CM Punk is back! Well, writing comics anyway. This week, the former WWE Champion provides a story for the first issue of DC/Vertigo's Strange Sports Stories anthology. Punk joins Brian Azzarello, Paul Pope, Gilbert Hernandez and others for the first of four issues.
Also this week, Deadpool guest stars in Hulk No. 13, while Marvel's onslaught of Star Wars comics continues with Princess Leia No. 2.
On the DC side, we have the final issues of Batwoman, Green Lantern: New Guardians, Trinity of Sin, Red Hood and the Outlaws and Supergirl as the road to Convergence and June's mini-reboot rolls on.
My downloads this week include Teen Titans (with the return of Superboy), Superman, Batman/Superman, Supergirl (which has also featured the return of Superboy in recent issues), along with the three DC weeklies.
Comics are, of course, available at your local comic shop or for download online.
Also this week, Community returned yesterday with two episodes posted to Yahoo! Screen, a new episode of Powers on PlayStation Plus, new Flash and Agents of Shield and the debut of iZombie, based on the Vertigo comic, last night, with a new Arrow tonight.
You know, outside of the actual comics, it's a pretty good time to be a comics fan, don't you think?

Thought I had this scheduled to post much earlier. Still getting used to the system, I guess.
ReplyDeleteIts on Mountain Time Zone
ReplyDeleteYup, caught that when I went to schedule the post. Still had to do it manually.
ReplyDeleteI've actually only got batman eternal coming out this week.
ReplyDeleteIs the Powers show any good?
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed the episodes they posted last week. So far the character building and world building has been done well, with a good premise to (hopefully) carry out the rest of the season.
ReplyDeleteThis week for me, not as big as last week at least (still not caught up on reading through them yet):
ReplyDeleteTeenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #44
Transformers #39
The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl #3
Silk #2
Amazing Spider-Man #16.1
Hulk #13 (Not in pulls but picking up for the Deadpool appearance)
Nothing for me this week, though I ordered the fourth Captain America omnibus of Ed Brubaker's run (the stuff following Reborn). Won't be here for about a week or two.
ReplyDeleteSpent some time this afternoon playing Lego Batman 3, trying to do the races on Oa. I am terrible at doing the races in Lego Batman 3, and I'm still just over 50 percent completed.
ReplyDeleteSmall week for me. Just Buffy S10 #13, GL: New Guardians #40 and Squirrel Girl #3, which was easily the book of the week. And the second Ms. Marvel trade, as well.
ReplyDeleteThey using any of the old storylines for the beginning?
ReplyDeleteThey seem to be using bits and pieces of the comics stories (at least what I've read of them) to build the TV show world.
ReplyDeleteI'd actually argue it's a great time to be a comics fan in the actual comics too. There's never been more variety, more types of comics being published at a high level. Even if superhero stuff doesn't appeal to you right now, Image and Vertigo are churning out wonderful stuff.
ReplyDeleteAnd in TV-land, yeah, things are pretty great. Flash was unbelievably great last night.
Beto Hernandez and Punk in the same comic? Amazing!
ReplyDeleteAlso, the new Community episodes were very good.
ReplyDeleteI thought episode 1 was fantastic, but the second episode, while still good, was a bit of a drop in quality.Hopefully the rest of the episodes level off so the season doesn't come off as uneven.

ReplyDeleteThis sounds like what I say about Indy wrestling vs wwe today. Reminds me of that good time to be a fan thread some weeks back.
So better than the gas leak season?
ReplyDeleteI got TMNT, The Strange Sports anthology (punk's story isn't in issue 1) the new Mignola Frankenstein book and 3 trades. I got the 2nd massive Usagi Yojimbo book, Prophet volume 4 (thought it came out last week) and an ogn called Sexcastle from Image, which looks amazing. It's an homage to 80s action movies drawn by Kyle Starks and I think I'm going to love it. Pretty expensive week for me. My shop owner was pleased.
ReplyDeleteThere's so many good comics out there right now, no matter what you're into. My pull list is getting out of hand to be honest, but there's just so much good shit.
ReplyDeleteHOW ARE WE NOT FUCKING TALKING ABOUT THE FLASH?!? OH MY GOD!
ReplyDeleteIt was amazing. Arguably the best episode yet. Tom Cavanagh is KILLING. IT.
