So I was playing Alter Ego today. It's a free, crazy, text-adventure life simulator thing that has a TON of cool little details packed into it and is festively written. It was actually made by a team of psychologists and is pretty damn nuts. I essentially did all the things I normally wouldn't and ended up geting kidnapped and murdered around the age of 13.
Shit's fucked up.
So - lets talk about alternate timelines and extended universes.
What are your favorite non-canonical stories in comic books, film, and TV? Have a special fondness for the Firefly Comics even though they came out after the show? Read Shadows of The Empire? Tackle Alter Ego and have a life altering experience? Share below!
Oh! And speaking of Bizarro worlds, 9 Innings: Pro Baseball 2014 is finally updated! Huzzah! It's pretty much the best baseball game out there if you don't own a PS4 or Vita. Quick games, deep strategy, real players, collectable cards - it's awesome! It even has a Franchise mode!

Well, technically, anything DC published before 2011 is now non-canonical and I prefer that far more over what they're publishing since.
ReplyDeleteRed Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare
ReplyDeleteSo freakin' good. I beat the hell out of the main game too.
ReplyDeleteSuperman: Red Son is interesting for the look at what Superman would have been like if he had landed in Joe Stalin's USSR rather than Kansas.
ReplyDeleteI liked that a lot. The ending of the book was a nice little mind eff.
ReplyDeleteAlso Superman for All Seasons is wonderful too.
Marvel 1602 and Earth X. Awesome on both counts.
ReplyDelete1602 underwhelmed me but I only had the first Trade. did the series go on?
ReplyDeleteI second Superman: Red Son. Fantastic story with a great WTF ending.
ReplyDeleteKingdom Come is probably the be-all, end-all of DC Comics Elseworlds stories. Great four-issue miniseries with probably Alex Ross' best artwork ever (and he's damn good, even if I think he's a pompous ass).
ReplyDeleteI don't know how much this counts, but the first comic book I got into as a kid was the Marvel Transformers series, which had a vastly different continuity from the cartoon (Grimlock as leader of the Autobots? Then Blaster?). The recent continuation may have fallen a bit flat, but the original run was usually pretty good.
marvel's "what if?" series
ReplyDeletewondering if anyone will answer with either friday the 13th part V or halloween iii
It did, but the first collected edition was the height of it, imo.
ReplyDeleteThe Batman v Predator comics. I'm fairly sure they're non-canon for both protagonists, but they're just too much fun!
ReplyDeleteSeconded. "What If" and the spoof "What the..?" were both fun comics
ReplyDeletei'd totally forgotten about "what the...?" good call!
ReplyDeleteThose were pretty funny. I was a fan of Mad and Cracked as a kid, so the "What The...?" line was right in my wheel house
ReplyDeleteThere was a good one where Spider-man is a little kid and sells all his comics or something, then KingPin gets all killed by some guy during a massage.
ReplyDeleteDoes "House of M" count?
ReplyDeleteHave you seen the fan film? Or that's with an Alien I think https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NhYjXlQE2As
ReplyDeleteALso here's a cool mashup of Robocop vs. Terminator:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VqME-TmYxkQ
although semi-canonical yet off the grid, i also enjoyed damage controls
ReplyDeleteprops to 'fred hembeck destroys the marvel universe' as well
Ugh I've tried to wrap my head around that whole thing and got confused. I started it right after Astonishing X-men and Wolverine talked too much.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed it, but I honestly have no idea what is considered "canon" at this point in comics.
ReplyDeleteWhat book is this? Sounds like I have to buy it.
ReplyDeleteThat tops the magical disappearing Bulldogs at the first Survivor Series.

I lived outside of Vancouver at the time so we got NWA World Wide via Spokane's awesome 5-hour block of wrestling every week. Other than that, nope.
ReplyDeletewith some luck this will get you to the Amazon page.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.amazon.co.uk/WWE-50-Bradygames/dp/1465419233/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1399405141&sr=8-1&keywords=wwe+50
I like how Ronnie Garvin was never acknowledged as a former world champion when he came to the WWF, and they proceeded to job him out at every turn.
ReplyDeleteThat was because George Scott refused to advertise the main event out of fear that it would dilute the house show business. It was pretty ridiculous but understandable if you were still in the old school mentality, I guess.
ReplyDeleteThere are literally no bad matches between them.
ReplyDeleteJust finished watching no way out 1998. That main event is a total ECW rip off. Good match though mostly thanks to Foley bumping like a madman and you've got to love Austin giving chyna the stunner post match.
ReplyDeleteI love that I can just randomly throw on wrestlemania 14. Chyna was looking hot as hell at this show and Taka vs the dude Lita came in with was a really fun spot fest I enjoyed but as far as actually being a quality match that light heavyweight match left a lot to be desired. Still a really fun match.
