We are down to the wire and it’s pretty much anyone’s tournament now. Although the big gun here is Randy Savage, who has knocked off a former WWF/E World champion in each round of the tournament thus far and won each one in a landslide vote.

No longer interested. Jobbing the Greatest Intercontinental Champion of All Time? Illegitimate. You still sucked, Warrior.
ReplyDeleteHonky Tonk Man goes down?! Someone CLEARLY rigged the poll.
ReplyDeleteSPEAK TO ME, WARRIORS!!!
ReplyDeleteBOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteNothing against Savage, but he did have the easiest run to the semis. He fought against Austin, RVD, HHH, and Angle; none I would truly call great IC champs. In comparison, the other guys have knocked off the rock, honky, jericho, perfect, owen. and perfect.
ReplyDeleteThe winner of the Broken Shell Match goes on to face the winner of the Dead Guy Match!
ReplyDeleteIF HBK actually defeated Shamrock, would he have defeated perfect or bret?
ReplyDeleteYeah, he was the one guy who got taken out by the vote-spamming who actually had a shot to win.
ReplyDeleteHistory beckons the Macho Man!
ReplyDeleteI think he'd easily beat Perfect. Bret would be a toss-up. HartKiller09 would probably bounce from wifi-spot to wifi-spot voting for him.
ReplyDeleteDon't you love how this "dream tournament" comes down to matches we saw several times in WWF for real?
ReplyDeleteI voted Warrior, but it was easily the hardest choice so far. My reasoning: his victory over HTM is the most exhilarating mark-out moment the IC title ever knew, and as others have noted, he defeated the world champion as IC champ. Hell, more importantly, he pinned Hogan clean when he was IC champ. Savage went on to bigger and better things; his career was defined by the heavyweight belt, whereas one could argue that, his defeat of Hogan aside, the IC runs were the highlight of Warrior's career.
ReplyDeleteWell, Razor was a damn good IC guy but it'll be a cold day in hell before I vote clique over Hart, so that's a given.
ReplyDeleteAnd I've got to go Savage over Warrior. He had a longer career, and was just generally one of my favourites. I was even pulling for him in TNA.
The Mountie never wrestled Marty Jannetty. I'm just saying.
ReplyDeleteAs far as IC Champs go, it's pretty tight. Savage's reign is second-longest and he lost it in one of the greatest matches of all time.
ReplyDeleteWarrior's first win ended the longest reign and may have been the markiest IC title match that ever marked. On his second reign, he never lost the belt.
Warrior's win was a markout moment to the nth level. When that music hit I was just like "oh, shit this is ON now."
ReplyDeleteActually, they did. Quebecers and Jannetty/1-2-3 Kid trading the tag belts in early '94.
ReplyDeleteBut if they had a singles match, they would have had the first ever ****** match.
ReplyDeleteI love Warrior, but Hart vs. Savage is the utter epitome of what the greatest IC match could ever be. Meaning that yes, if they ever fought on PPV around 91-92, it could have been better than Steamboat/Savage was.
ReplyDeleteIf I c0uld show you an easy proven and guaranteed way to make $379 a day and more, working part-time from the comfort of your home, would you be interested?
ReplyDeleteIf YES! Then this will be the most exciting message that you will ever read,,,
-------> www.cashtime10.com
Um, those WEREN'T the Mounties. Their music said so.
ReplyDeleteFrom a kayfabe and booking standpoint, this is the explanation why Warrior truly was the greatest IC Champ of all time. That's what this tournament is about, so Warrior all the way.
ReplyDeleteIf I could show you an easy, proven and guaranteed way to leave money on the table I'd be Caliber Winfield.
ReplyDeleteMacho vs Razor in finals! Last thing I need is the poor workrate of Warrior or the sheer boredom of Bret Hart....
ReplyDeleteThe 2 main ways I voted was "could this guy main event a B house show or ppv as champ" and "was the title elevated during his run as champ"
ReplyDeleteShit, both of these are really hard picks for me. This is definitely the cream of the crop (Savage promo pun intended) and I loved all four guys as champ.
ReplyDeleteI'm gonna go Bret and Warrior. Wrestlemania VI is my first wrestling memory and started my obsession with wrestling, so I have to give Warrior his due. Bret's my favorite wrestler so I have to choose him even though Razor was a stellar champ.
I'm still holding out hope for The Mountie!
ReplyDeleteRockers vs Rougeaus. Jacques was an undercover mountie at the time.
ReplyDeleteHistory wouldn't have recorded it because the arena would have exploded the moment they locked up.
ReplyDeleteIt obviously is going to be hart vs savage in the finals.
ReplyDelete#TeamRazor
ReplyDeleteTo me, Razor is THE iconic Intercontinental Champion. The other three here were all great champs, but in each one, it was the springboard to greater things. To Razor, it was more or less his solo peak. And he won it SEVERAL times, dominating the IC scene for years.
ReplyDeleteRealistically at each point in the careers the only one that was true draw when they were the champion was the warrior. Based in box office, warrior should win the tourney.
ReplyDeleteGot to vote for Razor over Bret since he did more with the title and was more identified with it. Voted for Savage over Warrior because I enjoyed Savage's IC title run more.
ReplyDeleteMaybe he'll do a run-in for the final.....
ReplyDeleteShould've been the main event of WM IX
ReplyDeleteDamn this is getting tough...
ReplyDelete- Bret - Wrestled for the IC title in front of the largest legit crowd the WWF has ever had - 80,000 at Wembley. Had one of my favourite matches over the title with Roddy Piper at WM8.
- Razor - defined by the title and half of one the greatest IC feuds ever vs. Shawn, half of the one of the best IC title matches of all time at WM10.
- Savage - had one of the best matches of all time over the IC title, one of the greatest feuds with Steamboat and the angle when he crushed Steamboat's throat which maybe the "perfect" angle.
- Warrior - responsible for probably the biggest ever pop over the IC title by ending HTM's reign. Feud with Hogan made the IC titleholder seem a match with the Heavyweight Title holder.
Razor (by an edge) and Savage (by a wider margin) for me because their body of work with the title and the greater number of classic moments they created feuding over it.
Is the Mountie still in the hunt for a bronze medal in the repechage?
ReplyDeleteAt this point credentials are pretty much out the window. Basically who do we mark out for? And at this stage everybody was pretty much a player in my fandom.
ReplyDeleteBut Scott Hall is at times my favorite wrestler, that happened when he jumped the rail on Nitro during that Blake Beverly match.
And Savage is....well...Savage. They don't get any bigger or better. On a side note & completely irrelevant, I won my fantasy football league this year & thy team name is "Macho Madness" brother....Oh Yeahhhhh...so I feel obligated to ride Savage all the way thru this thing.
Savage '86-'88 version.
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI've got long sideburns and my hair slicked back I'm comin' to your town and I'm
... fuck it fuck all Warrior fans Honky Tonk Mania USA USA USA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Vote For Pedro
ReplyDeleteDid Bret Hart ever fight Ultimate Warrior? Maybe in WCW?
ReplyDeleteHe lost via ipponzeoi to Janetty.
ReplyDeleteBret main evented Wembley Stadium as the IC Champ.
ReplyDeleteYou liked Survivor Series 92 that much?
ReplyDeleteThey were both in that Fall Brawl 98 mess but I don't know if they ever came into contact with each other.
ReplyDeleteOh in fact they "wrestle" for about ten seconds in this Nitro tag main event. Sting/Warrior vs. Bret/Hogan. Huge lineup, lousy match. http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x1664v5_sting-warrior-vs-hollywood-hogan-bret-hart_sport
ReplyDeleteBret Hart has the worst record in Wembley Stadium Intercontinental Championship main events of anyone in wrestling history.
ReplyDeleteI kinda think being "more identified" with the IC Title isn't really a point in Hall's favor. It just means he never won the World Title. No guy that's won the big title is gonna be more identified with a smaller one (except maybe Jericho cause he's really not the big deal he thinks he is). Bret, Warrior, and Savage all ruled as IC Champ. Them making it further in their careers and being overall better than Hall shouldn't be held against them.
ReplyDeleteThis has to go to Ramon vs Savage.
ReplyDeleteBoth men made that title near main event status.
That's nothing but garbage, guyeena. Nothing but garbage, yeah.
ReplyDeleteI'm going with Bret and Savage
ReplyDeleteI'm judging it on their repective bodies of work - the matches, the promos and the angles. Razor went onto be a key element of the one most profitable angles in wrestling history which is none too shabby. But I still think his work was at its strongest when IC Champ. In contrast I'd say Bret's best work by far was against Austin between Survivor Series and WM13.
ReplyDeleteThis topic really is absolutely exhausted. I call for an immediate ban for anyone debating the IC title after this thing is over.
ReplyDeleteBret Hart-Randy Savage final coming up, just as I predicted!
ReplyDeleteDon't worry, whoever wins will be jobbing to R-Truth or some other guy no one gives a fuck about on Smackdown. If he's lucky, more likely he'll be jobbing on Main Event. Actually, that would be better because no one in the U.S. will see it.
ReplyDeleteKinda pulling for Ultimate Warrior - when I first started watching in late '88 I wasn't allowed to stay up late to watch SNME so I never really saw Hogan actually wrestle much. For me, the IC title was always the guy you would actually see on Superstars or Wrestling Challenge. As a 8 year old, nothing beat the neon colors, rambling promos, and insane ring energy. When I think of the IC TItle, for me, Warrior is always the first guy I think of. Wrestlemania VI legitimately divided the school yard lol and I was on Team Warrior!
ReplyDeleteYou shut your mouth. Or...you stop typing that. Yeah. The IC title was the first thing I cared about as a fan. The first time I marked out huge as a fan was Razor-Martel in October 1993.
ReplyDeleteThe Bad Guy or GTFO
ReplyDeleteYour fandom has many parallels with mine. I loved Hogan and, more so, Savage, but no one thrilled young mark me like Warrior, and when my tastes matured, it is, was and always will be Bret Hart that won my favor.
ReplyDeleteFor unrelated reasons I say Warrior should advance, but your argument for Savage is the best I've read. That would have been one hell of a program.
ReplyDeleteHow DARE you, dynamic_dave.
ReplyDeleteI freaked out so much that my friends were, like, concerned. I swear I could have walked away from that PPV after the IC match and been perfectly content.
ReplyDeleteWe must protect the legacy of the IC title. It's as if what Pat Patterson did in Rio doesn't even matter to an entire generation of fans.
ReplyDeleteFair point. To kids these days what Pat did in Rio might as well never even have happened.
ReplyDeleteI tried voting for Razor Ramon and the poll said it didn't register the vote. I tried again and it told me I couldn't vote. So the poll is rigged that votes for Razor Ramon don't register....
ReplyDeleteIt goes for Roman Reigns instead
ReplyDeleteScott isn't 2 sweet, I guess.
ReplyDeleteIt didn't. It was a fake tournament.
ReplyDeleteYeah I'm getting the same thing too
ReplyDeleteI just voted for Bret without any problem.
ReplyDeleteGuess that's not one for the bad guys.
ReplyDeleteIt's the weekend before the Royal Rumble, and on the Network live stream it's a marathon of Countdowns and Monday night Wars.... instead of, you know, airing a bunch of Rumbles to get people in the mood for the Rumble.
ReplyDeleteI mean, it's not like they have some strict schedule they adhere to. Why AREN'T they just showing old Rumbles all day?
Sounds like we need a verbal survey
ReplyDeleteI'm sure a smart ass will come along and say "just select a Rumble for yourself" but there is something to flipping on the Network and just going to the live stream. Otherwise, there would be no point in having it.
ReplyDeleteHow DARE you, Night.
ReplyDeleteBefore you vote for the Bad Guy, you have to say "Hey, yo!"
ReplyDeleteFirst four-time champion!
ReplyDelete"VENGEANCE IS MINE, YEAH!"
ReplyDeleteI always wait for Rick to pop up as Archie whenever someone rips on Uncle Caliber.
ReplyDeletePeople want to find any reason to complain about the WWE Network.
ReplyDeleteBret vs Savage or we riot.
ReplyDeleteWhy would people want to complain about the Network?
ReplyDeleteI'm now picking Warrior to go all the way because his theme music is similar to The Rockers.
ReplyDeleteI think we need Scott to rant on the final match (and maybe the semi-finals too)! ;)
ReplyDeleteThe choice between Bret and Razor was easy for me: Bret.
ReplyDeleteBut Warrior/Savage? That's like picking my two favourite loves. I'm seriously sitting here trying to decide and I kinda hate myself for leaning towards Warrior, if only because of the Honky squash and headlining WM as the IC champ. There aren't many IC champs that can say they main-evented WrestleMania with the IC belt.
Apparently the guys who did commentary on DSF knew that Brits were watching on satellite, and there's at least one PPV where they start talking in English for about a minute and say hello!
