Howdy Blog O'Doomers!
I almost feel like it's cruel punishment to expect you guys to sit through RAW or anything wrestling related, especially during the dog days of the season as we trudge along to 2015. However this is the go home show for Night of Champions and Brock is supposedly on the telecast so that might make a difference.
Otherwise there's plenty on TV:
Monday Night Football with the Colts and the Eagles should be a dandy affair.
Tonight's HBO documentary is Terror at the Mall, which goes inside the event that took place at a shopping mall in Kenya last year where four men invaded the mall with automatic weapons and killed around 60 people. Apparently it's very well done and will make it hard to sleep after watching.
PBS has the second part of the Ken Burns biopic on The Roosevelt Family. I'm all in on Ken Burns biographies so the DVR is set and I can watch it when the husband and kid are away watching football this weekend.
New season of Dancing With the Stars although stars is debatable with this group.
What you decide to watch, enjoy it and come out swinging but keep it clean!

Let's hope for a good go-home show. And let's hope for Swagger to beat Dallas Sunday in the pre-game.
ReplyDeleteHow'd she survive the cut? Just curious. Beyond this every week you don't really hear from her.
ReplyDeleteBecause Scott said so. Next question.
ReplyDeleteShe's "awesome"?
ReplyDeleteBecause she's Princess. There would have been rioting in the streets. I even had my pitchfork at the ready, just in case.
ReplyDeleteLike WWE, all of us are writing for an audience of one.
ReplyDeleteAlso because we need at least one woman on this blog. You know, to make us seem credibly not-weird.
ReplyDeleteWe have at least two now.
ReplyDeleteI thought that was Meekin's role.
ReplyDeleteShit, I'm going to have to start wearing deodorant and showing tolerance now.
ReplyDeleteSuck in that gut!
ReplyDeleteI'm down with the Roosevelts.
ReplyDeleteIf you think you hear people booing on RAW tonight, they are just telling you to check out the Ken Burns documentary.
ReplyDeleteI'd be down with more Teddy Roosevelt Big Stick diplomacy instead of LOOK AT ME I'M AMERICA LOOK AT HOW BIG MY DICK IS.
ReplyDeleteThat might be a slight exaggeration, but you get the idea.
I'm assuming this is in reference to the first part, but I'll pretend its in reference to the second part.
ReplyDeleteThanks!
(andtohinkimadeyouabanner)
In all fairness, that kind of was TR's diplomacy. If it weren't for Teddy's strong-arming of Central America, the Panama Canal would not exist.
ReplyDeleteJust joshing, man. I don't mean ill. You know that.
ReplyDeleteEh, the Burns movie has heart, but Football in the Groin has a football in the groin.
ReplyDeleteQuite true. Of course, the Canal was something that had to happen eventually, though. Beats the hell out of sailing around South America.

ReplyDeleteTerror at the Mall? My first thought was, "What, they remade Valley Girls?"
ReplyDelete#I'mOld
TR: 100 words: 100K tons of bombs
ReplyDeleteLast 20 years: 100K words, 100 tons of bombs.
(Figures are obviously made up, and pulled out of thin air for emphasis. There may be* exaggeration involved on all figures.)
(* may be = definitely is.)
How many more weeks until NOC? The thing I like about the network is I get to avoid all the second guessing and complaining and arm-chair book re-writing, pop up the app the night before the show and catch up on everything I missed in an hour or two. No stress, no trouble.
ReplyDeleteIt's like the FWB of wrestling fandom.
It has an unfortunate Lifetime-like title to it.
ReplyDeleteSo you saw the leaked Adrian Peterson video?
ReplyDeleteIt's Sunday
ReplyDeleteKenya is in Africa, right? You know, where Obama is ACTUALLY from?
ReplyDelete#ThanksOBAMA
SHOTS FIRED!
ReplyDeleteHooray!
ReplyDeleteBut the important thing - the continuation of Hoss vs Ice Cream truck - is TONIGHT.
ReplyDelete#HOSSRULES
Speaking of valley girls, you are abusing the hell out of those hashtags fella!
ReplyDeleteSUNDAY! SUNDAY! SUNDAY!
ReplyDeleteAs is the BOD equivalent! Jef Vinson gets his hands on the GM! The UMX must go through ten teams to defend the tag belts! A Fatal Four-Way for the C-List gold! So much more!
ReplyDeleteYeah, I know. I expect to get tired of it anytime now.
ReplyDelete#DeadHorse
My ring entrance consists of a lot of mist, and some distorted yodeling.
ReplyDeleteTUNE IN SUNDAY AT 6:05 PM EST TO FIND OUT
ReplyDeleteTUNE IN TONIGHT AT 10:35 PM EST TO WATCH BoD RAW!
There's Danielle and her Total Divas recap. Not sure if it counts since half of it is just random musings added by her bf for no real reason other than to let us know they are dating. Seriously, that Total Divas wrote up could not be any longer and all of the Matt stuff adds little to nothing. She should learn to stand on her own as a writer before getting a BoD spot.
ReplyDeleteAnd he's the GOOD guy.
ReplyDeleteYeah, but do you harass audience members because of their eating habits?
ReplyDeleteI think not.
has a main event been announced tonight? It's a go-home show so I'm thinking main even promo
ReplyDeleteIt's been heavily implied: John Cena will call out Brock Lesnar for a fight, and if Brock is not present, he will fight Paul Heyman by proxy.
ReplyDeleteSo I was thinking we need a developmental system for future BoD writers to avoid another purge.
ReplyDeleteEverybody gets a name change! I'm now Lift Fargo.
Any word if the NXT guys will be on the show?
ReplyDeleteVery, very well done.
ReplyDeletePretty sure I posted this yesterday, but it bears repeating for the Mon crowd:

Yeah, it is, baby. Yeah. It is.
I think they will be.
ReplyDeleteYou are more of a Wallop Parsons
ReplyDeleteNeville, Zayn, Breeze, and the Ascension are all supposed to be at the TV tapings
ReplyDeleteYou know, I'm shocked half the roster didn't end up in jail for various types of fraud. Any time Dreamer, Jericho, or Heyman himself talk about the way ECW used to finance things sounds insane. Fake names for plane tickets, funeral fares on tickets, half a dozen talents charging business expenses on their personal ccs.
ReplyDeleteThere are benefits that many don't think about that you get by working for a small-time dog-and-pony show that flies under the radar.
ReplyDeleteTo be fair, most wrestlers don't tell lies that are as blatantly bullshit as Tommy Dreamer's mysterious benefactor who was prepared to invest more than 10x what ECW was worth at it's apex into the company while it was death-spiraling and then vanished back into the ether as quickly as they appeared.
ReplyDeleteYou are right. He's mostly there telling stories and shooting the shit with old friends.
ReplyDeleteIt's the same with all podcasts though. If someone goes on your podcast or something, there needs to be a lot of trust there that they won't try to make you look bad.
ReplyDeleteBy the time late 90's rolled around, you needed the big TV deal to make big money, and ECW was never going to get that.
ReplyDeleteIt's something I think of when JR waxes on and on (in every....single....episode) about how wrestling needs to go back to the territory days, completely ignoring that they could never stay alive business wise.
Tommy Dreamer takes his stipulations seriously! He will never team with Terry Funk again!
ReplyDeleteListening to that podcast and seeing him on the Heyman DVD, he just came across as another of these guys who just can't accept that times have moved on. When I heard him say that the guys Heyman bounced checks to basically didn't deserve to get paid and that being able to wrestle in ECW was all that they deserved, I lost so much respect for him. Hearing him talk about having $110 million lined up for ECW was just laughable. If that was actually the case, why wouldn't those investors buy ECW in bankruptcy for pennies on the dollar? Go to community college, Tommy. You have kids to take care of.
You calling him a Hak?
ReplyDeletenot sure on that. Some of those bankruptcy things were just odd. Maybe he managed to weasel the money out of Heyman, or he simply didn't file a claim with the bankruptcy court for his money. None of them got it anyway.
ReplyDeletejust don't have time. But thank you for the kind words.
ReplyDeleteyep all me however my info comes from a variety of sources. I correspond with some folks that went to shows at the ECW arena (and surrounding areas) and had some contact with those involved. It also comes from two books on ECW. The first is called Turning the Tables: The ECW Story by John Lister. The second is called Hardcore HIstory: The extremely Unauthorized HIstory of ECW by Scott. E. Williams. Both are good reads and both contain stories and info the other doesn't and both have incidences that one focuses heavily on, while the other doesn't (e.g. Pillman gets a whole chapter in the Williams book while is only mentioned for a couple paragraphs in the Lister book). I also just keep up with the various info available online.
ReplyDeleteI think they were too big to go back to being small. I also question whether the crowds they had developed would have accepted the new breed. A lot of the newer ECW fans were pretty bloodthirsty. They talk about the ECW arena crowd, but those folks generally appreciated good wrestling. Some of the crowds in other markets (Florida and NY being worst from what I hear) would shit on a technical match and scream for New Jack to bring out some weapons.
ReplyDeleteI think Heyman would have been awesome with the new breed of talent like Punk, Joe, etc. But he was so heavily in debt that there was simply no way to scale back and ever pay off all the money owed. TNN was a last ditch effort to make it work. But according to the LIster book I referenced in a post above, to make the TNN deal work with production costs and the cut TNN got of revenue for running the show, ECW would have to increase revenue by 50% to reach profitability in 99.
Just to add that it is important to remember that Heyman was PAYING to run ECW on many stations around the country, including large amounts in Chicago and NY. That was another expense.
ReplyDeleteI thought his match with Bigelow at Stampede was a very enjoyable garbage match.
ReplyDeleteI read Hardcore History, it was an enjoyable cheap buy for my Kindle. Some nice quotes from minor players.
ReplyDeleteIf I recall, there was something more to it. Like, Corino hadn't been paid for a long time, so he stopped bladding which pissed Heyman off royally, etc...
