Clash 18 is pretty great show if you haven't watched it. Except for a few short terrible matches everything else is very strong. Also I mean Rude/Austin vs Sting/Steamboat
David Stern is probably sitting at home, furious and red-faced, trying to determine how he could fine the Spurs for this if he were still commissioner.
The worst part about the heyman promos was Cesaro standing by him the whole time smiling and nodding looking like a dork waiting to get Heyman to start talking about him and that moment never really came.
Wouldn't happen for reasons stated below, but since when would Lesnar care about losing? Dude only cares about making enough money to live a life full of hunting and Sable banging.
I don't know, sometimes a well fought draw can get the fans to like both guys more. If someone had to take a fall, though, it should be Cena, obviously.
Yeah that's one of two Austin falsities perpetrated by the WWE machine: 1) That all three Austin/Rock matches at WM were main-events (the one at WM19 wasn't as hyped or as important as Vince/Hogan if you ask me) and 2) That Austin is somehow a bigger star than Hogan was. Fucking laughable.
"Battle of the Billionaires 2" sounds terrible. Nobody gives a fuck about Jerry Jones outside of that stadium. Donald Trump at least brought some level of celebrity and the sort of caricature that wrestling is built on. The Donald also had history with WWE, having hosted a couple Wrestlemanias in the 1980s. Jerry Jones is just some old guy who owns a football team that hasn't won anything in two decades. Even hardcore sports fans aren't going to care about him. I have no doubt Jerry is going to get featured in some capacity, but anything more than just "Hey, there's the guy that owns this place!" during the opening fireworks is excessive.
Ronda Rousey competing in a WWE ring is a great idea from WWE's perspective, but it has to be something more than Ronda vs. Stephanie. That one-on-one match would only be worthwhile if it was a complete squash where Steph finally gets what's coming to her after all these years. Basically, where she finally gets her Vince vs. Austin moment and takes a hellacious beating. Personally, I think it's a better idea to do Team Rousey vs. Team Stephanie, so you can showcase the actual talented Divas and keep Steph's involvement minimal and more believable.
Shield triple threat for the title would be cool. Just have Rollins the champ going in, have Dean Ambrose win the MITB Briefcase this year, with Roman Reigns winning another Rumble (this time as a heel?). Rollins (champ) vs. Reigns (RR winner) vs. Ambrose (MITB Cash-in, in advance).
I have zero interest in seeing Sting or Undertaker wrestle again, but if they must, then it may as well be against each other.
If Stone Cold wrestles one more match, it absolutely has to be against John Cena. There is no reason for him to end his 12 year retirement just to face Rock and/or HHH again. A Lesnar match would draw, but Brock seems poised to be a mega-face for a while. They need all they can get to sell out a 100k seat stadium: Austin vs. Cena, Rock vs. HHH, Taker vs. Sting, Rousey vs. Steph (in some capacity), Rollins vs. Reigns vs. Ambrose, Lesnar vs. someone, etc. probably gives them as good a chance as you can ask for.
They don't have enough tag teams to do a decent match, let alone a one-night tournament.
A lot of things would have to happen to get there, but I think they have to go all-in to fill a 100k stadium. One scenario:
- Stone Cold vs. John Cena - The Rock vs. Triple H - The Undertaker vs. Sting - Seth Rollins vs. Dean Ambrose vs. Roman Reigns - Brock Lesnar vs. Rusev - Team Rousey vs. Team Stephanie, '4-on-4' Divas Match
Part of me almost thinks they should hold off on a Shield triple threat, if only because it is going to be buried under all the "Legends" dream matches. Maybe hold off a year and do singles matches to boost the Shield guys even more:
- Stone Cold vs. John Cena - The Undertaker vs. Sting - The Rock vs. Roman Reigns (heel) - Triple H & Stephanie vs. Brock & Ronda (end the Authority once and for all) - Seth Rollins vs. Shawn Michaels - Dean Ambrose vs. Daniel Bryan
Yeah, if they had any intentions of making Cesaro a big deal, those promos could have actually built to it too. Do a slow burn where Cesaro gets tired of Paul hyping himself and Brock more than him, then finally snapping and challenging Lesnar.
Even if they were able to magically patch things up with CM Punk in the next year, I think he's smart enough not to come back for WM32. That card is going to be loaded with part-time "Legends" and he would be Just Another Guy, even if they did a super-heated Punk vs. HHH match or something. That dude is ONLY ever coming back to headline Wrestlemania, I think. He is smart enough to wait until they "need" him more and can finally get that top billing
If Dana & Vince are willing to play nice for a legit WWE vs. UFC crossover one-off, I think it would be amazing if they did HHH & Stephanie vs. Punk & Ronda. The promos, the legit real life heat, the crossover of the two companies, etc. The problem is, the storyline calls for Punk/Ronda to kick the shit out of Steph/Hunter and that just isn't happening on a WWE show.
The Frank Miller/Klaus Janson Ultimate Collections, the Bendis era, the Brubaker era and the Waid era are all A+ stuff. "Daredevil" has had some sickeningly good creative runs.
It's not that Lesnar cares, it's that they have so much invested in Lesnar (he hasn't been pinned since Mania 29) that when he finally loses it needs to be to someone who can use the rub moving forward. Giving that big victory to Austin wouldn't be smart from that standpoint.
"We find there have been a rash of falling deaths of late, which police chalk up to the recently concluded “Spider-Island” arc: the theory is people who got spider-powers in that story are web slinging when their powers cut out and they die."
Well, that sure starts the story on the darkest fucking note possible. Holy shit, Slott.
Also, for as much as I dislike a lot of Slott's ideas, he deserves credit for making the Sinister Six into big-time players in the Marvel U. They were fantastic.
It is weird that in a matter of like 3 weeks they gave up on him with Heyman. And the reason from meltzer was they were pushing Reigns and couldnt push more than one guy. ( for some weird reason). Then it was revealed with the ausrin podcast with vince he didnt have "it" and didnt reach for the brass ring. How can they decide that from the time he won the Armbar to a month later when he was separated from heyman?
I'll always say the same about Hogan that Kobe said about Jordan. He's thought of as the best (superstar, not wrestler for anyone about to get on my shit) because he did all the big things first. Got the big crowds, had the cross over appeal, sold the merch, and popped the buyrates. It is nothing against Austin, whom I love, but the wrestling we know today is because of one man. And please everyone save your "Oh but Vince could have put anyone in that spot and they would have succeeded". No, no, and no.
Mania 19 certainly has to be the one mania where the actual main event was treated like a red headed step child.

White Sox are about to be 0-4 to start the season. Fucking hell.
ReplyDeleteThey are a poor mans cubs
ReplyDeleteJesus fuck, not even a week into the season and there's already a Yankees-Red Sox series.
ReplyDeleteLooking at all of those empty seats in Yankee Stadium, I sort of miss the venom of the Sox-Yankees games from 10-ish years ago.
ReplyDeleteClash 18 is pretty great show if you haven't watched it. Except for a few short terrible matches everything else is very strong. Also I mean Rude/Austin vs Sting/Steamboat
ReplyDeleteI'm spying on you, Newo....
ReplyDeleteGood eye, sniper
ReplyDeleteYou shoot, I'll run
Apparently, if the Spurs beat Houston tonight, they can jump from the 6th seed to the 2nd seed.
ReplyDeleteOnly fucking San Antonio......
No one exploits the regular season better than Pops
ReplyDeleteAfter weeks of partying in college is time for the paperwork.
ReplyDeleteSeriously, this guy is a fucking professor when it comes to this.
ReplyDeleteKing Jong Un wants to build his presidential whore house.
ReplyDeleteWhat Vince was taking at the time?
ReplyDeleteHow he came up with this awful idea of HBK/Jose?
So that marks the second time Vader's beaten HBK clean in a tag match. And yet, no title!
ReplyDeleteDavid Stern is probably sitting at home, furious and red-faced, trying to determine how he could fine the Spurs for this if he were still commissioner.
ReplyDeleteThis thread is dead
ReplyDeleteThe worst part about the heyman promos was Cesaro standing by him the whole time smiling and nodding looking like a dork waiting to get Heyman to start talking about him and that moment never really came.
ReplyDeleteIf he can't have hair, no one can.
ReplyDeleteObviously this brings up Beefcake. Did he EVER get to cut the hair of ANY major star aside from Adonis when he kicked off the gimmick?
ReplyDeleteIt's the same advantage as Taker vs Cena in that you know Cena would have no problem doing the job.
ReplyDeleteIn a draw?
ReplyDeleteWay too piss off the fans.
No Cena losing is the only option and wouldn't hurt him one bit since he's so established anyhow.
It's why Cena's the perfect opponent outside of Triple H (but we've seen it before) losing doesn't hurt him one bit and Austin in Texas has to win.
Card lacks Big Show
ReplyDeleteWouldn't happen for reasons stated below, but since when would Lesnar care about losing? Dude only cares about making enough money to live a life full of hunting and Sable banging.
ReplyDeleteBut since when was it the main event of wrestlemania 19, WWE.com writer?
ReplyDeleteI don't know, sometimes a well fought draw can get the fans to like both guys more. If someone had to take a fall, though, it should be Cena, obviously.
ReplyDeleteBecause Austin>Everyone else
ReplyDeleteRock/Cena I was good, not mindblowingly great, but good. A better mania main event than many others and felt like one too.
ReplyDeleteTriple H vs Taker was good .
Sure in Japan or ROH. in the WWE?
ReplyDeleteNo so much.
That's a good point...it's not booking that WWE's audience would go along with.
ReplyDeleteYeah that's one of two Austin falsities perpetrated by the WWE machine: 1) That all three Austin/Rock matches at WM were main-events (the one at WM19 wasn't as hyped or as important as Vince/Hogan if you ask me) and 2) That Austin is somehow a bigger star than Hogan was. ReplyDeleteHypothetically, if Rousey loses in the next year, does she still do Mania?

ReplyDeleteShield Triple Threat would be awesome, and a rehash of the fatal fourway between the NXT girls would be great.
ReplyDeleteThe Man Without Fear and Born Again by Frank Miller are awesome stories. I haven't read much other Daredevil.
ReplyDeleteIf Dana & Vince are willing to play nice for a legit WWE vs. UFC crossover one-off, I think it would be amazing if they did HHH & Stephanie vs. Punk & Ronda. ReplyDelete"Glass half full"

ReplyDeleteYup Daredevil probably has the most consistent quality out of all comic book series

You act like being in NXT is a bad thing.
ReplyDeleteNo, because she isn't doing Mania unless she retires AND gets the go-ahead from Zuffa to pursue other physical sport ventures.
ReplyDeleteIt's not.
ReplyDeleteaustin vs cena after cena turns heel would work. not gonna happen though
ReplyDeleteWhich is why most of the dream cards on WWE.com are usually much better than the real deal - like the card for last years Wrestlemania, for example.
ReplyDeleteYeah. Conversely, how did they decide that Roman Reigns DID have "it" during that same timeframe?
