OK, let's talk.
Kids are expensive and mine basically monopolizes the TV with Disney Junior all the time, so basically we've been paying $100 a month for cable service we don't use, with one exception. I of course watch RAW and other wrestling content, but that's about the only thing that's not easily available to stream online, especially with playmo.tv allowing me to watch US content. Now, WWE does the Hulu Plus thing, and honest to god I'm READY for a 90 minute edited version instead of the three-hour one, even though it'll mean doing the rant a day late from now on. Plus I can also do Main Event and NXT and such. However, even though I can watch Hulu with the playmo gateway, it won't let me sign up for Hulu Plus because I don't have a US credit card and my Paypal account is Canadian. So I'm wondering if anyone knows if it's possible for someone in the US to gift me a Hulu Plus subscription? I also found this site: http://www.buyprepaidcredits.com/htgiic-coupon-code/ which should allow me to set it up by basically paying double, so that might be my best option.
Anyway, anyone who can assist, thanks.
If you're done recapping RAW, then that's pretty much the last bastion of my interest in WWE .I don't mean that as a slight on you, Scott, as I completely understand where you're coming from. But honestly, your recaps were the only way I was even bothering to keep up to date with what was going on. I don't have a clue what's been going on Smackdown for months, if not years.
ReplyDeleteSorry man, all my hulu+ gift subscriptions went to Cambodian Princes.
ReplyDeleteYeah, a chopped up Hulu rant doesn't hold much interest from me either.
ReplyDeleteYeah I think if you want to retire from the wrestling ranting (sounds like between this and the TNa stuff the burnout is creeping back) that's fine. Youve been at it a long time and I've appreciated it while it lasted.
ReplyDeleteI'm okay with those plans of doing truncated Raw rants and maybe an NXT thing here or there. Don't listen to anyone guilt tripping. I'm in a similar position myself and am just starting my first week with the Netflix/Hulu Plus combo in lieu of cable. Luckily, I'm in the States and have easy access to it.
ReplyDeleteNot a fan of you paying double for Hulu, though, and most of us have a few extra coins in the seat cushions. I hit this site multiple times a day (lunch breaks, boredom, live threads all play a part). I feel like it's a really fun site at this point, and I'm in favor of keeping the machine running as smoothly as it's going. Not sure if anyone else agrees, though. You can put me down for a month of Hulu.
What's the monthly Hulu subscription cost?
ReplyDelete7.99 a month
ReplyDeleteThat link has it listed at $14.75. Is that wrong?
ReplyDeleteAlright. In honor of Bryan Danielson, I shall point out the elephant in the room.
ReplyDeleteYour kid watches too much television!
That's why he said he would have to pay double. Us 'mericans can get it for 7.99, but he can only get it himself through that site, which is that price. So, it's him paying 15 a month, or some USA folks chipping in and gifting him a month here and there for that lower price.
ReplyDeleteGotcha, thanks. I'm slow. ;-)
ReplyDeleteI don't see anyone guilt tripping him.
ReplyDeleteYes! More people cutting the cord is always a good thing! Down with telecomm!
ReplyDeleteThere's no question about it Scott.
ReplyDeleteIt comes down to money and expenses.
If you aint watching cable, theres no reason paying for it.
Im roped in for a year with Time Warner (at 121/month) for the cable/home phone (which we dont use)/internet bundle.
As soon as I am home, I told my chick Im not paying for it.
She downloads now and watches Netflix and got hooked to Amazon Instant Video watching all of the seasons of Grey's Anatomy.
Plus the draw is the Live thread and not your recaps anymore so why do it if there isn't an audience in commenting on it. Im sure one of the flunkies would be happy to do it for you and get the same if not more talking about depending on the person.
"Flunkies"...you're the best.
ReplyDeleteThis flunkie doesnt really care to recap RAW, personally. Its just too damn long.
ReplyDeleteI say that with all due respect. You guys are awesome.
ReplyDeleteI tried reviewing WWE, and it didn't work out to well. Plus I work Monday night and don't have much interest in watching Raw, and with my slow typing a review of a 3 hour show probably wouldn't get done until the following Saturday.
ReplyDelete"it won't let me sign up for Hulu Plus because I don't have a US credit card and my Paypal account is Canadian."
ReplyDeleteI suppose you could get one of those GreenDot or Rushcard things and use that, though I'm not sure if it would be logistically possible with the currency exchanges and such. You could just drive down to the States and buy one in person, but I'm assuming you have better things to do with your time.
Anyway, I'm willing to kick in some cash to keep the BofD itself going, if needed, but I could really care less whether you review Raw or not. I'd rather see more 2013 Scott Sez stuff, personally. I enjoy it more and it probably takes you about 10 minutes for every show.
I work Tueday evenings and could review RAW if I wanted to but usually I watch the shoot interviews I review before work and would rather do that than RAW.
ReplyDeleteThe BOD is doing more than fine, no worries there.
ReplyDeleteAnd the Hulu situation has been taken care of, to which I am always humbled and amazed that people care so much about my stuff that they would help out just to keep me publishing things to read. You guys are just awesome.
i second 2013 Scott Sez.
ReplyDeleteI would also like to see the flunkies go over your old material. scott sez style
that'd be neat.
that reminds me.
ReplyDeletei have about 75-80 shoots on audio if you want.
Over mine, or Scott's? I assume you mean Scott's, seeing as how anything I wrote was in the past 8 months. If Scott is OK with it I'd try a 2013 Adam sez thing, but I swear he said that it violates the spirit of the gimmick or something. Come to think of it, he may have been talking about him doing Scott sez thing on something someone else wrote, though.
ReplyDeleteAlso, "fuck you" in a joking manner for calling me a flunky.
Good to hear. Like I said though, I'm will to help if you need it.
ReplyDeleteI just don't have the the time for it. Hell, I gave up the ROH reviews (I just wanna say again that Kyle is doing a damn fine job with them now. Damn fine), and that's only an hour a week.
ReplyDeleteI know, that's some nerve! You're a hired goon if anything.
ReplyDeleteUse this website http://www.unblock-us.com/
ReplyDeleteA few bucks per month and you can sign up for anything streaming service that is zone specific. I'm in Australia and I have used this for a Netflix and Hulu accounts right now.
They currently have a weeks free trial and all you need is an email address. They don't take any credit card details up front.
"You know, you could have just called..."
ReplyDelete"I know, but telephones are so impersonal. I like the hands-on touch you get with hired goons."
Sounds great.
ReplyDeleteJust watched the Bad News shoot. That was one of the best I have seen. He didn't dodge a single question. The review should be up on Thursday
TGGI
ReplyDeleteHired goon?
ReplyDeleteScotty my man, one word : PIRACY
ReplyDeleteVipbox, Wyziwig, Frontrow, what have you.
If you feel really bad about ripping WWE off, buy some merch, or attend a house show. I dont' know, Vince doesn't deserve our money at this point.
Guys, *I'll* recap RAW from now on, okay?
ReplyDelete"It sucked."
There you go, that's my recap of RAW. Then. Now. Forever.
My 'puter fucked that up royally, so I'm just gonna assume it was ASCII art of me being the...
ReplyDeleteCANADIAN BADASS
My attempts at ascii art are beyond terrible, so I deleted it. So let's go with the assumption, for I see no reason why you shant be the Canadian Badass, even with the existence of Scott.
ReplyDeleteYOU'RE HIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIRED!!!
ReplyDelete/bizarroVince
So, you'd want to see me go over a Scott rant, and drop in my opinions on things Scott Sez style?
ReplyDeleteDon't listen to Scott. The BoD is hemorrhaging money. I was hanging out with Scott the other day, and he was wearing a barrel. So, you can send all your donations to my paypal, and we'll see to it that the BoD keeps going strong.
ReplyDeleteWouldn't BizarroVince be
ReplyDeleteyou're hired
?
Move to the USA. Problem solved. Try Detroit, plus we have Obamacare and high unemployment.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely.
ReplyDeleteIf its WRESTLING, then Im up for reading. Im not a fan of your ratings, your analysis is usually on point.
If its the 14,000th "who/what/when is your favorite movie/tv show/CD, then I check out.
"Touche LaFluer."
ReplyDeleteIt has not been that bad lately
ReplyDeleteDon't ruin the joke
ReplyDeleteI would not even be sure that would solve the problem. I think Hulu looks at your IP address too, and if it sees something that is not within the IP range of what is used in the US, it locks you out. So you would need a VPN/Tunnel to some US location as well.
ReplyDeleteGood decision. I went without cable for 2 years before having it for the last 2, then unplugging again 2 weeks ago. Between Hulu+, Netflix, and the other... ahem "free channels" on the net like ilive.to, and watchfomny.com there are plenty of options. If you want to spend $100 on a Roku there is also ustvnow... though you are technically supposed to be an American living overseas I am sure you could get around it... there are even ways to DVR live streaming content now, though they are in their infancy.
ReplyDeleteCable and satellite providers have got to realize that they can no longer continue to raise prices to astronomical rates and continue to expect us to stick with the same outdated methods of delivering content. People no longer want to be a slave to what time something is on, even with DVR's available, they don't want to pay for 500+ channels that they never use most of, they don't want to sit through a program that is 1/4 commercials because that is the primitive way it has been done for the last 60 years. It is time for consumers to use the power of capitalism to drag them into the 21st century... or replace them with companies that are willing to provide what they want. If I had the capital I would start an "ala carte" content company today and then figure out if my ceilings are going to be high enough for the cash I am going to be staking to them when people flock to the new era of digital content.
/rant
Technically it would only hurt him if you were a Nielson household. Plus with Vipbox et all, you still get commercials. Which is why the ad companies have zero interest in stopping that brand of piracy.
ReplyDeleteWay of the future!
Time Warner cable is the worst company in world history.
ReplyDeleteI think that's where playmo.tv or hola.org come in?
ReplyDeleteSo no more TNA reviews, down to a edited RAW review....hmmm Scott..I think you need a break from today' wrestling :)
ReplyDeleteHe could buy a house in Detroit for like $200 and drive there once a week, type up the reviews, then drive back home. Simple.
ReplyDeleteIf not for wanting to watch Yankees games in-market (MLB is the devil with blackouts), I would completely cut off my cable bill. Now, Time Warner in NYC has cut out CBS (which I never watch anyway, but still), so I'm paying the same price for a few less channels.
ReplyDeleteIs there a safe way to stream baseball games online without using MLB's online service? Cuz if so, so long cable!
I don't have cable either. I just use Haku Plus. The big Tongan puts me out with a Death Grip and I watch what I want when I want in my dreams.
ReplyDeleteLucky dog. What's the cost?
ReplyDeleteFOREVER!
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't quite go that far, with Apple and Monsanto around, but they can certainly eat many bags of dicks.
ReplyDeleteUntil Hulu or whatever adds live sports, I will have to stick with cable.
ReplyDeleteScott WE love ya, but if you start half assing (literally) your rants, and posting them later you'll be alienating alot of your fanbase. Your fanbase that buys your books and in a way kinda helps pay your cable indirectly. In other words dont do it, please.
ReplyDeletehulu plus? in canada? can you even use it? I thought hulu was USA only.
ReplyDeletewhat are you using for us access?
He's talking about using a proxy service to gain access from Canada, hence why it's going to cost him more.
ReplyDeletehmm Scotty, I use DDWRT router with VPN to the states, cost me $70 a year on top of all other services I think cant remember, gives me US netflix throughout the whole house. only thing is... I dont know about hulu plus, you said you need a US Credit card to get hulu plus? I only use mine for US netflix, dont have a hulu account. has gotten me all fox videos on mmaweekly so far via that.
ReplyDeleteyou just need 2 IPs from your ISP, that doesnt cost you more in wheat town there does it? I use Shaw cable. I'll get you hooked up, txt me when you want to talk tonight and i'll call you, I got unlimited canada long distance anyways. its Huy btw incase you didnt know.
Of course it was accessible. But did he find the crown acceptable?
ReplyDeleteHell between torrents and usenet, it's no worries. I can get RAW downloaded in about 40 minutes, and burn through it in about an hour. Even the PPV's can be burned though quickly, skip recap, replay, boring matches and misc movie previews. I bought every damn PPV from WM6 to WM 21, and only PPV I've bought since then was WM26, which I had people over and everyone chipped in. I only watch the stuff I'm interested in (DB, Shield, Kaitlyn, and a few others). There are also tons of streaming sites for TV and PPV, so really they there are lots of options if you know where to look. ;-)
ReplyDeleteThat's where a site like Blockless comes in very handy. I pay 5$ a month for it and I get US, Canada, Mexico and UK. I can watch any of the four Netflix sites, Hulu and the networks, plus online radio like Pandora and Last FM. Was the best investment I've ever made.
ReplyDeleteThere are sites that show the live games, that's how I watch Philly games. TVPC and Justin just to name two. :-)
ReplyDeleteI have known 1 DNS server that can ply all US program anywhere in the world just go to trickbyte.com register and see the guide, for only $2.99/month after 14days trial i9ts cheap but has a good quality
ReplyDelete
