Howdy Blog O'Doomers!
Well another WWE Network Special in the books. I liked the early stuff with the tag match going very well with booking straight from the mid-80s in Crockett Promotions. Now the promotions in a spot that they could take advantage of...tag team wrestling is kind of strong right now. Kidd-Cesaro is a great team, very athletic, they have a good chemistry, they are extremely funny when they are allowed to do some verbal pieces.
I think some will say The New Day got over by accident but I look at it and they did the natural thing. A face act that was too clean to get over so they got even cleaner and people hate them more and now they can take the mantra as the pretty boy heel team. Similar to why I liked the Rougeaus so much. They were so shiny and fake you could see through them. New Day has a similar appeal and Xavier Woods gives them that good, annoying mouthpiece.
And you've got the Lucha Dragons, which people seem to like, and the Usos, who people don't seem to like as much anymore but they are strong, reliable workers. We need another team and this might be a good spot for Ascension to jump back in and maybe another team from NXT. If they could get six tag teams going I'd feel pretty good about the status of that division. If nothing else it's given people like Kidd and Kofi and Big E new life.
The rest of the show was fine for me. Big Show-Reigns was fun. The main event was a little too predictable for me and in my opinion a steel cage match doesn't work well without blood. Overall it wasn't a blow away show but there was enough good to make it enjoyable.
And now to the TV
Game 7 NHL Playoff Game between the Islanders and Capitals.
Game 6 NHL Playoff Game between the Red Wings and Lightning.
Chicago, Atlanta and Memphis try to close out their first round NBA Playoff series.
Nationals-Braves on ESPN
New Gotham, Bates Motel, The Voice, Dancing with the Stars, etc. etc.
My PBS show for the night is Dick Cavett's "Vietnam" which is a comp of old clips of that show as people would discuss the ongoing Vietnam conflict.
And of course RAW
Keep it clean!

So so far in extreme rules I've seen a no finish...a face win but a Heel actually getting the Stip win. and a super crazy over face team lose the belts......Got to kill that Chi-town crowd.
ReplyDeleteWhoa whoa whoa WHOA. Let us NOT put "All American Boys" against New Day, lol.
ReplyDeleteAtlanta's only up 2-1 against BK
ReplyDeleteI really expected the crowd to be smarkier. They even seemed to be pro Reigns at points. I was anticipating Wrestlemania levels of venom towards Reigns.
ReplyDeleteWell they see Vince do the opposite of what they want every time so maybe they tried something different
ReplyDeleteAnd Barclays will still be half empty tonight
ReplyDeleteThe crowd is going reverse psychology to get what they really want. I get it.
ReplyDeleteWhat I really liked about the New Day stuff is that it harkens back to the stuff HHH used to say about trying to find "What's the reason for doing this?" The initial abandoned heel turn was "Xavier Woods tells the other guys to stop being smiley and start taking". Not much better than most of the nonsensical "I don't owe you an explanation". Now you've got a heel turn that's more organic. It works two ways: if they became mega-over faces you leave them that way, but if not you've got the heel turn you were wanting originally.
ReplyDeleteNo Orioles/Sox games while Baltimore is bonzo gonzo
ReplyDeleteIt's always look bad at tip-off, but it will be full. This always happens at games.
ReplyDeleteI wanted to go, but torn acl on the 4 train at rush hour= bad news
IS Cena Rusev worth watching?
ReplyDeleteOh god this thread involves actual wrestling talk!?
ReplyDeleteLooking at the pics on the "news" networks is pretty depressing.
ReplyDeleteI still say we need to get a collection of underutilized, disgruntled workers called the Irritated Wrestlers Committee
ReplyDeleteFavorite saves from on-air botches?
ReplyDeleteI like at the Rumble(?) last year when BNB's podium stopped elevating, he started his promo with "I have brought myself down to your level to deliver some BAAAAD NEWWWWS!!" That was great.
Rioters slashing a fire hose to keep firefighters from doing their job = my "I weep for humanity" moment of the day.
ReplyDeleteAccording to Wilipedia, thr KotR2015 finals are already set?
ReplyDeleteNot sure how much of Raw I'll be watching with the Bulls playing and late series playoff hockey going on at the same time...I'm sure I'll be properly informed how Reigns really turned a corner on the mic and the fans all loved him for it shortly, lol.
ReplyDeleteHogan botching Silverdome and Rock and Austin killing him for it.
ReplyDeleteTeased spot that would have been the greatest thing ever if it actuary happened?
ReplyDeleteI say Hogan's piledriver on thr floor at WM3.
why did you want to see Andre die?
ReplyDeleteI've got to go with LZ Granderson's comment about the looters. "Really? You're stealing hair extensions? What the f*** is your problem?"
ReplyDeleteNothing to see here. Move along, move along.
ReplyDeleteRock's sunglasses flying off his face, pregnant pause Mankind walking over to pick them up and hand them back to him.
ReplyDeleteThe Rock's sunglasses flying off of his head and Mick Foley picking them up and giving them back to him.
ReplyDeletePhoto finish!
ReplyDeleteHe died from the bodyslam anyway.
ReplyDeleteGreat minds do think alike.
ReplyDeleteDamn I can't believe I forgot that one.
ReplyDelete"The Rock thanks you for that."
KOTR
ReplyDeleteZiggler vs Barrett
Stardust vs RTruth
Sheamus vs Ambrose
Neville vs Harper
Mark Henry jumping off the turnbuckle at a crowd in a MitB match at I think 24 or 25?
ReplyDeleteIMO nope
ReplyDeleteShockmaster's mask falls off, everyone breaks character to laugh their ass off, forcing fucking SID VICIOUS to make the save.
ReplyDeleteOne that always sticks out to me is Austin's mic cutting out in 1999, so he chucks it out the ring, terrorizes the timekeepers until they get a new one, and then tells Vince to hire some new sound guys.
ReplyDeletethanks a lot i'm already half way into this snoozer
ReplyDeleteAnd here's another: Vince's mic kept on screwing up and was going in and out, so it resulted in Austin grabbing it out of his hand and hurling it down the walkway. Austin let Vince use his mic and McMahon's face was full of fury as he yelled, "THAT WAS A FIVE THOUSAND DOLLAR MICROPHONE!"
ReplyDelete2 games for JR Smith. Cleveland gets a break there.
ReplyDeleteWas thinking 2 because it's the playoffs
ReplyDeleteIs RAW taped? The results up to the finals ate already on Wikipedia.
ReplyDeleteCleveland should have tanked yesterday's game after that foul.
ReplyDeleteOh I didn't know that. Not that I'm aware of. Unless they taped the finals already?
ReplyDeleteYeah, that's what I said yesterday, 1-2 because it's the playoffs and the defacto ECF, even more due to Love's injury. A repeat offender smacks someone in the face during the regular season, it's 5.
ReplyDeleteBarrett/Truth
ReplyDelete>Barrett/Neville > Barrett
Sheamus/Neville
THAT'S what I was hazily thinking of!
ReplyDeleteWow...that did not format as I hoped.
ReplyDeleteBut even the QF match results are known.
ReplyDeleteChicago series just got harder.
ReplyDeleteThese Baltimore riots tell me one thing:
ReplyDeleteTeenagers right now fucking suck. I say we start Battle Royale the current crop of teenagers, because fuck them, nothing of value would be lost.
Monica calling out Chandler for saying Blue Blazer Black!
ReplyDelete(You didn't say it had to be wrestling)
That's odd. Hmm. No idea
ReplyDeleteOlynyk suspended 1 game
ReplyDeleteSo probably not legit then. Got it.
ReplyDelete"You said black. Why would he want his blue blazer black?"
ReplyDeleteMy cousin is a cop in Baltimore... luckily he happened to be on vacation when this went down.
ReplyDelete"You messed up... You're stupid!"
ReplyDeleteYeah, WP's goofy in that you could go in there right now and put El Torito in the final against Eva Marie. It would be changed, but you could do it.
ReplyDeleteI kinda love the idea of a screw up that created a situation that is so much funnier than the original lines that they kept it in.
ReplyDeleteAgreed. I love how he fucked it up but they both just rolled with it.
ReplyDeleteWould not want that job for anything in the world. Takes an awful lot for me to side against the cops in these scenarios though. Still not there
ReplyDeleteSo, when Floyd broke Show's nose, do you think Show would have really fucked him up if he had caught him within a minute of it happening?
ReplyDeleteI try not to form a concrete opinion on it since you'll never really know exactly what went down... but a lot of people on every side of the issue seem to be behaving poorly... I'm very glad he isn't a part of it.
ReplyDeleteIf Show had been able to catch him, yeah.
ReplyDelete2-0 Lightning
ReplyDeleteYes. Show was legit pissed and swatted Floyd's bodyguards away like flys.
ReplyDeleteIs it just teenagers doing the rioting? I have on CNN, I think I see adults doing it as well.
ReplyDelete"We're tired of being treated like criminals so we're going to go out and act like criminals."
ReplyDeleteThat's the impression I had the first time I watched the footage.
ReplyDeleteThere was one on That 70s Show where Kelso jumps over a couch to talk to Laurie, but Ashton Kutcher wound up falling horribly and nearly tipping a table with a punch bowl over, which fit the situation and his character so much better.
ReplyDeleteMinor detail.
ReplyDeletethe 4 train in general is bad news
ReplyDeleteThat's a big part of things. He said/he said situations where reactions are based on years of real or perceived issues from both sides. Nightmare
ReplyDeleteHe mentioned it on his DVD as well that he was seeing red in those few minutes because Floyd didn't pull his punch properly... I have always pictured him ripping his spine right up out of his body like Sub Zero.
ReplyDeleteConsidering how chippy their series has gotten, I wouldn't totally doubt that they get in their own fight in Game 5.
ReplyDeleteSeems legit.
ReplyDeleteThat whole situation was so random. Just Floyd popping up during an interview to prop up his buddy Rey Mysterio, Big Show making his return after the match completely unannounced, and turning on Rey immediately...but man, when Floyd punched Show that was instant money.
ReplyDeleteIt really feels like there's nothing to get excited about tonight, given how forgettable that PPV was last night, but a King of the Ring tournament? I can get into that.
ReplyDeleteI know a cop who had this to say about the "rough rides" that apparently resulted in this guy in Baltimore dying of a severed spine -
ReplyDelete"We did that in patrol cars sometimes with guys who ran or mouthed off. Called it the 'screen test.' In the wagon, no way. All sorts of edges from the benches, metal bars they're supposed to be secured to...asking for something like that to happen if you do that stuff in a wagon."
Sucks button
ReplyDeleteThey really should just give up the whole EXTREME thing if we're going to get matches like we did last night. While some were solid and one or two were good, they're weren't exactly all that EXTREME. A chain match and a cage match without even a hint or threat of blood or massive violence? Bah.
ReplyDeleteThat was the worst fucking thing humans have done all year.
ReplyDeleteYeah. Floyd def. has the wrestling personality.
ReplyDeleteI'm really surprised Show didn't just sandbag him during the actual match and give him any sort of payback.
ReplyDeleteDodgers pitcher Brandon McCarthy out for the year with a torn UCL. Was 3-0 on the year, had signed a 4 year, $48M deal before the season.
ReplyDeleteThe only problem was whoever was in charge of writing the feud must've had absolutely no familiarity with Floyd and tried to make him the face at first.
ReplyDeleteBest hot dogs available at a grocery store?
ReplyDeleteI go Hebrew National.
What the fuck? Maybe don't do these "rough rides" at all? Even if the guy mouths off, so? Your the officer, he's the criminal, be the bigger man and just tell him to shut up.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I know. Just thought I'd ask him if he ever did that.
ReplyDeleteJesus H., that Jon Jones situation has gotten beyond fucked up.
ReplyDeletehttp://deadspin.com/cops-jon-jones-grabbed-cash-shoved-it-in-his-pants-a-1700508176
That's beyond a PR nightmare for UFC.
I've never seen a person thrown so far as Show tossed Floyd.
ReplyDeleteStop telling lys.
ReplyDeleteWell, honestly, as much as lots of bag on Show, the dude is a professional, and it was a WM match. I actually like the guy, especially when he's motivated.
ReplyDeleteWasn't bad, wasn't great. Rusev looked good for a minute and the Cena brought out the shovel
ReplyDeleteThe red band trailer for Ted 2 that was released today is quite awesome.
ReplyDeleteI've met him briefly before, very friendly and seemingly humble guy.
ReplyDeleteI only have the usual complaints about WWE so I'll just keep them to myself. One a positive note, I feel pretty good about where I am right now.
ReplyDeleteHaven't seen it yet but the Tom Brady but from the first teaser was great
ReplyDelete"Perfect spiral!"
Clearly they need a Straight Edge champion.
ReplyDeleteDidn't think much of the first one, only really laughed at Ted acted fucked up when being put back together then laughing it off with a "wouldn't that be fucked up?"
ReplyDeleteStay classy, Baltimore.
ReplyDeleteTwo players on my fantasy baseball team can't play tonight and I'm unable to fill the gap that they leave.
Good for you... any specific reason?
ReplyDeleteJust remember, he doesn't have a coke problem.
ReplyDeleteI have no problem believing that. Meet any wrestlers who were complete jerks?
ReplyDelete#firstworldproblems
ReplyDeleteTHAT is the real tragedy here... but does the media talk about it?
ReplyDeleteYea, but with crutches...I don't want to think about it
ReplyDeleteThey were calling it the "nickel ride" in the Daily Mail piece I read on it. And now reports say that the police have been targeted for retribution by several street gangs. While I don't sympathize at all with the street thugs....if the cops in Baltimore, or Ferguson, or wherever want to ACT like gangbangers themselves....they should be prepared for the gangs to treat them like a rival gang.
ReplyDeleteBall Park Turkey Franks. Ok, not real hot dogs, but I've lost 50+ pounds, gotta stick with what works
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear it.
ReplyDeleteScrew RAW. Let's all go back to the other thread and keep talking comic books.
ReplyDeleteWouldn't be the worst PR move.
ReplyDeleteAmen.
ReplyDeleteI'm not really fond of the "Please retire" chants...I'm bored to tears with how they're using him (and Kane), but I can't really expect them to refuse prime spots and upper levels of pay just because their boss is nuts
ReplyDeleteBeen clearing the dead wood out of my life. It really does make a difference.
ReplyDeletePerhaps they should.
ReplyDeleteArea Man Upset That Fantasy Team Already Sucks.
Neville wins in that scenario
ReplyDeleteNo. I have only met a few though. Mysterio is REALLY short... I am 5'4" and I felt like... well what other people must feel like standing next to me.
ReplyDeleteApparently there's a different name for it all over, basically.
ReplyDeleteGood thing the team stockpiled a lot of options. I think Brandon Beachy will help a lot when healthy and Ryu will be back in a few weeks. Not surprised about McCarthy, didn't look right all year, giving up about three homers a game.
ReplyDeleteAt this rate he'll be the only one left.
ReplyDeleteAWESOME on losing the weight.
ReplyDeleteBut, c'mon. You can't tell me they taste the best.
Trish going topless on raw
ReplyDelete....that'd be amazing actually and better than most of the stuff the 24/7 cycle regurgitates
ReplyDeleteI turned off my tv about a month ago and only watch sports on my laptop. Just walked past a tv and saw all hell has broken loose in B-More. It's really strange how disconnected I feel from the world, but it's also one of the reasons I'm in a good mood.
ReplyDeleteCarson Palmer approves
ReplyDeleteYeah it's not his fault. He's still an asset, just not a main eventer
ReplyDeleteSame. Crapsack world is why I try to limit my news intake to begin with.
ReplyDeleteI think Bray Wyatt is tremendously overrated at every aspect of pro wrestling, so let me start with that before I continue my breakdown of your MEGA wrong reply.
ReplyDeleteWyatt had a good (not great) match with Daniel Bryan at Daniel Bryan's peak confluence of talent/overness (before his body completely fell apart), that's...not impressive. He was having great matches with Wade Barrett. The crowd loved everything he was doing so Wyatt looked like a boss heel.
Wyatt's a guy who never makes his opponents look good. He can get vaguely over, but I've never seen a person exist a feud with him looking better than when they started. Even John Cena, who decisively beat him, felt like he was slumming it. Rusev did a fantastic sell job for Jack Fucking Swagger, putting over the ankle damage and generally acting like The Thoaring Eagle was worth half a damn.
Workrate does matter, because A) eventually there will be a match and B) if it didn't, Dolph Ziggler wouldn't have a job and Seth Rollins wouldn't be champion.
Rusev, removed from the gimmick is still a good wrestler, Bray Wyatt removed from the gimmick is Husky Harris.
I'll gladly revisit this debate six months to a year from now when one guy is at best a comedy act and the other is still a compelling main eventer.
ReplyDeletePlease, Bray Wyatt hasn't been compelling since NXT and hasn't been a main-eventer...ever.
ReplyDeleteRusev can slum it in the mid-card and rest on his work alone, Bray Wyatt is like if Kane were to debut at his 2007 level of ability, never to have a period of being interesting or the ability to put on a good match that wasn't dragged out of him by hook and/or crook.
And if we're basing talent on card placement, all praise be to Big Show and Kane.
Thank you for correcting me.
ReplyDeleteI've got some ex-girlfriends that Vince needs to meet.
ReplyDelete
