I know it's the LOD incarnation and not the Road Warriors...but based on the RW match versus the Faces of Fear from the last Nitro recap, I've lost all respect for Hawk and by extension Animal as wrestlers.
It really is a shame the 2 man power trip didn't go farther.
This is something WWE could bring back: 2 rivals who reluctantly team-up and completely just dominate everyone and the plucky underdogs end their reign.
I have been trying to base my votes on historical significance. Demolition is probably my favorite team ever, but the Road Warriors were legit main eventers in the NWA and were involved in more of the top storylines than the Demos were. It sucks that they had to match up so early in this thing!
Right on. I hate any team that involved Big Show, Kane, or Undertaker. Just ruins the tag team dynamic when you throw a singles monster into the division just to occupy him.
Maybe a long tag team title reign would have given him a reason to prolong his life. Would you have let your demons get the better of you if you had Murdoch in your corner?
You know, it's kind of odd that Darsow never had a stint in the AWA given that he went to high school and trained with a bunch of guys who did work there.
I was without work for 6 months when my former Co-worker finally recommended me to start freelancing from home... It was only after I earned $5000 in my first month when I actually believed I could do this for a living! Now I am happier than ever... I work from home and I am my own boss now like I always wanted... I see a lot of unhappy people around me, working the same old boring job that's sucking the life out of them day by day... Everytime I see someone like that I say START FREELANCING MAN! This is where I startedhttp://GoogleHomeCareerJobs/Get-StartProfit946.... THANKS FOR WATCHING ...
LOD were glorified journeymen. Demolition was the #1 team, in the #1 tag division of all time (Bulldogs, Harts, Rockers, Brainbusters, etc), during the #1 run in the history of the business.
There was a reason Demolition faded away after the Legion Of Doom signed with the WWE. They were shitty imitations of the Road Warriors that didn't deserve to be in the same ring.
He did stuff like that to pretty much every female in WCW. I don't think he thought women had any value at all in wrestling unless they're getting into cat fights and getting their tops torn off. Not that that's an unusual mindset in wrestling mind you.
I could've sworn that Lanny spoke briefly about this saying that Bischoff asked Macho if it was ok to bring Liz in and Macho was totally all cool with it by then. Not really sure tho
1) Ax and Smash could actually work. Well, Animal could a little, but point still stands. 2). By the time LOD came in, Ax was phased out, and Smash & Crush had NO chemistry together.
Bret had a bunch of chicks on the side. Back in the early 90's I was good friends with a "ring rat" that used to tell me about some of the girls that hooked up with Bret.
Don't u remember she got wasted and attacked Bret at a convention a few years ago? She was screaming she was the best pussy he ever got. Lol. Seriously
Hawk was a pretty good wrestler when they let him be. Animal was pretty much just power moves.. but they made it work. There was no more dominant team than the LOD in the late 80's.
Shit.. La Resistance are better workers than the Big Show & Kane, but no fucking way are they beating them..
Meh...I always thought Hawk was shit, and Animal bored me to tears. In any case, in kayfabe terms, I could see your point, but considering Big Show and Kane lost to the fucking Spirit Squad, well...
As nerdy as this sounds (and I'm sure someone here will question my manhood over this one), I wouldn't wanna see Liz objectified like all the other late '90's wrestling whores. She's Miss Elizabeth....the First Lady of Wrestling! She was almost motherly to those of us that were kids in the '80s. Leave the half-naked slut gimmick to the Sunnys and Trish Stratuses. That's beneath Liz.
One strange tidbit -- on an episode of WCW Internet Insiders (which was an internet audio show that ran from 1997 till 1999, sort of half shoot, half kayfabe) Hogan and Savage briefly appeared and had the following odd exchange:
Madden: "Hollywood, what was it like for you to take that step (turning heel), it's one thing to talk about it, but to pull the trigger that night must have left a lot of things behind for ya."
Hogan: "It did, it felt good. It's kinda like when Macho dumped Liz, he'd been wanting to pull the trigger on her for a long time, getting tired of getting beat up financially, so he pulled the trigger and really shot himself in the foot."
Savage: "And I didn't realize I was shooting blanks."
Hogan: "You almost hit me, I was right next to her."
I've heard this but I've also heard she was actually running a boutique in the Miami area. I doubt she was so broke she was working retail in the mall, but according to something I read it was Zane Bresloff that discovered her working there.
I'm too scared too look. I admit to having a thing for Dawn. She just looked like an amazing fuck. Not someone you'd want to marry, but just someone you'd want to have the dirtiest, nastiest, stankiest sex with.
So sad to get LOD/Demo in the first round, but I will always like the Demos more. I actually saw them first (didn't get much NWA up here in Canada), and loved them immediately. The LOD just never felt as cool. It doesn't help that I missed their most-dominant runs, and only saw them as the Stop & Start tag team that'd show up for a few months then leave again. The Demos were dominant for YEARS. Imagine any other era where the Hart Foundation & Bulldogs would have multi-year droughts without the tag belts.
(Bret pauses the TV, circles portion of the screen with a red magic marker) "See Liz, look, right here. Can you see how Davey's eyes are closed? He was actually full unconscious at point and I basically had to superplex myself. I'm sorry, is there something in your eye? Oh, cause it looked like it might be watering a little. Um, you ever seen a man win a world title with a dislocated finger? Well you're about to! And there IS a box of Kleenex right here, should you need it."
I liked MILF Liz too, but don't underestimate the power of early early WWF Liz. She was smokin. Her worst was probably late WWF when it looked like they were dressing her in things from Sapphire's wardrobe.
My favorite is the Wrestlemanias at Trump Plaza where the entrance ways are so narrow that fans on both sides can touch the wrestlers and during the WM4 tournament, she has to enter four times and looks completely miserable because fans are probably attempting to grope her.
Never heard this one. Can you explain it? If I were to guess it was when he died and she was running for senate and she was asked about him. Am I close?
I saw it a couple of months ago. It was really interesting, definitely. There are bits of it that were taken out of context online regarding the Macho/Steph rumours, so don't expect to find too much dirt.
It's good but to be honest, the most depressing WWE production I've ever seen. I've not wanted to watch it again since despite it being really high quality.
So disappointing in all honesty. Lanny comes off not looking good in this. The bit about savage locking liz in locker rooms and stuff and him sort of defending it was weird especialy as everyone said how obsessive and controling savage was.
I remember scummy Russo doing everything he could to get Liz as undressed as possible at every turn. I am honestly surprised that Savage didn't try and kick that shit-eating grin off of Russo's face at some point.
Links? I'm curious as to where you saw these "recent pics", as the last thing I saw of her was like, a head-shot of her realtor page or something like that.
It was also rather self-absorbed of him to read the poem he wrote for Randy's wedding, and his smug tone when he said "Not a dry eye in the house" was just gross.
Just HAD to put LOD against the Demos right away.
ReplyDeleteBlame the random draw. Had I noticed before it saved I would have moved one into the top bracket and the other into the bottom.
ReplyDeleteDemos all the way! Also, looking forward to Eddie wrestling himself in the third round.
ReplyDeleteI also said this in other tourney thing tonight:
ReplyDeleteOne thing this tournament shows is how so many bad to mediocre teams have won the tag titles
I know it's the LOD incarnation and not the Road Warriors...but based on the RW match versus the Faces of Fear from the last Nitro recap, I've lost all respect for Hawk and by extension Animal as wrestlers.
ReplyDeleteIt really is a shame the 2 man power trip didn't go farther.
ReplyDeleteThis is something WWE could bring back: 2 rivals who reluctantly team-up and completely just dominate everyone and the plucky underdogs end their reign.
Was the MOM title reign just because Mable was so huge that the current tag champs couldn't kick out in time?
ReplyDeleteGod I hated the Brothers of Destruction.
ReplyDeleteThen you hate America
ReplyDelete#America
That was at least the rumor.
ReplyDeleteI have been trying to base my votes on historical significance. Demolition is probably my favorite team ever, but the Road Warriors were legit main eventers in the NWA and were involved in more of the top storylines than the Demos were. It sucks that they had to match up so early in this thing!
ReplyDeleteAgreed
ReplyDeleteSame here. At a time when the WWF had a stacked tag team division, we had to watch those two stink up the joint
ReplyDeleteIf Demolition wins, I'm burning this place to the ground.
ReplyDeleteWho do you think should win?
ReplyDeleteDemolition had a much better run in WWF so I gave them the nod.
ReplyDeleteBased on WWF only, Demos win easily. I am trying to take the Warriors/LOD as one and the same though
ReplyDeleteThe whole thing? Steiners.
ReplyDeleteDemolition had a better WWE run then the LOD.
ReplyDeleteAgreed.
ReplyDeleteNobody even knew that Men on a Mission held the tag team titles until after they lost them.
ReplyDeleteTrue confession....I've *never* cared for the Road Warriors, even as a kid.
ReplyDeleteThey were mediocre WWE tag champs.
ReplyDeleteHawk was a shit worker.
ReplyDeleteI'm not voting on their WWE runs.
ReplyDeleteAnd? They were still fucking awesome.
ReplyDeleteI' m voting based on who has the sexiest buns.
ReplyDeleteBut it still counts, though.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I don't think much of their buns.
ReplyDeleteIt all counts. There are no voting guidelines here.
ReplyDeleteRight on. I hate any team that involved Big Show, Kane, or Undertaker. Just ruins the tag team dynamic when you throw a singles monster into the division just to occupy him.
ReplyDeleteJerishow to the finals or WE RIOT.
ReplyDeleteLike, for example, Daniel Bryan and Kane?
ReplyDeleteAnd you'll keep saying it until someone upvotes you.
ReplyDeleteMurdoch and Cade should have been a cornerstone of the tag division for years. But Kane and Big Show just HAD to have those titles.
ReplyDeleteSteiners had wonderful asses.
ReplyDeleteWhy am I not surprised you like Cade and Murdoch?
ReplyDeleteCade wasn't going to live that many years.
ReplyDeleteI'm voting on their AWA runs and neither of Demolition ever competed in the AWA. For that reason alone I voted for Demolition.
ReplyDeleteTheir asses looked great in those colorful outfits they wore in the WWF. Go back and watch some clips. Great ass sweat.
ReplyDeleteToo many needle marks.
ReplyDeleteMaybe a long tag team title reign would have given him a reason to prolong his life. Would you have let your demons get the better of you if you had Murdoch in your corner?
ReplyDeleteMurdoch would further enable the demons.
ReplyDeleteAnd who do Kane and Big Show end up dropping the belts to ? THE SPIRIT SQUAD, What a waste of a run.
ReplyDeleteFuck yeah.
ReplyDeleteYou know, it's kind of odd that Darsow never had a stint in the AWA given that he went to high school and trained with a bunch of guys who did work there.
ReplyDeletebut they didn't get the IC title and World title while being tag champs
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed what Show and Jericho were doing back in the summer and fall of 09
ReplyDeleteUnderrated unfortunate early matchup:
ReplyDeleteJeri-Show vs. Bookdust
I knew about Sunny but didn't know it was a common thing with him.
ReplyDeleteRead his book
ReplyDeleteYeah I know. I love both teams. The amount I hate big show now is the same amount I loved him as Jericho's partner. I voted JeriShow.
ReplyDeleteI was without work for 6 months when my former Co-worker finally recommended me to start freelancing from home...
ReplyDeleteMurdoch and Cade? Fucking boring as shit. The tag teams today are so much better.
ReplyDeleteWhile Liz was more important in WWF run, I will admit Liz in WCW was when she was at her hottest...damn that leather she wore...
ReplyDeleteI thought Sunny denied it.
ReplyDeleteRude? Everything I've read post death is that he was Mr. Family man.
ReplyDeletewell thats just like your opinion man
ReplyDeleteI just had to go with Demolition.
ReplyDeleteYeah, that's what I always thought too.
ReplyDeleteDemolition gets a bad rap as being Road Warriors knock offs when really they were very cool in their own right.
ReplyDeleteI can see Dawn Marie getting banged behind one.
ReplyDeleteDicks. For you!
ReplyDeleteYou upvoted your own post?
ReplyDeleteWasn't Vince Russo's number one priority in WCW to get Liz to lose a bra and panties match?
ReplyDeleteLOD were glorified journeymen. Demolition was the #1 team, in the #1 tag division of all time (Bulldogs, Harts, Rockers, Brainbusters, etc), during the #1 run in the history of the business.
ReplyDeleteThe last Demos vs. LOD match on the BOD was like 52/48 or something ridiculously close..
ReplyDeleteIf I don't agree with myself, why will anyone else?
ReplyDeleteThere was a reason Demolition faded away after the Legion Of Doom signed with the WWE. They were shitty imitations of the Road Warriors that didn't deserve to be in the same ring.
ReplyDeleteFuck Axe, Smash & Crush..
Fuck Demolition!!
They were having fun with the WCW universe, Tony Schiavone. I love it, hahaha.
ReplyDeleteLiz was afraid Bret would drag her to his hotel room and make her watch his match with Bulldog at Summersam 92.
ReplyDelete$6000 for a BMW?? Y'all bots be tripping!!
ReplyDeleteHe did stuff like that to pretty much every female in WCW. I don't think he thought women had any value at all in wrestling unless they're getting into cat fights and getting their tops torn off. Not that that's an unusual mindset in wrestling mind you.
ReplyDeleteHaven't read anything, but I assume they hooked up when she started managing him.
ReplyDeleteI'm no fan of Demolition or the Road Warriors...but had to give LOD the win here.
ReplyDeleteThat's about the last time I remember Big Show being tolerable. But Bookdust was fantastic--they get my vote here.
ReplyDeleteDo you guys seriously think one of the Moondogs, the Repo Man and Super Machine could beat the most dominant tag team of all-time??
ReplyDeleteI could've sworn that Lanny spoke briefly about this saying that Bischoff asked Macho if it was ok to bring Liz in and Macho was totally all cool with it by then. Not really sure tho
ReplyDelete1) Ax and Smash could actually work. Well, Animal could a little, but point still stands.

ReplyDeleteShit.. La Resistance are better workers than the Big Show & Kane, but no fucking way are they beating them..
Lex was married, with kids, and he still never hid the fact that he was dating Liz. Balls
ReplyDeleteSavage was such a smart dude in pro wrestling. Wish he didn't take so many steroids in the late 90s though
ReplyDeleteMeh...I always thought Hawk was shit, and Animal bored me to tears. In any case, in kayfabe terms, I could see your point, but considering Big Show and Kane lost to the fucking Spirit Squad, well...
ReplyDeleteThat's the current score now.
ReplyDeleteHave you seen recent pics of Dawn? She has gotten huge. As fat as sunny has ever been, probably more. Sad.
ReplyDeleteAs nerdy as this sounds (and I'm sure someone here will question my manhood over this one), I wouldn't wanna see Liz objectified like all the other late '90's wrestling whores. She's Miss Elizabeth....the First Lady of Wrestling! She was almost motherly to those of us that were kids in the '80s. Leave the half-naked slut gimmick to the Sunnys and Trish Stratuses. ReplyDeleteWhat's more Murica than Limp BIzkit ?
ReplyDeleteI really like demolition but no way man, LOD
ReplyDeleteMmm I'd like to be beneath Liz....oooooooh yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeah!
ReplyDeleteI have no idea who Lance Cade and Trevor Murdoch were, I just couldn't in good conscience vote for Men on a Mission.
ReplyDeleteOne strange tidbit -- on an episode of WCW Internet Insiders (which was
ReplyDeletean internet audio show that ran from 1997 till 1999, sort of half shoot,
half kayfabe) Hogan and Savage briefly appeared and had the following odd exchange:

Savage: "And I didn't realize I was shooting blanks."
Hogan: "You almost hit me, I was right next to her."
Savage: "Actually you were on top."
Yeah that was in his shoot. I believe he said he thought it almost worked and that they'd almost got back together.
ReplyDeleteI've heard this but I've also heard she was actually running a boutique in the Miami area. I doubt she was so broke she was working retail in the mall, but according to something I read it was Zane Bresloff that discovered her working there.
ReplyDeleteI don't know, but it was certainly my number one priority.
ReplyDeleteSunny circa-1997 was the best pussy that ANYONE could've gotten.
ReplyDeleteAgreed. Im voting on their Wrestlefest run personally.
ReplyDeleteHow dare you. You totally forgot being forced to be someone's personal assistant based on a match outcome she's not involved in.
ReplyDeleteThat's just beyond creepy.
ReplyDeleteWell, I don't think she'd put up much of a fight these days.
ReplyDeleteI'm talking since then.
ReplyDelete96is 97ish, absolutely.
ReplyDeleteWhats murdoch up to? I always liked him. Make him a wyatt ASAP.
ReplyDeleteI'm too scared too look. I admit to having a thing for Dawn. She just looked like an amazing fuck. Not someone you'd want to marry, but just someone you'd want to have the dirtiest, nastiest, stankiest sex with.
ReplyDeleteA) I laughed, so well done
ReplyDeleteB) What does that say about me?
C) You're gonna need a LOT of lube.
Yeah but those fucking go-go boots and tight jeans, though. FUCK. Total MILF city. Except for the not actually being a mother part.
ReplyDelete... I think I just became a huge Vince Russo Apologist.
ReplyDeleteSo sad to get LOD/Demo in the first round, but I will always like the Demos more. I actually saw them first (didn't get much NWA up here in Canada), and loved them immediately. Don't worry - Linda had no idea who Lance Cade was either ... though she may have met him once
ReplyDeleteFAT ASSES!
ReplyDeleteWhen you say U, they say SO? Really?
ReplyDeleteI had an even bigger crush on her front
ReplyDeletechurch, when you list them as The Road Warriors you have to take everything into consideration espec. their NWA run.
ReplyDeleteThe doc is weak; no analysis of major programs, for the most part. And Lanny Poffo is a defensive, self-absorbed, off-putting host.
ReplyDeleteWell....Savage was gay.
ReplyDeleteAnd miscarriages. Nothing beats a good miscarriage angle
ReplyDeleteI liked MILF Liz too, but don't underestimate the power of early early WWF Liz. She was smokin. Her worst was probably late WWF when it looked like they were dressing her in things from Sapphire's wardrobe.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite is the Wrestlemanias at Trump Plaza where the entrance ways are so narrow that fans on both sides can touch the wrestlers and during the WM4 tournament, she has to enter four times and looks completely miserable because fans are probably attempting to grope her.
ReplyDeleteSunny days
ReplyDeleteSuperstar Billy Graham's only memorable call:
ReplyDelete"SHE TOOK OFF HER DRESS!"
Isn't it ironic that the guy who's spouts that phrase has the most petty, business-preventing, grudges of anyone (Punk, Angle, Chyna)
ReplyDeleteNever heard this one. Can you explain it? If I were to guess it was when he died and she was running for senate and she was asked about him. Am I close?
ReplyDeleteLiz looked so good in the WWF and then just looked like a scary old lady at a cougar bar in WCW.
ReplyDeleteBummer. I got it for Christmas (along with the Paul Heyman blu-ray) and have yet to watch it. I'm sure it's still good stuff though.
ReplyDeleteWho didn't?
ReplyDeleteYet, her moments of true emotion(Wrestlemania IV and VII) come off as that much more genuine because of it.
ReplyDeleteI saw it a couple of months ago. It was really interesting, definitely. There are bits of it that were taken out of context online regarding the Macho/Steph rumours, so don't expect to find too much dirt.
ReplyDeleteIt's good but to be honest, the most depressing WWE production I've ever seen. I've not wanted to watch it again since despite it being really high quality.
Nothing good can come from working closely with your ex-wife everyday
ReplyDeleteAgreed, really weak on his WCW stuff, I was disappointed.
ReplyDeleteSo disappointing in all honesty. Lanny comes off not looking good in this. The bit about savage locking liz in locker rooms and stuff and him sort of defending it was weird especialy as everyone said how obsessive and controling savage was.
ReplyDeleteI remember scummy Russo doing everything he could to get Liz as undressed as possible at every turn. I am honestly surprised that Savage didn't try and kick that shit-eating grin off of Russo's face at some point.
ReplyDeleteExcept rape or necrophilia! Just ask good ol' HHH!
ReplyDeleteDepressing? Because you miss Macho or was it something specific? Was it a downer of a doc in tone overall or something?
ReplyDeleteLinks? I'm curious as to where you saw these "recent pics", as the last thing I saw of her was like, a head-shot of her realtor page or something like that.
ReplyDeleteGot it in one
ReplyDeleteHe died in the midst of her senate run and she basically swerved it with a "who him?" Response
The tone. There's a lot of "Just when he had found happiness..." throughout, whether about Liz, or his last wife etc.
ReplyDeleteDid she hook up with Luger before or after she became his manager/valet?
ReplyDeleteShe looked so bad at WM7, that I had to look twice to make sure it was her
ReplyDeleteI think Pat Patterson tells the story that he had to help escort her to the ring because the aisle was so narrow
ReplyDeleteShe was married briefly from 96-97 to a Miami lawyer
ReplyDeleteIt was also rather self-absorbed of him to read the poem he wrote for Randy's wedding, and his smug tone when he said "Not a dry eye in the house" was just gross.
ReplyDeleteNo real discussion of his programs with Warrior or Roberts, either.
ReplyDelete
