Trinity

> Holy crap! The end of Trinity caught me completely by surprise. I'm now actually excited for this. Not quite as good as the Sinestro War set-up, but still, wow.

DC spoiled their own payoff last week because that's what they do now, but the end of Justice League 23 was still a huge nerdgasm for me. Although I thought the Cyborg thing was setting up something totally different than what we got.

Anyway finally a crossover deal with an actual PAYOFF that isn't a huge letdown and makes sense.

  1. Trinity? Personally, I was always a bigger fan of Traci Brooks.

  2. My initial reaction: They fired her even though she's on Total Divas?! AWESOME! Melina/Alicia Fox lady is next!

    Then I read the rest.

  3. This was actually pretty cool reveal. Gotta say I loved the Earth 2 Morrison/Quitely book so hopefully they can tap into some of that goodness.
Also, did alternate evil Aquaman always look like 90s over the top Aquaman?

  4. I'm excited to read Forever Evil next week. I was on the fence about Trinity War before it started, but I'm glad I bought the issues. Much more satisfying and coherent than age of ultron. I didn't read any spoilers, so the ending was a surprise for me. I've only been reading Animal Man and Batman on the DC front lately. Think I'll start picking up Justice League after this.

  5. There was never an evil version of Aquaman on Earth 3 before. It was always just Ultraman, Superwoman, Owlman, Johnny Quick and Power Ring.

  6. Eh, this wasn't really indicative of the quality level of Justice League, in that JL has always been a pretty mediocre team book for me. The Shazam backup series was the best thing about it for months on end.

  7. Im here for the Dougie/Jesse tete a tete.

  8. Agree on all points. I was going to drop JL after this issue. Now? On board again.

  9. They spoiled this last week? Where?

  10. The end of Trinity War would have been so much better had they not given it away a couple of weeks ago. It probably would have been a true "holy shit" moment for me, which is hard to come by anymore.

As it was, knowing the CSA were coming, I kept expecting something more from the ending than what we got. While a couple of the big guns were down, there were still a couple dozen heroes there at the end, against 6 bad guys?

Despite those two fairly large nitpicks, I did like it and I'm looking forward to what they do with Forever Evil.

  11. It was all over comic book news sites a couple of weeks ago, actually.

  12. Glad I don't read those then.

  13. Also, I think USA Today did a story on it, too.

  14. Jesse has very specific things he gets annoyed with, and I don't think Geoff Johns or the Justice League is one of them (at least, not to my recollection). Now, if Superior Spider-man were behind the Trinity War, plotting everything with Grant Morrison's Batman, we may have something.

  15. Then you never read the God-King "Geoff Johns" rants.

    ReplyDelete
  16. The takeaway here for me, I think, is try picking up some more Jeff Lemire books. He cowrote TW with Johns.

    ReplyDelete
  17. No. No I have not. And I'm a little scared, I'm not gonna lie.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Don't read that either. Just the comics.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Really can't argue with that policy...

    ReplyDelete
  20. Oh yeah. He hates Johns. Maybe not on the Snyder Slott level, but not more than a step below.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Hmm. Well. Maybe Jesse decided to stop giving attention to things he doesn't like?

    ...

    ...

Sorry, never mind. Don't know what I was thinking there. I'm a little hung over.

  22. I think he calls him the boy-king.

    ReplyDelete
  23. boy king
    god king
    ding a ling

    Who gives a shit? He's a nutcase

  24. Yeah, I love Lemire. I haven't been reading all of his books, but I love Animal Man and Sweet Tooth was one of my favorite books of the past few years. The first issue of Trillium was wonderful. Maybe I'll hop on JL Dark rather than regular Justice League.

  25. That's a bummer. At the launch of the New 52, I was psyched that we were getting an A-Level creative team on Justice League, but then I was pretty underwhelmed with the first arch and dropped it after issue 6. I was hoping things had improved.

Scott, what are your thoughts on Lemire writing Justice League of Canada?

  26. Off topic, but still comics related: Has anyone watched the Justice League Flashpoint animated movie? I just picked it up from Redbox on Tuesday and loved it. Looking forward to the Justice League New 52 movie that's coming in the fall.

  27. No argument here.

  28. loved it.

    better than the comics IMO

I always wanted to get his feelings on that Teen Titans Go! cartoon or ask him has he ever been to one of those Q & A's at ComicCon. I can just imagine security having to remove him one Morrison starts talking about new titles.

  30. Much better than the comics, actually. I agree. It compressed the story into a manageable event, without a lot of the side stories in the comic. Although, if the next DVD they're doing is the first New 52 Justice League storyline, they could have connected the two a bit better, since Flashpoint led into that in the comics.

Of course, it's probably best that way, since there won't be any follow-up on what caused the switch to the new continuity in the comics.I'm going to stop there, because I feel a rant coming on and I don't want to go all Baker on everyone.

  31. DC's Animated Films are almost always better than the source material. The Red Hood movie is a million times better than what the comics did.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I don't read crossovers. What happened?

    ReplyDelete
  33. They can thankfully choose to ignore vast swaths of stupid and confusing continuity to make a coherent storyline. Both Flashpoint and the Red Hood flick are prime examples of that.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I prefer the CSA of Earth-2 from Morrison, but the original/updated Earth-3 CSA is fine.

As long as Owlman and Ultraman go nuts on people that is. It's fun watching the the smartest and the most powerful members just unleash hell.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Eh. All Star Superman, Year One, Tower of Babel, and Dark Knight Returns are all better than their animated counterparts. Red Hood and Flashpoint are low-hanging fruit. There's nowhere to go but up.
