAround '84. Mostly a WWF guy so that's my bias but I really haven't seen Flair as an icon like Hogan, Austin and Rock. And I'm not a Flair hater as I love some of his promos and moments (Royal Rumble '91 is a favourite) but he, like the commenter noted, hasn't protected his legacy well at all.
ReplyDeleteHis match retirement match with Shawn was a pretty huge wrestlemania moment in my opinion.
ReplyDeleteSame but I'm not big on 80s wrestling.
ReplyDeleteOne of the things about Flair is that the formula for his matches in NWA never translated well in the WWF.
ReplyDeleteThat match was a testament of HBK being able to carry anyone to a good match because Flair was beyond shot at that point.
ReplyDeleteThat would be a weird argument. No, I was saying, or trying to, that there was a day when I would've seen Flair at that ultra top level of guys, and now I don't. And it hit home watching that segment.
ReplyDeleteOne of my favorite parts of that match was Flair's entrance. In the midst of all the other guys having very complex and innovative pyro, Flair had the old school, traditional 80's type fireworks. Fit him perfectly.
ReplyDeleteThe other is mostly retired and not a big name (Lance Storm). It would be really appropriate for Jericho to get completely squashed by Triple H in his final match, however.
ReplyDeleteIt would never happen, but I would love Jericho's final match to be Jericho pinning Goldberg after interference from Ralphus (if he's even still alive) and the Jericholic Ninja.
WWE also doesn't trust Flair with a live mic anymore. He'd come out with Rock, Austin, and Hogan and either start crying or tell a long-winded road story that has nothing to do with the script.
ReplyDeleteOr probably both.
Yep. I said last night that if this were the 80s, he'd be one of the Youngbloods.
ReplyDeleteHe could write a song. BO DALLAS!! BO-FFALO!!! BO DALLAS!! BO-FFALO!!
ReplyDelete..dozens.
ReplyDeleteHe has that annoying smile that ADR has. I would have paired then together.
ReplyDeleteJericho should've won the Rumble, but ultimately I agree, it didn't matter much. That's just the reality of having two titles. One of the two challengers isn't going to be the Rumble winner. (Which is why the unification probably should have happened long before it did, but that's an entirely separate issue.) Should've won, might've made it a bigger deal, but oh well. And while I hate fantasy booking, Jericho winning the Rumble by just showing up at 30 when everyone else was already eliminated would have been awesome.
ReplyDeleteBut the booking leading up to WrestleMania should have been entirely about being the best in the world and saved the "your dad is a drunk and your sister is on drugs" stuff for the grudge match street fight at Extreme Rules.
That said, the booking for both Rock/Cena and HHH/Taker were both, to large extents, old-school mano a mano storylines that were purely about who the better fighter was, so I understand why they felt they needed to spice that up even if I don't really agree with it.
Agreed. The three biggest stars in WWE history in the "WrestleMania era" are Hogan, Austin, and Rock. Flair doesn't belong in that conversation because much of his history, as great as it was, belongs to another company.
ReplyDeleteFlair? Big star, but not a "WrestleMania star".
Hart and Michaels? Big stars, but not on the Hogan/Austin/Rock level
Sammartino? Huge star, but pre-WrestleMania.
There should've been nobody else in the ring except those three guys. Even if WWE tried to put Cena in there the segment would've nosedived.
I just realized...Stinko Malenko is still around!
ReplyDeleteDean Machino
Stinko Malenko
That'd be a good way to go out. He's talking shit about stuff and such, picks on a few crew members, and throw one of them into Dean. Dean has the "I'm going to fucking kill you look". They wrestler a quick 10 minute match, Jericho is dominant and arrogant, uses his arrogant cover, Dean rolls him into a Cloverleaf for the finish.
That weed ain't gonna pay for itself.
ReplyDeleteToo bad no one in the WWE would know them as a team, but I wouldn't be mad at a Thrillseekers reunion with Lance Storm.
ReplyDeleteSame way I skip all Fozzy-related stuff on his podcast. Sorry Chris, but your band doesn't do it for me at all.
ReplyDeleteIt didn't. It stopped at his return against Orton. Didn't get into the heel turn or the feud with HBK.
ReplyDeleteLooking back, making Lance Storm a "Thrillseeker" almost sounds like a big rib, doesn't it?
ReplyDeleteRumble 91 was a great moment for Flair? How?
ReplyDeleteNot a bad idea!
ReplyDeleteWhatever is Jericho's match, there better be a plant in the crowd though to yell "Go back to Toronto!" so Jericho can shout back "I'm from Winnipeg, you idiot!"
Of course it doesn't matter if they did. That's not the point, which is that a lot of people are hard-wired to care about their legacy in whatever they did in life, especially if it was their singular focus above everything else for decades, including family. And if you're Hart or Flair and you were on top making millions of dollars, how people will remember you becomes even more important. It's all they have left to hang their hats on.
ReplyDeleteI agree with your overall sentiment, but I'm trying to explain why I think most wrestlers get caught up in how they are remembered. Jericho and RVD love wrestling, but they also love that wrestling gave them the ability to do other things. Other old-timers aren't that diverse.
Also, this is long and rambling, especially since you were responding to Snrub's comment about how he perceives their legacy. Really, I just wanted a discussion on how wrestlers cling on more than any other athletes.
"Our TVs must air different programming, because I have no recollection of Foley coming out to crickets like you're suggesting."
ReplyDeleteApparently my TV airs differently than yours too. I've seen that as well. Maybe not *literally* crickets but almost no reaction.
Well not all reactions can match the insanity level of the Cena/Orton 2011 Royal Rumble staredown.
ReplyDeleteBonus points if he busts out his old "1004" wrestling tights.
ReplyDeleteFor the stage in which that segment occurred, there was never a time in which Flair would be the equal of Hulk Hogan, Steve Austin or The Rock. In that company, on that stage, he isn't within shouting distance of them.
ReplyDeleteDespite all that, I believe that if he'd shown up for that bit that he would've fit right in, because the crowd still loves and goes along with his crazy old man gibberish because he's Ric goddamn Flair. To me, this silly hypothetical supports Flair's "legacy" (again: at least I think, but I'm probably not the right person to ask because I try not to traffic in silly, bromide-laced things like "legacy").
As I said last night, if the WWE wants to keep pushing Big Show, Mark Henry (who I like), RVD, and Jericho, they should just create a "Legends Division" (since they wouldn't actually name it the Seniors Division) and have guys fight for a title there. Get rid of the US belt and make that a new title.
ReplyDeleteI'd argue that ANY athlete "clings" to his legacy, just that almost any other sport removes the athlete from the game long before pro wrestling does. Usually.
ReplyDeleteOkely dokely.
ReplyDeleteThat is what TNA should have done with the Legends title.
ReplyDeleteHe was making a big return after a year and a half hiatus, they built up his return with vignettes, he was going to be in arguably the 2nd or 3rd most important match on the biggest show of the year...him winning the Rumble was justified.
ReplyDeleteThen he lost at the Rumble and Elimination Chamber after stating this would be the end of the world as we knew it. The main challenger for the belt at Mania couldn't back up his word. And then he wins a lackluster battle royal on Raw, I believe. By the time Mania came, he wasn't a viable threat.
That is a cool idea and something they should definitely explore. Instead of age they can say "Guys with XXX years in the business are eligible".
ReplyDelete"I just wanted a discussion on how wrestlers cling on more than any other athletes."
ReplyDeleteHonestly, it really depends on the wrestler. They are a fair number of guys who wrestled in the 1980s and 1990s, left, and never looked back. They're not all doing the Randy the Ram thing down at the local American Legion hall.
I think because so many wrestlers these days have been checking out of the business earlier or have diversified their careers that we'll see less and less of this as years go by. As WWE.com's Where Are They Now feature demonstrates, there are a LOT of guys who have gone on to do stuff completely unrelated to wrestling.
Sorry, I meant Rumble '92.
ReplyDeleteOh, for fuck's sake, you know what he meant.
ReplyDeleteExcept Triple H would announce it as "Guys with XXXX years in THIS BUSINESS are eligible."
ReplyDeleteI’m not sure what the “silly hypothetical” is. To repeat, there
ReplyDeletewas a time when I saw Flair on the same level as Hogan, Rock and Austin. I
watched a segment with Hogan, Rock and Austin, saw what huge stars they all
came across as, and realised I no longer saw Flair on that level. Then I wrote
it as a comment. I’m not trying to prove anything, I’m just stating my feelings
towards Flair. Chill.
That's not going to happen. Vince McMahon likes the way Jericho's legs look.
ReplyDelete"Really, I just wanted a discussion on how wrestlers cling on more than any other athletes."
ReplyDeleteI mean...yeah, as far as hanging around to still do it? Yeah. Athletes hang on in different ways past their playing days being over, but their playing days almost always end because someone tells them it's over and then no one else wants them. Wrestlers can keep performing as much as several decades past their prime because it's not, y'know....real.
"XXX years and a minimum XXX title reigns."
ReplyDeleteMaybe he was banging a hot chic while watching it in his Penthouse hotel room.
ReplyDeleteBecause it's much easier for a wrestler to get back into it than a real athlete.
ReplyDeleteLook at it like this: It is easier for an out of shape Jericho to go back to the WWE than it would be for Allen Iverson to go back to the NBA or Terrell Owens in to go back to the NFL.
heres the thing, jerichos last book was great when it was about wrestling but everytime it went to fozzy i skimmed through it or skipped to the next chapter bc it was boring and i have no interest in his fozzy career. This book is gonna probably be 2/3 rds fozzy. would you still get it? or you think i should still get it bc i loved the wrestling content??
ReplyDeletePerfect. I'll be picking that up the first day it comes out. Speaking of which, when does it come out?
ReplyDeleteTotally agree. It's a "WrestleMania moment." I'd even throw in another category of guys who were huge to WrestleMania just off the sheer volume of awesome stuff they did at the show (Shawn and Taker) but just aren't that level of star. No one else should have been in that ring.
ReplyDelete"Wrestlers can keep performing as much as several decades past their prime because it's not, y'know....real."
ReplyDeleteGood point. I mean, you'll see some ex-MLB guys playing for the independent minor leagues or Japan, ex-NFL guys playing Arena Football, or ex-NBA guys playing in Europe, but there's no longer a barnstorming circuit where former pro athletes can still play well into middle age. In fact, wrestlers kind of have an advantage that they can still compete at 50 for a few hundred bucks every weekend. Once a guy gets turfed out of the NFL, he's not coming back even if he's 26.
Plus pro athletes these days make SO much money that if they invest wisely, get get endorsements, and do the odd collectible shows that they'll still have a good income for decades. Unfortunately, not all of them do that -- but the smart ones do.
If I remember correctly, Jericho had an injury angle in the Chamber match, where Punk couldn't pin him right? So I think that actually protected him quite well. Then he did the 2 clean jobs at the PPV, putting over Punk as the better guy. Sounds good to me.
ReplyDeletei know but im dreading the fozzy content which i have zero interest in.
ReplyDeleteEven better... they have a lot of cool one off cameos that could pop in and challenge too.
ReplyDeleteNot really what I meant. Don't be an obtuse ass.
ReplyDeleteOct 14
ReplyDeleteI hope he mentions how many times he beat Mick Foley.
ReplyDeleteI don't think there's any way they would elevate Regal to that sort of spot, but it would be a nice change of pace.
ReplyDeleteJust torrent a copy
ReplyDeleteI just think a thing WWE could try to boost house show business is have Legends matches that are exclusive to house show tours.
ReplyDeleteI mean, I don't necessarily want to see them on Raw, but I might consider buying a ticket to a house show to see Sid or Vader powerbombing some NXT guy into next week. It would give the vets a payday now and then and it would give a NXT guy a chance to work with a veteran with different ring experience.
Vince should be the lead pbp guy
ReplyDeleteI wear bifocals.
ReplyDeleteThanks man.
ReplyDeleteTo be fair, who else would you have given the moment to?
ReplyDeletetru, but with books i like the feeling of it in my hand. i dont even like to read on a kindle.
ReplyDeleteThey really are, but you don't need to see how they handled Bully Ray to come to that conclusion. Spike pulling out from them means they don't have any long-term cash, so Bully is right in waiting to see what happens.
ReplyDeleteI don’t know, but it just seems typical of TNA making people
ReplyDeletelooking good on their way out, and leaving those who stay looking weaker.
The guy is 66. What's he supposed to look like?
ReplyDeleteI see you've made bail.
ReplyDeleteTriple H.
ReplyDeleteI actually have loved their chemistry in the couple of segments where Jericho's come out ot make fun of stuff and be a light-hearted thorn in the Authority's side.
Oh, I know they wouldn't. They'll probably run their current team for another twenty years; it was more of a fantasy 'what if'. Still, could be refreshing if they ever DID.
ReplyDeleteI doubt it's going to be 2/3 Fozzy.
ReplyDeleteI actually enjoyed the stuff about Fozzy even though I don't care so much about the music itself. It's still an interesting subject matter to me even if it's not the reason I'm a fan of the guy. At times, I find it more interesting than the wrestling stuff. It's cool to read his recollections of those events, but I'm already familiar with them and I wouldn't have bought the book anyway if a rehashing of his wrestling career was all I was interested in.
ReplyDeleteIt's the same reason that some of my favorite podcast episodes are with interviewees who I normally wouldn't at all be interested in. (This happens all the time with Marc Maron's podcast.)
Then what, specifically, did you mean? I wasn't being obtuse. Wrestlers undoubtedly hang on more than "real" athletes, and the reason is they're able to. And the reasons for that, like I said, are obvious.
ReplyDeleteI don't know what discussion you were looking for beyond that.
yea i know i exaggerated a tad there, but it wouldn't surprise me 50/50. the last one was 1/3 fozzy and he's done alot more with them in this time frame than the last book covered.
ReplyDeleteAfter sending two Cena-Lesnar "subscribe to the Network" emails this month, WWE sends one stating "Don't Miss Reigns vs. Rollins on WWE Network" the day after showing the match on Raw. Brilliant.
ReplyDeleteBlandy Boreton?
ReplyDeleteWe got rid of M Roberts for a reason
That would suck. He should know his audience. I'd imagine 99% of the people buying his book are going to be wrestling fans.
ReplyDeleteThis Austin podcast is bizarre, I'm waiting for them to talk about anything interesting but so far it's just calories and shitting.
ReplyDeleteIt takes forever for them to get into wrestling. I generally just skip the first twenty minutes of those pods but even then it's sometimes not good enough.
ReplyDeleteHonestly, I see everyone bitching about the Fozzy chapters, when those were some of the funniest chapters on there. It's kind of tacky, but most of them are name drops of random people he would run into and the encounters he would have with them.
ReplyDeleteIf I'm not mistaken, the Dawn Marie pairing with Lance Storm specifically was because Lance told Heyman "Paul, I want to try and sleep with her."
ReplyDeleteHe never releases books while under contract, which is fantastic because Vince then gets zero input on the process.
ReplyDeleteSame here, I don't see much difference really between the "So me and Kane went out and got hammered and this is what happened..." and the "So me and Sebastian Bach went and got hammered and this is what happened..."
ReplyDeleteHe hardly ever mentions no names, they're almost always funny stories about people everyone is aware of so what's not to like exactly?
Can't. Fozzy is on tour pretty much right after NoC and I'd imagine Jericho has a handful of readings/appearances in between.
ReplyDeletehttp://grantland.com/features/tna-professional-wrestling-dixie-carter-jeff-jarrett-wwe/
ReplyDeletePeople joked about that being a funny idea, no one actually thought they would go through with it.
ReplyDeletePeople thought Jericho was winning because... well... Sheamus? What the hell did he do up until that point?
That's probably all correct, but that's not what dynamic_dave said. He was commenting on how unmemorable the run was....which is correct.
ReplyDeleteTheir best songs are covers. In my head, they're a cover band.
ReplyDeleteI do the same with Austin's and Jericho's. Typically the first 20 minutes is them just talking about whatever, and isn't really interesting to me.
ReplyDeleteYou guys were discussing Foley not being the draw he once was...it might have more to do with this...than too many comebacks https://twitter.com/SatiarShah/status/511910404969463809/photo/1
ReplyDeleteSome people are only happy when they are unhappy.
ReplyDeleteYou know "The Sandman" should really have had the "Go To Sleep" as his finisher.
ReplyDeleteHe was actually solidly pushed the entire summer before that, winning almost every match he was in, with the exception of the Mark Henry feud. People just didn't notice.
ReplyDeleteIn kind of a snarky/sarcastic tone, though.
ReplyDeleteIt's indefensible.
ReplyDeleteThey will run Michael Cole in that chair til his face falls off like JR's did. Lawler til his heart explodes. JBL til he gets bored. Then they'll slot in whichever NXT announcer is the most comfortable having senile Vince yell in his ear. Once Vince strokes out we'll finally get a good announce team.
ReplyDeleteSANDY CLAWS, OOH IM REALLY SCARED!
ReplyDeleteYou're joking you're joking
I can't believe my eyes
You're joking me, you gotta be!
This CANT be the right guy!
That's implying Sandman could do basic wrestling moves.
ReplyDeleteYep. You're online. That alone makes what you read at least a 50% chance of being snarky and/or sarcastic.
ReplyDeleteWearing Christmas clothes?
ReplyDeleteGood article, if overly longish and meandering in points. I think the talent exchanges that Jarrett is trying to work for GFW is a good first step, but that brand just wreaks of minor league hokey shit, and I have no clue how they'll ever be more than a better-financed version of Ring of Honor at their absolute peak.
ReplyDeleteWho would trust him to pull that off?
ReplyDeleteCan Jericho PLEASE go over? Just this ONCE?
ReplyDelete"Since resigning from TNA last December, Jarrett has hustled to get his start-up running. He has signed talent exchanges with more than 13 promotions on five continents including New Japan and AAA, scouted wrestlers, hired Dave Broome from The Biggest Loser fame as an executive producer, and will spend this month scouting potential venues in New York, Los Angeles, Dallas, and Las Vegas. A conglomerate including Toby Keith7 is backing GFW." -- It's weird that he has talent exchanges with companies when he has no talent of his own under contract.
ReplyDeleteAt the very least a sleeperhold. He could probably pull that off...
ReplyDeleteTrue enough, I don't know I always liked Jericho so I find his life outside of wrestling just as interesting. It's not like he's spending chapters talking about sitting at his house and admiring the view, he's all over the world touring with Metallica and shit.
ReplyDeleteOr just work nothing but 30+ minute matches.
ReplyDeleteDixie is delusional.
ReplyDeleteI can't imagine GFW's roster being that good. I'm sure it'll include guys like AJ Styles and some other indy guys, but WWE and TNA have already signed up all the really good talent. There is some guys from ROH that GFW could snag, but I don't see any of those guys' contract expiring soon.
ReplyDeleteIt's odd to hear her say she has "mad respect" for someone and gives them "props." I'm not sure why, it just sounds funny.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if Jarrett's waiting for Dixie to give up, and try to cherry pick from TNA's roster.
ReplyDeleteMaybe the deal is, he shows up on their programming and they plug GFW and he sells a few more t shirts...? Yeah, as far as American talent, it doesn't seem like there is a lot to be had.
ReplyDeleteIt's that old dumb lady shit where they try to say young things in the desperate hopes someone under 40 will fall for it and think they're young. These are the same women that say things like "deets" and shop at stores their daughters showed them.
ReplyDeleteIn other words, she's the prototypical frump.
That's what I was thinking as well especially when the rumor a couple of months ago was GFW's first show would be in November.
ReplyDeleteAt least she did say she would do some things differently. It drives me crazy to see someone crash and burn b/c of bad decisions and hear them say, "I wouldn't do a thing differently..."
ReplyDeleteKurt Angle?
ReplyDeleteAngle is rumored to be re-signing with TNA and won't be ready to wrestle until January.
ReplyDeleteJust spitballing here, but TNA might actually have timed something right for once. If Dixie goes through that table a few weeks later than she did (like sometime in the past two weeks), does anyone think they might have caught some of the Ray Rice "flak"?
ReplyDeleteOr even then, would their "invisibility" have served them well?
Awwwww, it's cute that TNA still gets treated like an actual company.
ReplyDeleteWasn't there a whole discussion here last week about how he was being secretive about who he was signing with?
ReplyDeleteAs awesome as it would be for him to work for his ex wife and the guy she left him for, that probably wouldn't end well...
ReplyDeleteYeah he said last week that in two weeks he will be making an announcement. I can't see him legally being able to announce who he's going to sign with unless it is re-signing with TNA because his contract expires Oct. 21.
ReplyDeleteI thought they were on good terms in the real world? Of course, the most TNA info I get is usually from conversations here, so I could be very wrong...
ReplyDeleteAssuming it actually exists.
ReplyDeleteWhere were you when I was getting into an argument last week about this very topic, saying what you just said?
ReplyDeleteI don't recall even seeing that topic being discussed lol. Was it in a QOTD or something? I tend to avoid those.
ReplyDeleteI think it was in a daily thread, but who can remember? Plus, too lazy to scroll through my posts to check.
ReplyDeleteIt's why I hope for the day Rock writes another book (although hopefully not as shitty as the last one). He has to have some really interesting stories in Hollywood.
ReplyDeleteThe article states that the Angles and Jarretts get along just fine.
ReplyDeleteFirst episode of Nitro I popped on last night 12/321/1995 has Savage vs. Arn and Hogan vs. Flair for the WCW title. I think I'd rather watch 12 hours of Nitro's from back then over 3 hours of today's RAW.
ReplyDeleteThe Jarretts are glorified con men. The promotion will inevitably fail, yet they will come out ahead.
ReplyDeleteThose of you calling for Jericho to hang it up.... Fuck off
ReplyDelete..... Sorry I have irrational love for Jericho. He is my 2nd favorite all time behind HBK and right in front of angle.
You almost never see Mick's wife in photos with him anymore. It's always the kids. Maybe she wants to be more private, or maybe she's not so thrilled that he looks even more homeless than he did in his wrestling heyday.
ReplyDeleteHis wife now runs a clothing store on Long Island.
ReplyDeleteIf Angle had said that on October 21st he would make an announcement about who he is signing with then yes I would say it's either NJPW/ROH/GFW/WWE but the fact that he's announcing it while under contract with TNA then it must be a re-signing. The only thing is that TNA is not signing expiring contracts currently to new deals until they finalize the TV deal. If Angle announces he is re-signed for 2-3 years or whateve then that must mean that Dixie is finalizing a TV deal or already has, which I think she has.
ReplyDeleteThey were on Celebrity Wife Swap like a year or two ago weren't they?
ReplyDeleteI've been going through the start of the Nitro era like a hot knife through butter. I'm already into February. IN fact, I shall continue my watching of SuperBrawl after lunch.
ReplyDeleteSo, does Rollins win on Sunday? If he does then it is 50/50 all over again. If he loses then Ambrose will look like a goof when he comes back to feud with a guy that beat him a couple weeks ago then lost twice to Reigns in one week. I think the only way they can book the Reigns vs. Rollins match is to have Kane interfere after a Reigns spear and cause a DQ then Ambrose saves Reigns during a two-on-one post-match beatdown.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.yelp.com/biz/divine-consign-fashions-smithtown
ReplyDeleteYikes.
They go by way faster. It's 45 minutes of action. I'm sure that you will start struggling when you get to the 3 hour nitros though with 30 minute nWo promos.
ReplyDeleteI know The Rock has said he's working on another book
ReplyDeleteI always considered Angle to be one of TNA's franchise players, and I would think they would want to keep him locked down in a contract if they want a new TV deal, but this is the same company that let it's ACTUAL franchise guy in AJ Styles walk, so who the fuck knows.
ReplyDeleteYeah, but it doesn't say they work together closely. It might be fine, but seems like it would be risky.
ReplyDelete
