FYI: Someone within WWE told me Lawler wasn't aware of Monday's angle until he was at Gorilla, and had a huge problem with it.
Don't know if that changes your line of thinking or not, but there you go.
Don't know if that changes your line of thinking or not, but there you go.
Meltzer's take on it was that everyone in the angle, including Lawler, Punk and Heyman, all signed off on it well in advance, so who knows for sure. I will say again that even if Lawler was bothered by it (and JR certainly seemed to be) , Lawler has done much, MUCH more tasteless angles in WWE alone over the years. Although you'll note that they're playing the "We're so EDGY!" card for this angle, but you don't see anyone out there making fun of their bullshit breast cancer month or the million tributes to the troops that air. The last Observer actually has a huge expose on the Susan B. Komen foundation and what a joke it really is, on par with the Jenny McCarthy autism nonsense from a few years ago. Not that we should be surprised, since most legitimate charities outside of Make A Wish want nothing to do with WWE.
Yeah I'm calling bullshit on this one.
ReplyDeleteIf anonymous e-mailer doesn't name a source...yeah, bullshit.
ReplyDeleteDude, I heard from top sources, that Cena is like...totally gay. Like, loves the cock gay.
ReplyDeleteWell the e-mailer is a former WWE employee, so he certainly could know people who were there.
ReplyDeleteSomeone within WWE told me Jesse Baker has been hired as head of creative. Expect John Cena to be executed live on Raw next week.
ReplyDeleteI call BS, because John Cena would be subjected to a ten year long "Beecher in Oz" storyline if Baker ever got the book
ReplyDeleteYeah, WWE is not good at choosing charity partners (the make-a-wish stuff excepted)
ReplyDeleteMy eldest boy is severely autistic and that Jenny Mcarthy stuff really bothered me because a) it was based on research done by a guy called Andrew Wakefield. This research was so flawed and biased that the guy has been stripped of his licence to practice medicine in the UK (children have died as a result of not having immunisations because Wakefield alleged a link between MMR & autism which was complete lies).
And b) it was really crassly done, talking about helping to find a cure for Autism. Which is just nonsense. You may as well have a telethon to find a cure for having blue eyes.. Autism isn't something we're remotely close to understanding, let alone cuing (if such a thing is even possible). It's something that seems hard wired into the make up of the person affected and these families most often need practical help developing strategies to help cope with their autism, not someone promising some snake oil that will magically make things better.
Anyway /rant over but when I see celebs and companies not bothering to do some basic level research on their charity appeals it just reminds me of this
www.youtube.com/watch?v=6BK-4lhsFll
This is why I like "Autism Speaks," because at least they're supporting RESEARCH, not a cure.
ReplyDeleteI stopped liking the Komen thing once they pulled support for Planned Parenthood.
ReplyDeleteYeah I always thought it was fishy that pretty much everyone pulled their support from Komen when they made that announcement... then all of a sudden here comes WWE with their Breast Cancer Awareness thing. I know they're all Republicans in WWE, but come on
ReplyDeleteAs well put as I would've. I have no stronger hatred for a celebrity than that blithering idiot McCarthy. She doesn't even just talk about finding a cure for autism, she's already claimed they've discovered it and her meal ticket, I mean son, is cured. No mention of the fact that autism is just a diagnosis, it's considered a spectrum disorder, or that the majority of people diagnosed are under the "Pervasive Developmental Disorder Not Otherwise Specified" banner which is basically just a catchall and doesn't indicate any specific behaviors. Good lord that woman boils my blood. I don't advocate violence against women but if I met her I couldn't stop myself.
ReplyDeleteThis anonymous emailer has as much credibility as meltzer, so it's pretty much a coin flip.
ReplyDeleteBut we know that Meltzer is Meltzer, so that kind of tips the scales in anonymous emailer's favor.
ReplyDeleteIf nothing else, the anonymous emailer has better use of grammar...
I don't care who signed off on it, it's still a crappy angle that gets no potential entertaining wrestler over.
ReplyDeleteWould you support Planned Parenthood if they scooped you out pre-birth? I think not. I doubt many people would die for 'the right to choose'. I'm no religious 'nut' but...who am I kidding no one is gonna change their stance on a disqus post lol. MAYBE a chain email, but not a disqus post!
Do you really want to have an abortion debate? I don't think you do.
ReplyDeleteBut . . . but . . . but this guy said somebody within WWE told him so he and his source must be 100% official.
ReplyDeleteRemove the ass-fucking, make it a few months instead of 10 years and do it with a plucky underdog instead of Cena and the Beecher/Schillinger storyline is custom-made for wrestling.
ReplyDeleteIsn't that exactly what meltzer says?
ReplyDeleteThat's kind of unfair. The Republicans were going to put Komen in a position to lose a lot of funding from religious donors. If you want to blame somebody then blame the psychotic Republicans who refuse women the right to make their own choice. Komen could have lost half of their funding.
ReplyDeleteKeep the ass-fucking, replace Cena with AJ in the Beecher role and put Eve or Kaitlyn in the Schillinger role.
ReplyDeleteIt was later found that Wakefield's "studies" were being funded by a company producing an alternative to the MMR shot. The autism situation really grinds my gears.
ReplyDeleteDamnit. If I don't know how Lawler feels about it then how will I know how I feel about it?
ReplyDeleteWell, that would explain VKM's obsession with him!
ReplyDeleteThe anonymous e-mailer is Hornswoggle. We all know it!
ReplyDeleteRight before he rags on the wrestling business, which basically made him a name, so he can kiss the UFC's ass.
ReplyDeletehow the hell did you jump from the Lawler angle to a pro-life speech?
ReplyDeleteAlso, aborted fetus' have the ability to support non-profit organizations?
and Republicans only do that to appeal to far-right Christians. It's a miserable game the politicians are playing
ReplyDeleteWell feel free to enjoy underage teen ass
ReplyDeleteWhy all the meltzer hate on this blog? I only have two problems with Dave, and one was that he knocked scott's book. (The other is his star ratings and I have discussed my opinion on that in previous threads) But Scott seems over it so I am too. The observer is the shit, and the radio show is awesome too. You guys do realize that Dave talks to everyone in the industry and has a better idea of what's going on than anyone else? Also he is usually right, how many stories has Dave really missed or gotten wrong?
ReplyDeleteWhat was wrong with Dave ragging on Scott's book? His books are filled with numerous inaccuracies.
ReplyDeleteYeah, they're better. Still have a slight tendency to big up the latest 'miracle' treatment on their twitter feed though
ReplyDeleteI wasn't surprised to learn that. I was shocked by the paying his son's friends for their blood samples so he could rig his results thing mind.
ReplyDeleteOne question: Why would charities want nothing to do with WWE?
ReplyDeleteHave they skimmed and pocketed proceeds in the past? If not, what's wrong with any charity partnering up with a show/company that's going to earn money for the charity, especially one as eager to impress the public as WWE is? I suppose more upscale, elitist-run charities don't want to associate itself with Rasslin' (or any charity that aids victims of abuse), but otherwise, I don't get it.
It's not like any of their money actually goes to cancer research anyway.
ReplyDeleteNailz was joining the nwo on the next nitro every single week for like two years. Ax had a heart attack which is why he left demolition. Butch Reed missed out on being ic champ because he was late. Benoit, malenko, eddy and regal were going to start feuding with the horsemen. Those are just off the top of my head.
ReplyDeleteAx had heart troubles, which is why they brought Crush in to do the ring work for him. So how is that wrong?
ReplyDeleteIt's not true. He had an adverse reaction to shellfish. Never had heart troubles.
ReplyDeleteAlright then, well he was wrong about some dumb rumors, compared to the millions of things he was right about?
ReplyDeleteI just gave you 4 things off the top of my head.
ReplyDeleteYes, four compared to the amount of things that he was right about.
ReplyDeleteWas the Butch Reed thing a Meltzer invention or one of those rumours that's just been around forever? I know Scott used to claim it and he got a lot of his inaccurate stuff from RSPW
ReplyDeleteIt's ultra dirty when you consider that they're appealing to these parents that might be having a rough time with coping with the challenges of parenting in these situations. Along comes Jenny and her band of morons dangling a carrot in front of them about how they're gonna find a cure and some of them really wanna believe her.
ReplyDeleteI don't blame the ones that fall for her bullshit because that's a mighty enticing offer. However, I have no idea how she sleeps at night.
Journalists aren't allowed to be wrong 4 times. They have to verify.
ReplyDeleteThe sad thing is that once you get a diagnosis of something like Autism you get surrounded by well meaning idiots who will constantly tell you that all you need to be doing is trying this diet / that therapy; whatever the latest fad is.
ReplyDeleteThe parents that get suckered in by McCarthy's bullshit would have been taken in by any one of the other 'miracle' cure sellers.
It's easy to make a lot of money selling false hope to people that are desperate sadly
Is the Observer really journalism though? Isn't it more the wrestling version of The National Inquirer?
ReplyDeleteAs much as people rag on Vince for desperately seeking public approval, wrestling is a punchline to the "common man".
ReplyDeleteThen he has no more credibility than this emailer.
ReplyDeleteyou jerk just spoiled the 1500th episode of Raw!
ReplyDeleteAnd other books that Meltzer didn't slag AREN'T?
ReplyDeleteIt's not like you can prove any of that.
ReplyDeleteThat's not a defense.
ReplyDeleteEvery promo is now required to have at least 5 "fucks" in it, but never where they would properly fit in the sentence.
ReplyDelete"Ugh I hate that shit, don't you know its fake"
ReplyDeleteBasically why I think
The Jenny McCarthy thing is/was disgusting
ReplyDelete
