I'm fine with running an IC tournament next, but I ain't seeding 64 guys myself. So you nerdlingers can work out the order amongst yourselves and someone can email me a list of seeds from 1-64. Then I'll run the tournament and take all the credit and ad revenue.
RANDY SAVAGE ALL THE WAY BAYBEE! OOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHH YEEEEEEEEEEEEEHAH!
ReplyDeleteI think Muraco, Savage and Perfect are all deserving of a one seed. I'm torn on Bret, Shawn and Razor for the final one seed.
ReplyDeleteI want to know if Abeyance~! will be in the tourney?
ReplyDeleteThere are 73 people who have won the ic belt; do the rankings by how many days would they have been champ so Pedro morales would be the top overall seed.
ReplyDeleteOnce you get to about 55th longest, do play-in matchups.
1. Razor Ramon
ReplyDelete2. Mr. Perfect
3. Chris Jericho
4. Honky Tonk Man
5. Shawn Michaels
6. Randy Savage
7. Bret Hart
8. RVD

64. Zeke Jackson
He did beat Chris Jericho for the title several times in 2000...
ReplyDeleteI made it a modern seeding to get it down to 64. I started with Tito's reign in 85.
ReplyDeleteI knew a kid named Nerdlinger, seriously.
ReplyDeleteThe Mountie!
ReplyDeleteBut that means there's no place for the first ever champion Pat Patterson!
ReplyDeleteI don't see Abeyance~! on this list...
ReplyDeleteShit, I forgot Steamboat. I'll edit him in and replace Chyna because I hate women.
ReplyDeleteRazor, perfect, Jericho, and Bret should be the 1 seeds
ReplyDeleteUm HTM?
ReplyDeletelol...
ReplyDeleteFor clarification -
ReplyDeleteShould the voting take into account only the person's time as IC champion/IC-maidcard level or subsequent pursuits also? Like Steve Austin - it doesn't count when he was World Champion right? And this is HHH before he was the boss's son-in-law?
Please Scott, I don't put in work for free.
ReplyDeleteGodfather number 1 seed.
ReplyDelete1-64. JTG
ReplyDeleteHe was also ic champ in the 2 man power trip
ReplyDeleteDoes that mean we are "independent contractors"? Can I still book comedy gigs on the side?
ReplyDeleteI vote against 20 posts on some lame vote for Netcop to get jewgolds.
ReplyDelete1. Pat Patterson
ReplyDelete2-64 -- A bunch of lovely lads from Rio de Janeiro
WTF? That's some issues you got there.
ReplyDeleteBesides doesn't Chyna have a spot based on historical importance alone?
It's a joke sunshine.
ReplyDeleteI think Orton needs to be way higher in the seeding.
ReplyDeleteI say you should make it easy on yourself. Wikipedia already lists the IC champions by total combined length of reign. Use that to seed up to 61. This then leaves three spots and 12 wrestlers. (Mountie, Rikishi, Road Dogg, Douglas, Albert, JBL, Luke Harper, Lance Storm, Billy Gunn, Jannetty, Test & Dlo Brown). So have a mini tournament to decide which three guys qualify.
ReplyDeleteThe mini tornument also means few extra clicks/views
Not a bad idea.
ReplyDeleteI like it. Three fatal-fourways for the final spots.
ReplyDeleteJust give it to The Godfather and move on.
ReplyDeletehttp://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_WWE_Intercontinental_Champions
ReplyDeleteThey have a list of total days so the first seed would be Pedro down to the 64th reign.
as long as Ezekial Jackson is in it, I'm game.
ReplyDeleteI like play in games!!
ReplyDeleteVAN DAM"S GOING UP!!!! FIVE STAR FROG SPLASH!!!!
ReplyDeleteNah, separate tourneys for JTTS and true jobbers.
ReplyDeleteI noticed him and Mero probably should have been higher but I left it because I like the idea of lower seeds being sneaky good title runs.
ReplyDeleteGood thing you aren't leaving money on the table with these tournaments.
ReplyDeleteSo if my calculations are correct, and they usually are I see Carlito winning this by beating out HTM in a very close finals.
ReplyDeleteWe really need specific seeding for something like this? How different do we really think the tag tourney would have ended up with something like that? Just throw the names in a randomizer and set the brackets. Who the fuck actually cares?
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to the Russo shows for just that reason.
ReplyDeleteI liked the random seeding, and I doubt very much that the outcome would have been any different in the tag tourney had it been seeded.
ReplyDeletePatterson merged the NA title with the SA title when he beat tbk's granddad in Rio.
ReplyDeleteJTTS and JTTJ? Jobers to the Stars and Jobbers to the Jobbers
ReplyDeleteAnd we don't need this. Honky Tonk Man is the Greatest Intercontinental Champion of All Time!
ReplyDeleteI put these seedings into a match generator and there were some interesting matchups.
ReplyDeleteJust want to throw this out there....knowing the values of the championships these days, I'd have given anything to see Santino destroy the Honky Tonky Meter and set the record.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I was actually into that. They seemed to just give up on it in favour of no plan at all.
ReplyDeleteWell, there have been 73 Intercontinental champions, so instead of picking the 64 guys to include, let's just pick the 9 we're excluding.
ReplyDeleteCREAM OF THE CROP!
ReplyDeleteSolid list, although Ahmed Johnson is seeded way too high.
ReplyDeleteBy the Ultimate Warrior. In 30 seconds. At Madison Square Garden.
ReplyDeleteIf anyone could win a poll by DQ, it'd be The Honky Tonk Man.
ReplyDeleteJacques Rougeau.
ReplyDeleteAlso, Jeff Jarrett. That one was a personal choice.
1-64: Ricky Steamboat
ReplyDeleteHe had to have been a dweebus.
ReplyDeleteBonus points if he ended up being a Varsity Quarterback, or some shit.
Arn Anderson for the win.
ReplyDeleteWhat's difficult about that is that you might run into gray areas (as you mentioned)....for example, do you count Rick Martel or Curt Hennig? They were champs in the AWA, but they never held the WWF or WCW World Championships.
ReplyDeleteA jobbers tournament should be done in reverse. The guy who wins the poll is the one who gets eliminated.
ReplyDeleteAlways remember Heyman saying he wasn't that worried when Public Enemy jumped to WCW because he knew they were really crap and would be exposed as such outside ECW.
ReplyDeleteOne slight change I would make is the play in battles should also be by day length.
ReplyDeleteExample booker t would face dean Douglas
Pedro is one; who is the other (curt hennig, Kerry Von Erich?)
ReplyDeleteWhen I was in Israel, I actually met a nimrod
ReplyDeleteI like it, especially the extra qualifying matches.
ReplyDeleteYes! I always wanted to see a tournament like that, I can't upvote this enough.
ReplyDeleteLet's have a tournament that only includes the guys that banged Missy Hyatt.
ReplyDeleteFrom a Kayfabe standpoint, Steamboat's a loser IC champ. Savage had him beat clean but the ref was knocked out, then Animal Steele interfered for him, then he loses it just a short time after to the goofy Honkey Tonk Man. He wouldn't get my vote even against Chyna.
ReplyDeleteSo only 15 play-in rounds?
ReplyDeleteThere's no shame in losing to the Greatest Intercontinental Champion of All Time.
ReplyDeleteBut his title win was "a miscarriage of justice, Monsoon"
ReplyDeleteCan this fictitious tournament final be in Rio to bring this thing full circle?
ReplyDeleteJust award it to Shawn Michaels. Tremendous reigns, especially his first one. Even as a 12 year old mark boy, I thought he made the title exciting and it was a title for good wrestlers who aren't quite World Champion yet.
ReplyDeleteIt's amazing that Steamboat was the shortest reigning Intercontinental Champion of the classic IC (1979-1993) era.
ReplyDeleteDoes the actually ECW title count as a world title ?
ReplyDelete1. Pedro Morales vs. Winner of Fatal 4-Way: Rikishi vs. Test vs. The Mountie vs. Dean Douglas
ReplyDelete2. Don Muraco vs. Winner of Fatal 4-Way: D'Lo Brown vs. Marty Jannetty vs. Billy Gunn vs. Road Dogg
3. Honky Tonk Man vs. Winner of Fatal 4-Way: JBL vs. Albert vs. Lance Storm vs. Luke Harper
4. Tito Santana vs. 61. Big Show
5. Razor Ramon vs. 60. Mark Mero
6. Ultimate Warrior vs. 59. Booker T
7. Randy Savage vs. 58. Curt Angle
8. Curt Hennig vs. 57. The Godfather
9. Shawn Michaels vs. 56. CM Punk
10. Shelton Benjamin vs. 55. Ahmed Johnson
11. The Rock vs. 54. Ezekiel Jackson
12. Jeff Hardy vs. 53. Kane
13. Chris Jericho vs. 52. Davey Boy Smith
14. Wade Barrett vs. 51. Chyna
15. Jeff Jarrett vs. 50. Steve Austin

21. Pat Patterson vs. 44. Eddie Guerrero
22. Ken Patera vs. 43. The Miz
23. Rob Van Dam vs. 42. Umaga
24. Randy Orton vs. 41. Ken Shamrock
25. John Morrison vs. 40. William Regal
26. Triple H vs. 39. Rey Mysterio
27. Christian vs. 38. Owen Hart
28. Edge vs. 37. Diesel
29. Goldust vs. 36. Chris Benoit
30. Big E vs. 35. Rick Rude
31. Santino Marella vs. 34. Curtis Axel
32. Drew McIntyre vs. 33. Ric Flair
There are some interesting first round matchups on this list.
Honky Tonk Forever!
ReplyDeleteThere it is, Scott.
ReplyDeleteFound a tournament to randomly generate match ups and one of them was Pat Patterson vs Chyna. I kind of want to see that now.
ReplyDeleteSavage/Angle
ReplyDeleteMichaels/Punk
Jericho/DBS
Wade/Chyna (He damn sure won't treat her like a woman)
Jarrett/Austin
Hart/Steamboat
Valentine/Piper
Patterson/Guerrero
HHH/Mysterio
Christian/Hart
Marella/Axel (KIDDING...)
Solid card.
64 top reigns by date; dump off Albert (he lost the title to Lance who gets in), and anyone with a shorter reign. Boom.
ReplyDelete1 Pedro Morales
2 Don Muraco

64 Lance Storm 1
This isn't my tournament, but I would say "No" to that.
ReplyDeleteMy criteria would be...the NWA Championship from 1905-1991, the AWA Championship from 1960-1991, and the WWWF/WWF/WWE Championship from April 1963-Present.
I figured we'd seen the last of the Nasty Boys after the tag tournament. Guess not!
ReplyDeleteKen Patera wins or we riot!
ReplyDeleteThere is no way top seed Pedro Morales makes it out of the first round.
ReplyDeleteI can actually seeing Honky getting quite far...as long as he's not matched up against the Warrior.
ReplyDeleteI can only hope Jericho goes out in the first round.
ReplyDelete"NWA Championship from 1905-1991"
ReplyDeleteYour timeframe is off. And sadly, my NWA book is at home, otherwise I'd correct it with confidence. There were TWO NWA's, one was never more than a regional board that made a couple champs, the other is the National Wrestling Alliance we're all familiar with.
Rikishi/Test/Mountie/Dean should not be too tough... but having to face Flair in the second round might be unlucky.
ReplyDeleteBarney Never
ReplyDeleteIs CAPS LOCK MAN still around? I miss his posts...
ReplyDeleteSo Taz, SABU, Raven etc are not former world champions.
ReplyDeleteAmong this crowd I see a lot Mountie supporters.
ReplyDeleteZiggler/Venis is fascinating for a number of reasons.
ReplyDeleteOne of the best theme songs ever. He also had a more memorable title reign than most of these guys.
ReplyDeleteThe sad thing is that his two day reign is more memorable than the reigns of the next three guys above him.
ReplyDeleteYeah, HBK's first reign is so underrated. I think he defended it against every midcarder on the roster.
ReplyDeleteI tell you what, let's say they are. Are any of those guys even in the same league as Flair, Race, Brisco, and the Funks? Answer: Nah.
ReplyDeleteLOL fine fine. I'm not Inspector 34 after all. I eat my BBQ Chicken with a fork and knife!
ReplyDeleteI considered making a Schiavone joke instead, but playing that one straight felt better.
ReplyDeleteI'm beginning to think Sid MIGHT not be playing with a full deck.
ReplyDeleteYou probably would love the idea of a reverse battle royal too wouldn't ya?
ReplyDeleteThey're great in the sense that they're not boring and every once in a while, something works. It's not just the slow, plodding death this was.
ReplyDeleteTreat this like the FA Cup or other soccer championships, random draw the entire way.
ReplyDeleteWe don't need no stinkin' seeding!
ReplyDeleteTwo tough broads!
ReplyDeleteThis might be overkill...but by my count there are 126 individuals who have held either the IC or US championships (79 US Champs, 73 IC Champs...26 guys have held both). So close to being the perfect 128 needed for a mega tournament...
ReplyDeleteTJ: The ECW Zombie passed away today. Dude was just 38. I'm sure someone will have something clever to say, but Lord knows, it's not gonna be me.
ReplyDeleteRIP
Ah. Ah. I get it now. I don't know why I got so excited to begin with. I'm no great champion of women's rights (outside of the internet) and I generally dislike gays, blacks and retards, so it is not like I have room to talk.
ReplyDeleteHe was already dead wasn't he? Bleh
ReplyDeleteDamn even 1 shot indy guys can't escape the wrestling curse.
ReplyDeleteTJ:
ReplyDeleteI check almost every thread on this blog. Almost. So...how the hell did I miss the post that let us know that PRIME TIME is now in the Network Vault???
This might take all the fun out of the tournament, but aren't we all agreed that Mr Perfect is the greatest IC champ ever? If not - name someone better
ReplyDeleteHe's handsome, he's brave AND he's strong!
ReplyDeleteRandy Savage?
ReplyDeleteBret Hart?
Chris Jericho?
It's only like three episodes, last I check. But Scott did make a big deal about it on a post.
ReplyDeleteI've seen it, that idea isn't as great.
ReplyDeletePatterson/Brisco v. Chyna happened on an episode of Raw before the 1999 Royal Rumble.
ReplyDeleteWasn't too bad.
Virgil, Kamala, Bob Backlund, Tatanka, Mr. Perfect, Hacksaw Duggan, Marty Jannetty... and that's just off the top of my head.
ReplyDeleteThe Honkytonk Man.
ReplyDeleteMain evented more shows than any other IC Champ ever.
This should be the thing that happens.
ReplyDeleteEERRRRTRTTRRRHH!
ReplyDeleteEERRRRTRTTRRRHH!
Meh. I might resubscribe for the WM hype, but with all the original music gutted, I doubt that I will be interested.
ReplyDeleteWith as quickly as titles change hands, if we wait another month we should be good, right?
ReplyDeleteI don't know, those guys were world champs as well. Feels like Mr. Perfect is just the personification of what an IC champ should be
ReplyDeleteGood shout.... I prefer Perfect though
ReplyDeleteDidn't one of them try to hit Chyna with a low blow?
ReplyDeleteBattle royal among the smallest reigns for the 64th spot, then seeding by total combined reign length seems fairest.
ReplyDeleteSeeding by cock size?
ReplyDeleteRaven held the NWA World Title.
ReplyDeleteI am sure that the body fat kept her internal temperature quite high.
ReplyDeleteOtto Wanz or GTFO.
ReplyDeleteWhich of Shane Douglas's title reigns was shorter: his IC title reign, or his NWA World Title reign?
ReplyDeleteHave we decided yet?
ReplyDeleteWhoever the IC champ was a couple weeks ago was pretty good, I think.
ReplyDeleteYes under the TNA banner tho.
ReplyDeleteRazor Ramon
ReplyDeleteFOUR as of today!
ReplyDeleteWe shouldn't get too attached to the current champion because he's losing it within the next two months anyway.
ReplyDeleteUltimate warrior is the only ic champ to main event wrestlemania while being champ.
ReplyDeleteLike anyone since The Rock has a chance of winning this (since Austin throwing it in the river is when the title died)... Mr Perfect, Honky Tonk Man, Macho Man, and Steamboat are really the only worthwhile options.
ReplyDeletePoor TPE. That's like their eternal legacy in the wrestling business- that they sucked ass and had to be carried by great booking. And they're both dead, so there's no fixing that.
ReplyDelete"I have half the brain...that YOU DO"
ReplyDeleteBoy hogan just didn't understand how to evolve during this period.
ReplyDeleteWhat was that part about avenging Wrestlemania VII about?
ReplyDeleteI'm strolling through 1995 ECW on the Network and think that was PE's best year in the business. Of course, going to WCW and WWF inflated their paychecks but not their standing as far as tag team ranking is concerned.
ReplyDelete
