Longtime WWE Talent Retiring From In-Ring Competition?
There is talk that Goldust will be transitioning to a role as a full-time agent and producer soon. This is expected to happen after WrestleMania 31. His team with Stardust will slowly fade out over the next few months. As far as the future of Stardust, it is expected that character will stay as a singles wrestler.

Fresh.
ReplyDeleteSad prediction: once goldust leaves, cody gets no storyline/airtime and will be future endeavored in a year
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure if it was Scott or someone else who mentioned it, but Bryan as the Bunny winning the Royal Rumble would be pretty hilarious. I'd mark out.
ReplyDelete"After you hit him in the corner, you want to pucker your lips and feel yourself up, and then hit him again."
ReplyDeleteYou will never forget the name.....ohhhhh......Road-dust.
Bit alarmist.
ReplyDeleteI'm hoping Ace of Base smokes Nirvana and moves on.
ReplyDeleteGoldust was previously a producer before being fired for an incident wherein the Prime Time Players almost broke Yoshi Tatsu's neck via fucked up move which Goldust had approved as booker.
ReplyDeleteSo the story really is, "After successfully returning as an in-ring competitor and sharing his experience and knowledge in the ring with his half-brother Cody Rhodes, Goldust will be transitioning back to his former job"
Off topic: why was Mongo so reviled on commentary? Or at least, I remember him being.
ReplyDeleteI've been going through all the nitros that are on the Network currently, and so far I've been really impressed. Maybe he's just repeating lines that are fed to him. But he's still a lot better than Fat Tony.
He is midcard for life. He wont get canned until he is almost 40
ReplyDeleteThat's not the bunny, that's the goat!
ReplyDeleteI see him as the new Shawn Michaels.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure around the time of Wrestlemania X, there was a lot of similar talk about him. And I'd say his career then was similar to that of Cody now.
Shawn turned out fine. Cody's dad is Dusty. He'll be okay.
He really didn't know what he was talking about, and he would often speak before thinking. This led to gaffes about basically everything going on, as well as when he would use turns of phrase. He was a babbler and a rambler, that's the long and short of it.
ReplyDeleteAre you Matt Striker?
ReplyDeleteThere's a version of Losing My Religion online where it's all been digitally edited from minor chords to major chords, it's really weird to listen to but pretty cool.
ReplyDeletehttp://411mania.com/wrestling/wwe-tweets-shot-at-cm-punk-by-dolph-ziggler/
ReplyDeleteWell I'm done with ziggler. All he can do is bump, he can't really work a good match (seriously how many great singles matches has he had? Any?), can't cut a promo, and now he compares punk almost being killed by the wwe to his shitty angle of that didn't get over and no one cares about, outside of what cena will do.
So Roman Reign's promo last night.......
ReplyDeleteAndre referred to himself as a Giant many times before, right? I'm not losing my mind here, right?
When did this happen? I'm currently up to late January 1996 and so far I've not heard him say a single thing that was dumb or rambling. He's had a few decent back-and-forth exchanges with Heenan. So far, he's the commentary MVP of Nitro, even.
ReplyDeleteLink?
ReplyDeleteYah I really dug that version, pretty cool sounding.
ReplyDeleteI see him as the new Shawn Michaels.
ReplyDeleteUh... Why?
Ziggler is overrated. He bumps the same for lower card guys as he does for the main eventers. Its idiotic. Plus, is offense is pretty weak.
ReplyDeleteThere's many examples. Hell, the first thing out of his mouth makes NO sense!
ReplyDelete"Listen here, this place is apropos, and I'm not talking about digging in the dirt with no farm implements, neither!"
I feel like this is an old Sunny episode, where Dennis is talking to Charlie about his political script..."This doesn't make any SENSE!!!"
I really hope they just do the fucking Cody Rhodes/Goldust match that has been mooted for years at Wrestlemania - make it a retirement match (although I'm not sure Goldust truly deserves a retirement match at Mania...), have them hug it out afterwards and then give Cody a chance to move back up the card
ReplyDeleteHe is like a Tito Santana in the sense that he will never be a top guy but rather a long-term midcarder.
ReplyDeleteClearly you've been hit on the head with a blunt object.
ReplyDeleteGet him outta here
ReplyDeleteWhy do you say that?
ReplyDeletePerfect comparison.
ReplyDeleteBecause he's been that way for 8 years already.
ReplyDeleteThey've both spent a good long time around the lower mid-card, mostly in tag competition. They've been intercontinental title holder, neither of them has done a lot with it admittedly, but they've not been bad champions. Afterward, both have gone back into tag competition, it's just a matter of time before a renewed push for either, brings them back into the fore.
ReplyDeleteAnd at that point, as was the case with Shawn, I think it will be Cody's 'time'. In the ring, they're quite similar, even down to their finisher being a glorified kick.
I see tons of similarities between them.
Lol, no. I used to have a twitter handle "MarkingOutBro" in tribute to that glorious Striker meltdown at the 2011 Royal Rumble. Does that count?
ReplyDeleteHe seems to think he's BITW when I don't think I've seen a singles match of his that's over ****.
ReplyDeleteSuck-up.
ReplyDeleteSo like kofi Kingston
ReplyDeleteCould be an ideal Pre Show storyline match..?
ReplyDeleteIt took Shawn Michaels nearly four years and being fired at least once, before he even got so much as an IC title run.
ReplyDeleteIn today's WWE, that's the same as eight years. Especially as Cody, unlike Shawn, didn't have the benefit of a few years in the NWA first.
Kofi - now THERE's a Tito Santana you can set your watch to.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely yes.
ReplyDeleteHe's been there 8 years and nothing is happening at all. Plus he doesn't have half of Shawn's talent. (Not uncommon). He's a midcarder for life. But an awesome one. Big fan but he's never getting that push, and the wwe doesn't care about dusty Rhodes to that extent. I'd like to see him get the spot as the top midcard guy but even that ain't gonna happen.
ReplyDeleteHe's still young. He's in it for the long haul and I feel like he'll get his chance sometime, although not if he stick with the Stardust gimmick.
ReplyDeleteHe's overrated in the eyes of the IWC, but there's no denying that crowds pop for him, and YA CAN'T... BUY... THAT...!
ReplyDelete(You might be able to teach if it you actually gave a shit about your midcard, right enough.)
He probably didn't write that line, he just was the one assigned to deliver it.
ReplyDeleteAnyone beginning a sentence with 'Clearly' has already lost by virtue of being a dick.
ReplyDeleteYou think Cody is getting a main event push this year?
ReplyDeleteI SAW A DAMN BUNNY TURN INTO A GOAT AT THE RUMBLE, MAGGLE!
ReplyDeleteWwe higher ups probably like him more now because of that tweet
ReplyDeleteI agree. He is one of several guys who gets a good reaction so you have to push him. I just don't think he is the next coming of Mr. Perfect or HBK.
ReplyDeleteI've not heard that specific example, and I've not heard anything to bother me yet. A few folksy expressions, but then he is on colour and they've all been... apropros.
ReplyDeleteThe undercard for Rumble is about as strong as a mid 1996 PPV.
ReplyDeleteKofi just isn't good enough or over enough to be Tito. Cody really is. He's an incredible midcard act they just won't have break through.
ReplyDeleteI'm almost positive that they made him say that.
ReplyDeleteHe'll put that behind him, just like Shawn Michaels put that whole silly neon-coloured tassled period behind him.
ReplyDeleteYeah, it is really weak.
ReplyDeleteI always loved whenever Heenan would mock Mongo...lol
ReplyDelete"Bumppettwittcha hayyyyedddd"
I like his promos and really like his character.
ReplyDeleteSorry.
ReplyDeleteClearly You've been hit on the head with a blunt object.
There ya go.
I like him ok, but I don't think that he's got what it takes to do any more than he's done. Kind of a Shelton Benjamin to me.
ReplyDeleteWell, it's January and at the moment he's in a tag-team which is currently suspected to have some kind of break-up angle around April. Between April and December? Not sure. Maybe.
ReplyDeleteBetween April and April 2016 -- if we're going by the calendar of the WWE here -- then yeah, I think it'll be his time at some point. Depends on injuries blah blah blah.
His best one was probably the TLC vs cena but that has A LOT of bells and whistles to get a match over. If he's just working a match I can't think of one near 4 stars either.
ReplyDeleteI think he's solid but that Shelton was better.
I haven't seen anything out of Shawn Michaels in his mid-card days that I haven't seen in Cody.
He and Heenan have a natural chemistry for bickering together that I haven't before heard with Heenan and *anyone else in WCW*. That's got to stand for something.
ReplyDeleteNo, and I agree with you on that score too. But hell, he's still more talented in the ring than 90% of those they continually push down our throats in the main event. And he's fresh (relative to Cena, that is) and new (relative to Cena, that is), so I'd welcome him getting a little run for a while at the top.
ReplyDeleteBut it all comes back to the WWE's single biggest problem (imo) - they have this weird fixation on having one "top guy" (with maybe a few special attractions like Lesnar, Taker, Rock, etc floating around parallel) rather than being sensible and having three or four (at least) who they can rotate in and out to keep things feeling organic and alive.
But you're forgetting that they don't build anyone up that way anymore. Name somebody that's been around as long as Cody, that they're trying to push to the top? The same guys on top from 8 years ago, and the new guys they want to try to get there.
ReplyDeleteShawn was never given comedy gimmicks like the mustache one and Stardust though. That is usually a sign you're never going to be a top guy.
ReplyDeleteWhyIoughta...
ReplyDeleteNo way, he's a strong midcarder who is willing to take anything that he's given and throw his heart into it. Plus he's got family behind the scenes.
ReplyDeleteIt's unlikely that he'll ever be a top guy, but he'll be around a long while.
Shelton was criminally misused by the WWE.
ReplyDeleteIt's dreadful. And it could all have been really easily fixable if they took their heads out of their arses for five minutes.
ReplyDeleteWell one difference is that by 91/92 a lot of people though shawn was the best worker in north america. Cody is really good, I'm not saying he can't work a good match and he's gotten over anything he's done, but late rockers Shawn was viewed like Bryan or zayn today.
ReplyDeleteI think you're wrong, but if it happens I'll be pleasantly surprised.
ReplyDeleteThink Sandow will finally split from The Miz on Sunday?
ReplyDeleteWell he did beat HHH that one time on RAW...
ReplyDeleteAll the time. It's such a stupid thing to say.
ReplyDeleteHe had a decent series with Bryan for the US title in 2010/11(?), but yeah, no surprise there. He hasn't improved or altered at all his move-set in years. As is the case with most factory farmed WWE guys, he has about fifteen moves in total.
ReplyDeleteBrock in a Mexican hat.
ReplyDeleteEddie is a Mexican stereotype.
Big Show has shit dumped over him.
Kurt Angle in a funny little hat.
Steve Austin giving everyone hugs.
The first ten years of Mark Henry's career.
etc.
It's been proven that Vince loves it when people do whatever stupid shit that he tells them to, and that he expects people to be willing to humiliate themselves and get over their egos e.g. HHH in the Hog-Pen match and no-I-am-not-saying-HHH-has-no-ego.
So far Cody has taken that shit and ran with it. I'd say the signs suggest that he's got a very, very bright future.
Unlike, say, mister Dolph "I only get a push because I keep whinging on the internet" Ziggler, who will be gone within five years.
Speaking of misuse and HHH... Booker T.
ReplyDeleteRemember when he was absolutely on fire but they just wouldn't, for whatever reason (Hi Alberto? What's that you're saying?) pull the trigger on him and just jobbed him out to the glory of HHH instead?
That's a little Ziggler-esque actually. Can't help but feel, like with Booker eventually, they'll realise too late that he should have been better positioned and, while he'll still do ok for himself, won't ever be the top level he could have been if they'd struck when the iron was hot.
I like Ziggler but yeah, that was a ridiculous thing to say. And such a typically childish WWE move to actually Tweet it. Punk's tweet sums it all up really
ReplyDeleteDid they in 91/92? Not Bret, or even Flair or Steamboat? I honestly find that hard to believe, but I don't have a WON subscription to go check.
ReplyDeleteThat would be where I'd place it, or alternatively have them break up at Mania/Pre-Show and have the retirement match the next night on Raw. WWE treat it as a big night and the inevitably "smart" crowd would give Goldy a good send off
ReplyDeleteWhat do you really like about his character?
ReplyDeleteHis name is Andre THE GIANT. He's essentially referring to himself as one all the time
ReplyDeleteYup. That screams scripted promo. Ziggy of all people wouldn't toe the company line so hard.
ReplyDeleteHe's got to. Surely to god they can't hold off on it any further?
ReplyDeleteThere have been several perfect opportunities to do it, and they've held back. It's time for Sandow to step up.
It's got to be in the Rumble. Miz gets eliminated and demands his stunt double do the same. Dissension ensues. It's the most satisfying way possible, imo.
Wasn't his name Andre the Giant? Not like, Just Andre.
ReplyDeleteHe's too busy bumping to actually have a really good match. He would bump the same for El Torito as he would for Big Show.
ReplyDeleteWhoops.
ReplyDeleteDolph Ziggler, off the top of my head. There you go.
ReplyDeleteThe guys on top right now include: Seth Rollins, Roman Reigns, Brock Lesnar. What were their best WWE matches of 2007 in your opinion?
I don't mind him getting a run, they need to shake things up, but I don't think he is all that great.
ReplyDeleteCM PUNK! CM PUNK! CM PUNK!
ReplyDeleteGod I hope. This could actually be a fun midcard program for Mania.
ReplyDeleteDolph probably didn't write that line, he was just chosen to deliver it,
ReplyDeleteShelton is 10X the wrestler Dolph could ever be.
ReplyDeleteMaybe he'll eliminate himself as Miz gets eliminated by someone else.
ReplyDeletehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y6KmiIq2-m8
ReplyDeleteThose are all comedy segments, not full characters though. Brock wasn't wearing a Mexican hat for as long as Cody portrayed Stardust.
ReplyDeleteI'm never afraid to be wrong!
ReplyDeleteGoldust deserves some major credit for his work since returning two years ago. Not to mention somehow making that 1995 WWF gimmick work and staying relevant.
ReplyDeleteKinda sad he's retiring soon, since he can still go (even with a full-time schedule) at the age of 45. He and Cody shouldn't be jobbing right now while we get the same shitty Usos/Mizdow match on RAW every week.
Stardust isn't a comedy character. He's the WWE trying to do a 'crazy bad guy' comic book character within PG boundaries and with ultimate approval from a senile old man who doesn't care for such things.
ReplyDeleteHe's as much a comedy character as Sin 'No Face' Cara or Rey 'No Knees' Misterio Jr. or Kalisto.
I really wish that they had used him as easy meat for Brock. They've done a shitty job in using his status as a Wily And Respected Veteran Of The Ring with his come-back. But his team has also been consistently entertaining. I'd put him Goldust in with the GOATs. Not as high up as say HBK but on a lower tier, definitely.
ReplyDeletehttp://dailywrestlingnews.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/Stardust.gif
ReplyDeleteYeah, good shout. I think they deserve it, and it's the last chance they're realistically going to get.
ReplyDeletethere are still spots left in the Royal Rumble shoot interview contest. Email me at BBayless781@gmail.com to enter.
ReplyDeleteMy girlfriend is consistently baffled by his gimmick of being this 'blonde bombshell' type with screaming girls in the crowd and so on (esp. if you go back a few years to his 'Show... Off...' phase), as he's a very, very ugly man. Which in turn made her overlook his decent ring-work for a very long time.
ReplyDeleteAlthough, she still doesn't see him as any more than 'above average', and me saying "no, no, you don't understand, he bumps a lot, why, he's like a latter day Mister Perfect!!!!" is just met with, "Shut up nerd".
As it should be.
Comes off as a star in my eyes. Like his confidence. I don't dislike his promos either.
ReplyDeleteYeah. Their concern shouldn't be fans shitting on Reigns winning the Rumble, it should be fans being asleep by the time the title match starts.
ReplyDeleteYeah, he looks a bit like Captain Marvel or something.
ReplyDeleteI don't see your point.
Like why in the fuck are they going to care about that six man match. I might be outside for the first hour and a half of the PPV because it's all smoke break matches!
ReplyDeleteDid you know that Mick Foley won the world title despite having previously played multiple characters in the same company and despite having work a sock over his hand as a beloved comedy character?
ReplyDeleteMankind was 100X the comedy character that Stardust is. And he did okay.
Foley was a bigger star as Mankind than Cody was at any point of his career.
ReplyDeleteI think it was more along the lines that Andre didn't, when talking, continually have to remind people he's a giant by shouting "I'm a giant!" over and over again. He just WAS.
ReplyDeletehttp://kissingsuzykolber.uproxx.com/2015/01/12-other-ways-the-patriots-have-cheated.html
ReplyDeleteHe really should be a heel. The character is - to me - 100% heel.
ReplyDeleteHe's the modern day Rick Martel.
Goldust had a really good run in multiple stints with the company. He's like the non-fuck-up version of Marty Jannetty.
ReplyDeleteLast night I compared this show to WM 12. Only 5 matches (though I'm sure at least one gets added Sunday), one of which will go an hour.
ReplyDeleteMankind was a character which Foley adopted late in his career, having previously been known around the world for another character, despite having worked a lot of stupid-verging-on-comedy stuff in WCW and creative-verging-on-comedy stuff in ECW.
ReplyDeleteThen later, as his career was practically winding down, due to injuries, and thoughts of retirement were in his head, he became Mankind.
Cody isn't there yet. He's still at least 3 years younger than Mick was and his body's in far, far better shape.
So when it's time for his main event push, he'll be nice and ready!
Agree. That was written for him.
ReplyDeleteYES. Fuck all these Perfect and Michaels comparisons. Martel.
ReplyDeleteBut what about his character is it that you like?
ReplyDeleteI'm not saying it cant happen, I mean whoever thought Bradshaw would be the champion, but its really doubtful.
ReplyDeleteHitting you up now, bro.
ReplyDeleteFor the most part, I just don't get art.
ReplyDeleteMusic sure, literature a bit, but like paintings? I don't get it. Ballet? I went to one with a totally open mind and it was dreadful. They just dance about.
Sure. Plus his name was Andre the Giant. Everyone called him a giant.
ReplyDeleteAhhhh, the ballet...
ReplyDelete*Pictures bear driving a tiny car.*
Christ this roster is the absolute pits. But yeah keep bumping like an asshole Dolph, just to stay on track as a nothing mid carder. You're obviously the smart one there!
ReplyDeleteHopefully the main event and Rumble are a little faster paced than 12s main event.
ReplyDeleteWho would have ever thought a weak-promo midget like Shawn Michaels would become the champion? Who would have ever seen The Ringmaster as arguably the biggest thing ever in wrestling? When The Giant appeared as a novelty in WCW, who would have suspected that he'd still be wrestling nearly TWENTY years later? Who would have suspected The Undertaker would be a gimmick with similar longevity? Who would have foreseen Bob Backlund as WWF champion in the mid-90s?
ReplyDeleteAnd so on. I don't see how there's any scope to say that it's really doubtful. Plus, he has far, far more talent than Bradshaw, and his familial connection is as good as being Vince's golf buddy, surely.
You get wrestling.
ReplyDeleteArt is everywhere, it doesn't belong in a box. Appreciate what you appreciate and your appreciation will go far.
He comes off as a cool cat.
ReplyDeleteExactly. Seth = new guy, Reigns = new guy, Lesnar = big star already.
ReplyDeleteCody is an 8 year vet that has been in the mid card since the beginning.
Ziggler is a good example, but he's still seen as "not quite there." It's not like you see him in title matches like Rollins.
Oh, he had his fuckups... he just overcame them.
ReplyDeleteBookDust was one of the best and most entertaining pairings I can ever remember in the WWE's history.
ReplyDeleteThe two were just superb together - Booker was an excellent straight man and GD was, well, who he was. The fans loved them, too, iirc. Always got a good pop for their backstage shenanigans.
That's true- someone who enjoys pro wrestling should be able to appreciate why others enjoy ballet
ReplyDeleteCome to think of it Andre the Giant is a REALLY cool wrestling name, that you probably couldn't pull off today.
ReplyDeleteThey waited FOREVER to put the tag belts on them and then they lose them back in a month.
ReplyDeleteI took an art class my last semester of college. It really put it into perspective because i never really "got it" as well. Art is something different to each and every person.
ReplyDeleteI also don't get Art. All he does is spend the entire show asking "How much does DIS fella weigh?"
ReplyDeleteHis latest run has been a bit shit though, to be fair
ReplyDeleteIf ballet people yelled at each other and concentrated on punching more than being nimble, I would maybe get it.
ReplyDeleteHornswoggle the Small doesn't have the same ring to it.
ReplyDeleteI said similar elsewhere in the comments today, but in all honesty, if you look up "misused talent" in the WWEctionary, it'll be a giant picture of Booker T.
ReplyDeleteBallet isn't always particularly thrilling, but the skill involved is very impressive.
ReplyDeleteAlso, most ballet dancers could probably kick your head off - their leg power is astonishing.
Yeah it's still 'theatre' though, they can convey a fight through interpretive dance. E.g. check out Shia Labeouf in Sia's new video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KWZGAExj-es
ReplyDeleteThey'd probably call him Frenchy Andrews or something.
ReplyDeleteZiggler was the centerpiece of the main event of Survivor Series and every time that they give him a belt, he does something stupid to piss off his bosses. That's quite different to just quietly doing the best with what they give you, which is what Cody has been doing.
ReplyDeleteWhat do you think was the better run for Goldust? His influential shades-of-grey character in early '96 or the gut-busting hilarity of his tag team with Booker T in 2002?
ReplyDeleteAs a bonus, you can weigh those against his stint as a legitimized worker in WCW from '92 to '94 or thereabouts.
Oh yeah, I get that they are in fantastic shape, and I certainly could never do what they do. It's just, I don't get why they want to do what they do.
ReplyDeleteI just can't emotionally connect with dance I guess. It's just such a non-thing to me.
King Booker.
ReplyDeleteOk, he didn't get to do an awful lot with it (at least compared to what he SHOULD have), but the character was great fun.
BookDust a close second.
I'd politely disagree. Kofi gets at least one monster pop a year. Tito.... uh.... maybe that time he was in the Ultimate Survival match? Post IC run that is.
ReplyDeleteI'm not saying Cody isn't good. I'm saying they'll never give him a chance. He's a mid carder for life.
ReplyDeleteI don't get art. I mean a great painting is a great painting, I just don't get how one person's scribble on a canvas can be worth thousands and another's scribble on a canvas ain't worth shit.
ReplyDeleteAbstract art is what I don't get, I guess.
I feel the same about FPS games. See all these guys who spend their entire time playing multiplayer Halo and the like? Just does nothing for me at all - just feels like a frantic mess. ;)
ReplyDeleteI guess if everyone liked everything, life would be a bit dull - and getting tickets for anything would be a nightmare :D
I don't like FPS either.
ReplyDeleteI've always maintained that if *I* could do it (for example, a small red square painted on a canvas) then it's not art.
ReplyDeleteSomething like the work of Caravaggio, on the other hand... mind blowing.
Rember when Smackdown had a few episodes with TWO **** matches back in 2002. That was insane.
ReplyDeleteWell it'll be fun for us both to wait and see. Cheers! *toasts*
ReplyDeleteActually yeah, he's ok. I guess I some some painting.
ReplyDeleteOpera is ok too. Even if you can't understand what they're saying, you don't need to. It's all about the emotion.
I guess mainly it's just ballet. Dancing sucks.
Fuck! I thought I was alone on the internet! Have a high five!
ReplyDelete*high fives*
Okay, so Reigns meant "Andre didn't have to remind us that he was a Giant, he just was."
ReplyDeleteI'm still not sure it sold any tickets or Network purchases, though.
I'm no art major or anything, and I might sound like a complete idiot here, but I like his shading (?) or whatever. The way he makes his blacks seem really dark and deep.
ReplyDeleteStick around, there's lots of stuff that I don't like.
ReplyDeletehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ct-qfLVihWc
ReplyDeleteWCW Dustin wins on this alone.
Yeah, but I think it's *would* you do it rather than *could*you do it. I think that's the difference between an artist and a non-artist. To put a red square on a canvas, put it out to the world and say that THIS means something is to be an artist. A non-artist wouldn't even entertain the thought.
ReplyDeleteThat usually happens with the babyface chase...it's not as entertaining once they're on top. It's not the face's fault, it's just a matter of the chase.
ReplyDeleteBut you're right, they could've put the belts on them at Summerslam.
I would probably say his character in '96. I feel like the tag team with Booker wasn't fully realized. They filmed some funny vignettes, chased the tag titles for a month, won the tag titles for a month and broke up. I think they should have been part of a babyface brigade against HHH/Evolution (they were the heels back then, right? Hard to remember...).
ReplyDelete'96 Goldust the character with '14 Goldust the worker would have been crazy.
ReplyDeleteNo, very true, but at least it felt a bit more natural than the last few embarrassing promos he's cut.
ReplyDeleteStill say the best thing is to turn him semi-Goldberg. No talking, just turn up, kick fuck out of someone, leave. The crowd are ready to go wild for him - all they're doing is cutting the legs out from under him by trying to make him sound like the Rock - there won't be another Rock on the mic for some time, the man could make the goofiest of goofy sound golden.
Other than maybe Kane ... who's gotten more out of a gimmick than Goldust?
ReplyDeleteas boring as some of his matches were (Undertaker), I don't think that character works if he's just a worker in 1996.
ReplyDelete96 was the best, but I wish he could move then like he could now.
ReplyDeleteTaker?
ReplyDeletewell obviously ... maybe this way - someone who wasn't expected to be around this long.
ReplyDeleteIf Borderlands counts, that's the last FPS I liked. If not, gotta go back to the GameCube and 007 Nightfire.
ReplyDeleteSmackdown last night was a much more enjoyable experience than Raw
ReplyDeletetwo hours and Daniel Bryan is the focus ... come on WWE, its not that hard.
ReplyDeleteCena
ReplyDeleteis Cena a gimmick?
ReplyDeleteNo, I know what you mean. I'm no art major either, but he does bring an amazing amount of depth to his work. Seeing some of them in person is unreal - the talent the guy had is astonishing.
ReplyDeleteOn another level, I also love Hieronymous Bosch, but more just because he was absolutely insane. Check his stuff out - you'll see a huge influence for Monty Python, for starters.
It's not even just DB...when Cena's not the focus, angles feel like they matter and have stakes because the other performers can convey emotion better and don't laugh shit off. Ziggler was really good yesterday and Rollins is such a good, greedy heel.
ReplyDeleteYeah, paint a single red circle on a canvas, pretend it has some deep, spiritual meaning and then sell it for thousands.
ReplyDeleteI dunno, count me as uncultured but that just seems kind of bullshit to me.
What a pussy Ziggler is. Guy leaves to do his own thing, and the guy who just got *punished* for trying to do his own thing goes out on TV and attacks *Punk* for it, while sucking up to the bosses. How embarrasing. What a *worm*.
ReplyDeleteOk, my other two "you hate WHAT?!" targets for internet abuse:
ReplyDeleteThe Big Lebowski and Firefly
Can't stand either of them. You in? ;)
Yeah, a lot of it is about confidence/conviction in the world, with a healthy dose of the ability to bullshit the hell out of it.
ReplyDeleteHowever, the art world being what it is, the MAIN thing nowadays is who you know and what art school your mum and dad paid for you to go to.
I dunno. The towel, the myriad of colored t-shirts, the jorts. It all seems like a giant marketing ploy for children.
ReplyDeleteLebowski is ok, and I don't know what Firefly is.
ReplyDeleteHow to piss off the IWC ----- insult CM Punk.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't be surprised if they had him say that.
ReplyDeleteOh I doubt brave creative Ziggler came up with anything himself, but still, how embarrassing.
ReplyDeleteThunderstruck getting beat :(
ReplyDeleteI'm not really upset by it.
ReplyDeleteThunderstruck's been thunderstruck.
ReplyDeleteHow ironic.
I hope Rollins gets the belt - he's been awesome.
ReplyDeleteHonky Tonk Man
ReplyDeleteDid you like Gone Girl?
ReplyDeleteStill pulling in good $$$ on the Indys ... all because he held Vince up for money at got a year long IC Title fued. Can't beat that, for sure.
ReplyDeleteZiggler will do well to have a run like King Booker.
ReplyDeleteI don't think that I can ever really consider Ziggler as anything other than a joke after this John Cena fighting for his job nonsense. He's just a geek.
ReplyDeleteDarn tootin'.
ReplyDeleteAye - it's amazing the amount of folk that thing everything he says is 100% right without question.
ReplyDeleteSaw someone having a go at Jericho the other day for saying that Ryback was a bit unfairly criticised, saying they'd so much rather believe Punk because he's not a corporate shill.
Completely failing to realise that Punk's entire existence is a shill for the business that is CM Punk.
I'm not a fan either.
