As we're getting to this point in your reviews - what's the story behind Liz returning to wrestling in '96? It never quite seemed like she was actually enjoying herself during her WCW run. Did they just offer her a ton of money because they thought it would add to the Flair-Savage angle? Did Savage not balk at having his ex-wife get involved this way? Just plays as really strange.
Yeah, she was working retail and they wanted to get all the mainstream attention they could at that point, so they offered her a shitload of money to come back. Neither her nor Savage were particularly comfortable with the idea, but business is business. Even when they were paired together again with the nWo they were still icy with each other, apparently. I don't know if the Savage doc goes into detail about it, but I'm really curious to watch it and see what they say about it, actually.
At the clash of the champions, hogan cuts one of his "baby face" promos wondering which one of them would be taking Liz out that night and its already been proved that Savage couldn't handle her.
ReplyDeleteRetail? So she was like a wal mart greeter?
ReplyDeleteI picture her managing a jewelry store or something haha
ReplyDeleteClothing store, actually.
ReplyDeletenWo-era Liz was gorgeous.
ReplyDeletenWo era Liz was such a hottie. She was thicker than she was in her WWF days but that was a good thing. I thought she and Savage seemed to be fine with each other and didn't know they were icy with each other. At times they seemed to be having fun.
ReplyDeleteI could see Dawn Marie as a Wal-Mart greeter.
ReplyDeleteThe doc says nothing of note on this.
ReplyDeleteWell, not to be cliche, but they knew what was best for business.
ReplyDeleteI remember seeing some fan jump the rail during a savage match in wcw and he immediately goes over to her to make sure she's okay.
ReplyDeleteI kind of think he always had feelings for her, idk.
I mean it's the right thing to do regardless but still. The 10 year old me wishes they would of got back together in real life.
ReplyDeleteI thought it was one of those situations where they were divorced but still friends that loved/respected each other.
ReplyDeleteLiz was such a mystery. It seems like no one really knows what she was like but everyone speaks very highly of her as a person.
ReplyDeleteSorry, but there's be no way I wouldn't go into that store every single day just to say "Hi" to her.
ReplyDeleteScott, you should do a review of the new Savage DVD and matches. That'd be awesome, although the tag tournament thing had been pretty cool.
ReplyDeleteI had such a huge crush on her back in the day.
ReplyDeleteWhen did the Lex stuff start? God that locker room was a disaster.
ReplyDelete"It never quite seemed like she was actually enjoying herself during her WCW run."
ReplyDeleteIt never quite seemed like she was enjoying herself during her WWF run either. A couple smiles here and there....as per her contract. But nothing that remotely looked like true enjoyment.
It was also creepy listening to Vince's commentary about her during Savage's matches
ReplyDeleteEveryone says that Savage was super over protective during the WWF days so that probably wasn't too much fun for her.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I watched that with Hogan, Savage and Green arguing about it and thought "are they arguing over who gets to bone Liz that night"
ReplyDeleteKevin Sullivan once talked about the theory that Hogan got Liz hired and put her into the Flair-Savage angle because Hulks wife Linda (and therefore Hulk) was trying to get them back together again.
ReplyDeleteThe WWF lockeroom in the 80s probably wasn't a great for a healthy marriage. Trust is obviously important but if you had a wife that looked like Liz, would you not get worried if she's constantly around the likes of Bret, Shawn, Marty and Rick Rude?
