Hi scott,
Question for you about Jim Duggan in 1993. It seemed like he was being primed for a push in the beginning of the year, having been the first man to knock Yokozuna down (which I remembered being a big deal as a kid), getting a slight repackage with new gear, and being put in high profile matches with Narcissist Luger and IC champ Shawn Michaels. Then he was basically squashed out of the King of the Ring and was gone from the company.
Were there any plans for Duggan moving forward that year? If so, what happened? Was he just attached at the hip to Hogan at the time and once Hogan was gone, he was gone too?

Duggan was just a guy they could plug into a top spot during off-times and beat without worrying about him getting over again. I doubt there was any bigger plans than the usual "foreign menace insults America, Duggan goes Hooo and waves the flag" type of stuff.
I think Daniel Craig's Bond will end up killing Batista's character in that movie.
ReplyDeleteHacksaw wouldn't be taking any shit from Rusev, I can tell you that, Tough Guy!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to go to the theater and chant Daniel Bryan every time he is on screen.
ReplyDeleteI love that Hacksaw is still doing this gimmick on the indies. I saw a TCW (RIP) show last year and he was beating a Sultan while wearing gym shorts. The match was atrocious, as you might expect, but a fun walk down memory lane.
ReplyDeleteWhat was the deal with the short-lived singlet?
ReplyDeleteThis will only raise Batista's movie profile, so congrats.
ReplyDeleteI dont think he will ever be a 20M/movie guy but he will absolutely be able to call his own shots in wrestling from now on.
If Duggan and Slaughter are still around, Rusev should 100% beat them up. Maybe in the Wrestlemania build.
ReplyDeleteBut...will he be wearing skinny jeans?
ReplyDeleteHe has every right to laugh in every wrestling fan's face and tell us to go fuck ourselves after the hard time we gave him coming back. The fact he hasn't done that (along with how he made fun of himself on his last Raw appearance) shows what kinda guy he is - respect
ReplyDeleteBatista should fit nicely into Danny Trejo roles. He's big, he's mean, he's dark. Perfect for a leading henchmen.
ReplyDeleteDanny Trejo's a hilarious case. He looks like a total bad ass but he's like five feet tall.
ReplyDeleteStill hope he can come back for a few months and get a legit send off.
ReplyDelete"Duggan was just a guy they could plug into a top spot during off-times and beat without worrying about him getting over again. "
ReplyDeleteSounds EXACTLY like Big Show's role right now.
Hell yeah. Doesn't Sarge wrestle 1 or 2 matches a year anyway? Would be a perfect use.
ReplyDeleteYep, same for Joe Pesci really. He's about the same height, but he's about the scariest MF'er on the planet when he wants to be.
ReplyDelete"Bond, I am taking over the world, and wiping out millions of people in the process. DEAL WITH IT!"
ReplyDeleteYokozuna Banzai dropping Hacksaw into oblivion was one of the angles that hooked me. Why is nobody helping him? My god he's gonna kill him! The Banzai drop legit scared me in my childhood. In retrospect 1993 was a lousy year but it's the year that I got sucked in.
ReplyDeleteI was horrified when Yoko gave Duggan the banzai drop and he got stretchered out.
ReplyDeleteWhen Hacksaw got the new gear I immedietly expected an IC title run. He had some nice matches with HBK for the title. I was 10 and I was rooting for him. Loved the change from the speedos to the singlet.
ReplyDeleteAfter hearing him on Jericho I wish him only the best and hope he's successful enough to never need/want to come back.
ReplyDeleteWe saw Trejo at a smackdown taping in 2007 and the dude is short. I'm not a tall dude (5' 8") and he was smaller than me.
ReplyDeleteUnrelated but Benoit was also shorter than me by a hair when I walked by him at a signing once.
First.
ReplyDeleteyou win the prize!
ReplyDeleteBut really, the only item today I even kind of care about is the Noelle Foley thing, I see her on Twitter all the time she's always seemed really into the business, if she has even half her dad's promo ability she could be a big deal.
ReplyDeleteNoelle Foley wrestling sounds like a great idea. She loves wrestling and she's super hot. Perfect.
ReplyDeleteI would give Noelle Foley Mr. Socko with my cock
ReplyDeleteSly Stallone is short too, but he was the baddest dude on the planet for decades (kayfabe).
ReplyDeleteI really thought Duggan was being buried from watching KOR first - but he actually went over HBK by DQs - although with the goofy outfit I thought it was about over for Duggan. Given he went into WCW and even got to squash Steve Austin for the US title kind of tells the story.
ReplyDeleteI'd jump off the top of a cage and land right in her vagina!!
ReplyDeleteAS GOD AS MY WITNESS SHE HAS BEEN BROKEN IN HALF
ReplyDeleteI'd play with her nipples like they were tiny little thumbtacks
ReplyDeleteNoelle has to drop the elbow off the apron.
ReplyDeleteGood on him. Surely after Bond he will be undisputedly the most successful wrestler to have appeared in movies?
ReplyDeleteGive Flair something to do tonight, WWE. Don't just stick him out there with a flat script. It makes me sad.
ReplyDeleteYou are saying you would let her give you a blowjob
ReplyDeleteDuggan was maybe the main guy to either take over Hogan feuds once he needed to move on, or to set a guy up for a WrestleMania feud. He feuded with Andre & Savage after Hogan. Feuded with Earthquake & Slaughter befoGre Hogan. Then he was the vehicle to establish Yokozuna going into WM 9, and was also Yoko's final victory before the Summerslam match with Luger. He was utterly fantastic at his job, super over, and had a fun final 8 months before doing the honors on the way out.
ReplyDeleteInstead of trotting Ric out for a drunk promo every time he needs money we need to think outside the box here. I'm thinking we need a "Support Flair's Nightlife" Kickstarter. All donations would go onto a card he could use to pay bar tabs. And think of the rewards! We could have:
ReplyDeleteDonate $100: Ric will personally drunk dial you at 3 in the morning and WOO over and over again.
Donate $500: Ric will mail you a pair of shoes that cost more than your house.
Donate $1000: Ric will personally take your old lady on a ride on space mountain.
I think this idea has legs.
I've found that women prefer a direct approach when telling them what you'd like. No need for innuendo to get in her end-o.
ReplyDeleteI'm guessing it was a '93 type thing. The old guard was out, the (seemingly) new guard was in. Just something small to freshen up the act is my guess. Make him look less out of place.
ReplyDeleteI really need to check out NJPW King of Pro Wrestling 2014. Sounds like another great show they did.
ReplyDeleteHow much for Ric to frame the person of your choosing for assault by calling the cops and then busting himself open?
ReplyDeleteDuggan always reminded me of chicken nuggets...
ReplyDelete$750
ReplyDeleteHave him talk and not get a scripted promo from a bunch of hacks you mean?
ReplyDeleteFlair is clearly coming back in Atlanta to reform WCW and start another invasion. Could we please have several threads to discuss how this might be booked?
ReplyDeleteIf training to be a wrestler gets Noelle Foley on TV I am all for it. Seriously I hope Mick has had her DNA tested... how does that guy produce that daughter?
ReplyDeleteAgreed. Hopefully she has some athletic ability, but she loves THIS BUSINESS so much it's ridiculous.
ReplyDeleteSadly more interesting than what they'll do tonight.
ReplyDeleteDefine successful.
ReplyDeleteOnly after the invasion thread and as long as it is posted three minutes after the next thread
ReplyDeleteAye! Have him talk, have him win the world title, whatever. Just don't have some hack writer think they know Flair. BE FAIR TO FLAIR.
ReplyDeleteHis wife is pretty solid.
ReplyDeleteOh good, glad to see we'll get another sad drunk promo from Flair tonight.
ReplyDeleteSo much nicer than what happens when you say "first" on YouTube.
ReplyDeleteFirst off FUCK YOU that Foley's daughter..the little girl from Beyond the Mat is old enough to start training because that would mean that movie is...15 years old making me....Nevermind! The point is..time sucks.
ReplyDeleteNever seen her, but I don't know what Foley's standing in the company is to have it help her snag a job on family connections alone. Out of all the Attitude Era guys, Foley always feels like the guy on the verge of being crossed with Stamford at any one point.
ReplyDeleteSolid enough for Shawn Michaels to have knocked her up, I'll say.
ReplyDelete15 years... It's a long time...
ReplyDeleteWhatever happens, she better not say her favorite match is Melina vs Alicia Fox.
ReplyDeleteFor the anniversary Barry W. Blaustein gave Mic Foley a trophy...and Terry Funk a notably smaller trophy.
ReplyDeleteThrew up in my mouth there a little...
ReplyDeleteUm, the Rock?
ReplyDeleteShe won't. However her favorite promo is Brie Bella vs Nikki Bella.
ReplyDeleteIf New Japan would ever get around to producing an English broadcast of their shows, they could probably out-compete Ring of Honor without breaking a sweat.
ReplyDeleteDamn Mick......
ReplyDeletehttps://twitter.com/NoelleFoley
Financially successful. The films he's appeared in have grossed the most amount of money. I suppose The Rock's might've grossed more in total, but none have been as big as Guardians or Bond. Nowhere near.
ReplyDeleteI realise Duggan has his detractors, but I'd rather watch him than most of the bland crap WWE puts out today.
ReplyDeleteAren't most of the Flair complaints lately that he's drunk and could probably use a script?
ReplyDeleteGuys, this is Latino Review. They're worse than 411 when it comes to rumors.
ReplyDeleteI laughed, but the sad business of it all is that I really can't get into a Ric Flair promo anymore. Even when he's sober, he sounds like he's sucking on a fistful of Everlasting Gobstoppers. He's done lasting damage, and I don't know if it was all the hard-partying, the road, or going in the ring for as long as he did. But he did a promo with Randy Orton last year and was barely intelligible the entire time.
ReplyDeleteFIRE ME?! I'M ALREADY FIRED!
ReplyDeleteYou really seem to dislike wrestling...
ReplyDeleteThis is sadly accurate.
ReplyDeleteI'm honestly cool with never seeing Ric on TV again. It just makes me sad. Plus he wouldn't have the pointless cameos if he didn't badly need money.
ReplyDeleteBloody hell, she was at NYCC and I missed her?! Ah well, it was a seas of hot girls there, so she would have stood out a bit less, honestly.
ReplyDeleteStill, kudos to Mick. Who knew he had the genes in him to create such a lovely person?
Behind the fat and scars and missing teeth, he's actually a pretty handsome guy...
ReplyDeleteI am horribly angry that I'm working today.
ReplyDelete
