Following Smackdown tonight, WWE posted a video with an announcement by Booker T, cancelling the match between Alberto Del Rio and Sheamus, due to the attack perpetrated by Del Rio. Here's the video:

So after Sheamus steals Del Rio car on Monday for no reason and Touts/Twitts about it, he runs off into the sunset "innocent". On SD, Del Rio attacks Sheamus like every heel has done since essentially the inception of the business, and he's pulled off the World Title match.
If this is for storyline purposes, why would the f***ing heel be punished for acting like every heel has for the past 40 years in wrestling? Isn't that sort of attacks done to forward feuds and generate heat? Booker said "Del Rio crossed the line this time"... Well I can't imagine what he would say as General Manager back in '02 when HHH f***ed a corpse on live television!
If they are removing Del Rio again from PPV, why the hell they didn't think it through and went ahead announcing the match for the second-most important PPV of the year? It is the sort of stuff that could easily kill Del Rio as a wrestler in North America for a while.
What are your thoughts on this Scott?
Did anyone care about that match in the first place?
It's an angle. The match will miraculously return on Monday and we can be bored by it next Sunday as expected, fear not.
I'll just throw this out there. Sheamus got a wellness and they still don't want to job him so they write him off the show and run Del Rio vs Orton or something for the vacant title at Summerslam.
ReplyDeleteThey'll just throw Orton in there and make it a three-way.
ReplyDeletePretty sure its work but the end of smackdown was awesome. I'm a adr fan and I'm liking this feud.
ReplyDeleteI think we would've heard by now about his suspension, considering this happened on Tuesday.
ReplyDeleteI think Booker canceling the match happened "exclusively on wwe.com" which means it could have been shot this morning for all we know.
ReplyDeleteIt actually wouldn't surprise me if this was just some kind of stupid internet-only angle to draw hits to the website.
And yeah, it's gonna be a shitty 3- or 4-way.
WHO. THE. FUCK. CARES!?
ReplyDeleteIts fucking Alboreto Del Rzzzzzzzzz...
Sheamus stole ADR's car and trashed it. Booker T makes him apologize. ADR decides that it's gonna take more than a mere apology to rectify Sheamus's transgression against him. So he goads Booker T into makin' the World Title match on Smackdown. Booker T can dig that compromise and Sheamus accepts the World Title match for tonight's Smackdown.
ReplyDeletePrior to the ringing of the bell ADR pretends as if the authorities are here to ruin his title match by hauling the hooligan off to the pokey, however, it's all a carefully orchestrated ruse to soften up Sheamus for Summerslam.
Booker T in response to ADR's deception (I have my suspicions that ADR even filed a report with the SAPD to begin with!) Booker T punishes ADR for working him and Sheamus over by canceling the World Title match at Summerslam.
Now knowin' Sheamus like I know Sheamus. He's a fighting champion. He LOVES to fight. He's also a hothead that sometimes foregoes rationality for the sake of revenge. So I imagine Sheamus decides that he doesn't want the match to be canceled because the sweetest retribution would be kicking Del Rio's skull off his shoulders and denying him the title he wants oh badly. Naturally Sheamus demands he gets his hands on ADR, and viola we have our Summerslam World Heavyweight Title match.
Also Sheamus didn't steal ADR's car for "no reason" He stole it because ADR is an "arsehole" who's been belittling Sheamus for months. Berto's also Pearl-Harbored Sheamus numerous times. He even beat the everliving hell out of Sheamus by repeating bashing him with the hood of one of his luxury cars. If anything it's a nice use of poetic justice because once upon a time Alberto Del Rio used his car to hurt Sheamus physically and now Sheamus is using ADR's automobile to hurt him mentally, emotionally, and financially.
Seems like a fine bit of story-tellin' to me. Although I could do without the 90 billionth ADR/Sheamus match.....
Surely they'll turn it into some kind of gimmick match. They wouldn't give us a straight up boring one on one with these two again would they? WOULD THEY?
ReplyDeleteIsn't this the 3rd time this match has been cancelled?
ReplyDeleteAt Over the Limit it was changed to a Fatal Four Way.
At No Way Out Del Rio was injured and replaced with Dolph Ziggler.
Personally, I hope it's just a work and that Sheamus beats Del Rio at Summerslam and moves the fuck on to something else.
What makes me laugh the most about this...
ReplyDelete...is visualizing Vince going back and forth about whether he wants to market this match, and finally coming to grips with the fact that this match doesn't sell tickets.
He's gone back and forth so many times on it. He's worse than me at the video store.
MAKE UP YOUR MIND, VIN MAN, YA FENCE RIDING CLOWN.
I'd be happy if they merged Sheamus with the Daniel Bryan/Kane match, to keep D-Bry's streak of consecutive World/WWE PPV title matches alive.
ReplyDeleteDon't think you can make a Fatal 4-Way (the match) ahead of Fatal 4-Way (the PPV)...
Thats still a thing?
ReplyDeleteLike seriously? Fatal 4 Way? The PPV?
"If this is for storyline purposes, why would the f***ing heel be
ReplyDeletepunished for acting like every heel has for the past 40 years in
wrestling?"
well, just because. I mean, how many times did you see a tag team getting disqualified for breaking up a pin attempt before it happened recently?
I thought they scrubbed it.
ReplyDeleteAlberto Del Rio is what Vince envisions himself being as a wrestler. Vince is totally gay for Del Rio. I think he also enjoys the contrast of Del Rio's healthy tan against Sheamus' sickly pale skin.
ReplyDeleteOne person who I think would have a good tell-all book is Jeff Jarrett.
ReplyDeleteHe went back and forth between WWF and WCW between 94-2001 and was there for the NWO, Austin era and WCW downfall era. He also started TNA and could talk about the issues there.
He also knows that he will never be back in the WWE so he may not care who he badmouths there.
If you need four paragraphs to explain the story behind a midcard title match, it's not very good storytelling.
ReplyDeleteIn hindsight, it probably would have been better to put Big Show against Sheamus in the aftermath of his backfire win at Mania (or when the feud with Daniel Bryan was over). At least Big Show could have generated some heat against Sheamus during their matches as The Great White (what a fucking terrible nickname) would be the smaller guy.
ReplyDeleteADR needs to get away from the main event scene. I have faith in the guy but he needs time to grow as a character. Give him an extended IC title (or US title...he's beaten Santino enough to warrant an actual title shot) reign as a Honky Tonk Man-type heel so that fans can learn to hate him.
His manservant has more charisma!!!
ReplyDelete*Mulkey looks up as he completes Volume XXIII of his encyclopedic series "The Zack Ryder Angle: An In-Depth Analysis on Why it Worked Out in the End"*
ReplyDelete..... Crap.
It isn't. It was a one time June PPV.
ReplyDeleteScott's response was both funny and dead on.
ReplyDeleteHowever, would Big Show lay down for Sheamus? He essentially killed the title reigns of Jack Swagger and Cody Rhodes.
ReplyDeleteWho knows? It's not really a feud I really want to see or anything. My point is that it might have helped Sheamus' title reign more for him to face a giant than Del Rio.
ReplyDeleteHehe...Wight on White violence.... 8 )
I'm definitely into the match and I'm fan of adr. I agree this is a good feud and they are building it well.
ReplyDeleteOh, TAG.
ReplyDeleteHHHistory has a way of repeating itself.
ReplyDeleteMy bet is, they turn it into an Elimination Chamber match... and due to Sheamus's groin injury, he's now wearing Mongo shorts. Somehow during the match, Del Rio finally gets over, and has the crowd feeding off him, he seems like a true threat for the first time, the crowd buzzing over having a new World Heavyweight Champion... Brogue Kick (WHAM?) to finish.
If I read the description of the final segment right, then Del Rio is the dumbest heel in the history of ever. He has fake cops jump Sheamus, rather than actual try and arrest him, so that when he has the cuffs on, he's screwed and can't punch back.
ReplyDeleteProbably just be replaced with a three way or four way match. Orton doesn't have a match or an opponent that makes sense, and Rey not only doesn't have a match but has an issue with Del Rio.
ReplyDeleteIt's all a long-term, multi-year angle to get Ricardo over like Virgil.
ReplyDeleteI remember when I was scheduled to get my wisdom teeth out. I was really nervous about it. I went in the day of the surgery and they told me they were running behind and bumped me for two weeks. Two weeks later I had an exam and had to re-schedule. I have a similar feeling with this - it's not going to be enjoyable but I've been dreading it for months now and just want to get it over with.
ReplyDeleteWouldn't mind it at all if the match actually was cancelled. Del Rio does NOTHING for me and I'd just as soon as see him go back to working MMA matches in Mexico that nobody watches.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Scott that it's all an angle, though.
It's Bizarro World, where the nonsensical angles and illogical booking is actually NOT the company that employs Hulk Hogan and Eric Bischoff.
