Scott,
Long timer. I was actually the guy who compared Adolph Hitler the painter to Benoit. That made it into your book.
In any event, just joined the Network tonite and checked out the 1994 Survivor Series. That night I was pissed, but looking back, good lord was heel champion Bob Backlund the bee's knees. Why did Vince pull that trigger only to switch to Diesel days later? Was Nash the plan all along? Why blow off Backlund so quick when he was an obvious hated heel?
Nash was definitely the plan all along. Vince specifically wanted a guy for him to squash in 8 seconds and obviously Bret wasn't going along with that, so Backlund was the guy picked. Now why they had to rush from Backlund to Nash so quickly is another thing entirely, because Bob still had pretty good heat going and could have carried it until Royal Rumble at least. They could have super-duper-copied Hogan's introduction by setting up a rematch with Backlund v. Bret at the Rumble, only for Bret to get injured by someone at the show and Diesel taking his place as a surprise challenger.
I think he wanted MSG as the place to really parallel Hogan. Also the bait and switch on PPV with Bret to Diesel may not sit very well with the fans.
ReplyDeleteMeltzer also claimed Reign's family was pissed he didn't win, which turned out to be a lie according to Michael Hayes.
ReplyDeleteIt's Meltzer just guessing or does he know for sure of WWE's WM32 plans?
I know I'm still on the outside her but I call BS on the Rousey thing. Sure she might be at Mania and involved with the Rock in some way but She will still be under UFC contract at the time of mania 32 and Dana has to realize there is not much upside for his biggest star "The Baddest Woman on the planet!" to pretend to get beat up by ....Stephanie god damn McMahon.
ReplyDeleteIt was a dumb idea. Bret-Diesel did nothing for the new champion and killed his heat. If they even just gave Diesel the title match at the Rumble and he beat Backlund it would have gotten him over huge, instead of showing amateur cam of the win.
ReplyDeletePlus they could have stuck Bret in the Rumble, he needs to win to get his title back....but loses to HBK. Big heel heat for Shawn, more of a credible threat than Bulldog who I am sure nobody figured would win.
just finished reading the 1995 WWF book. I laughed when they said that Bulldog had a shot at winning. Put Bret in there to at least think of a possible rematch with Backlund or against Diesel.
ReplyDeleteI work six blocks from the arena Raw is at tonight. Should I go? If so, how do I try to get comped tickets, or is that not a thing anymore?
ReplyDeleteHayes is not only a biggot but a shill. Those 2 things for me dont hold much credibility.
ReplyDeleteRemember vividly Pettengill announcing on Mania that there was a new champ and they'd show match in its entirety.
ReplyDeleteAs noted, Scott Steiner was banned from attending this year’s WWE
ReplyDeleteHall of Fame ceremony after an alleged incident involving Hulk Hogan’s
wife.
According to PWInsider.com, Steiner and Hogan’s wife Jennifer were on
the same fight to San Jose, and while they were at the baggage claim,
Steiner approached Hogan’s wife and told her the next time he saw Hogan
there were going to be problems.
Hogan’s wife reportedly didn’t know who Steiner was, so she was very
shaken up by the encounter. Hulk Hogan then reportedly told WWE
officials to ban Steiner from attending the Hall of Fame ceremony, after
which officials made the call to inform security that Steiner would not
be allowed into the building.
Hogan was reportedly telling people over WrestleMania weekend that he
had no idea why Steiner would approach his wife and didn’t know that
there were issues between the two.
Although this is just speculation, Steiner does have a lawsuit
pending with TNA, which stemmed from negative comments Steiner made
about Hogan, his daughter, Eric Bischoff, and other TNA personnel.
The sensible compromise is to have Rousey and Steph in the respective corners of The Rock and HHH. Rousey can do the armbar spot, the marketing still works pretty much the same. Rousey vs. Steph in a singles match is pretty silly unless Steph was willing to let Ronda go all Brock Lesnar on her.
ReplyDeleteYea again her beating Steph up a bit in a non wrestling roll is fine. I am a fan of both companies but ..come on it is a slap in the face of MMA to even have the Steph character agree to a match with Rousey.
ReplyDeleteI was just about to post the exact same thing.
ReplyDeleteSteph said to Brock "I have you under contract for 3 years so you can't go anywhere" but Rousey could fight Steph?
If their idea was for her to fight a guy...and go over...I could see Dana consider it...probably still say no ..because..I don't make any money off her if she gets hurt and unlike a training injury...the world is watching her get hurt here because I dana white was the dummy who agreed to let her do this.
ReplyDeleteBut to fight a 38 year old mother of two whose greatest physical accomplishment is a workout DVD? Dana has spent over a decade trying to make MMA a respectable sport..this wouldn't help
Brood theme is the ranked 81st?
ReplyDeleteHayes never said that was a lie. He said he talked to Sika the next day, who was calm.
ReplyDeleteHayes said something other than still being owed money from (Insert territory here)? That's a Daily Update headline right there!
ReplyDeleteThat would make some sense. If I was Dana I would still shitcan it ..but yes I could see that as a possibility.
ReplyDeleteThere's not a ton of downside to letting her punk out Steph at Mania. I wouldn't let Steph get in any real offense, though.
ReplyDeleteThere are some seriously tough pairings in that theme song contest.
ReplyDeleteThere is no way Stephanie beating up on Ronda would elicit anything but groans. Hell, I don't even think HHH and his entire DX faction is believable to beat Ronda down.
ReplyDeleteBecause that is how the WWE works...not letting Steph get over on someone better than her.
ReplyDeleteI shamefully admit I had no idea who the hell Ronda Rousey was until Wrestlemania :(
ReplyDeleteI meant from Dana's perspective. I could see Steph not wanting to be in that role though. What's the phrase. Woke up on third base and is convinced she hit a triple?
ReplyDeleteRousey is not going to be in a match with Stephanie, not a chance. If anything she will do the Mike Tyson thing or be in the corner for a wrestler, getting involved during the match but not being a part of it officially.
ReplyDeleteHHH took a good bump from her. Because of course that's good television, and HHH is coming around to that.
ReplyDeleteBrock vs Ronda would be the most believable fight for her
ReplyDeleteNah im not saying that. Im just saying I dont believe a guy who would probably get fired for telling the truth.
ReplyDeleteBlasphemy! I still listen to that shit on my iPod.
ReplyDeleteIs this theme song voting going to take 4 and half years to finish like the 90's one?
ReplyDeleteAnd that was the end of it so it worked for everyone. Wrestling fans and what not can go..she is a judo person and caught HHH off guard. It's not like he got up and then started getting dropped with right hands from her.
ReplyDeleteMMA fans can go haha she took out the fake muscle head.
You get into a real match and it's either over in 5 seconds so...what is the point or you have to have Rousey sell for a non Mixed Martial Artist...when in the real world she is finishing top ranked people in under 30 seconds.
That's actually surprising considering even if you don't follow MMA, she has been all over the news for the past 1-2 years.
ReplyDeleteWhat the heck is with the new ESPN website? what was wrong with the old look?
ReplyDeleteAlso why are we voting o theme songs...Jive Soul Bro is right there...lets just save us all a lot of
ReplyDeletecarpal tunnel and crown it now.
There's 256 songs in it, that's192 more than should be in the tournament.
ReplyDeleteBrutal match ups for Sexual Chocolate and Ahmed Johnson. Those aren't first round losers but both will be crushed.
ReplyDeleteI moved to England 3 years ago and MMA is completely off my radar. I actually thought she was a news anchor like katie couric.
ReplyDeleteLooks like Steiner isn't being inducted in the HOF anytime soon.
ReplyDeletemust be racism
ReplyDeleteThat little bit of fantasy booking you just did there is brilliant, it pisses me off that's not what happened!!
ReplyDeleteNah John Cena has an easy first round match and against a fellow black man too.
ReplyDeleteWatched "Wrestling isn't Wrestling" last night.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if I should email Scott the link, I think it's something he would like to watch.
Speaking of Rousey she must have filmed her part for Furious 7 before she did Expendables 3 because while she was far from a Shakespearean actor in expendables she at least wasn't embarrassing. She had one of the worst line readings of all time in Furious. That being said her fight was pretty awesome even if you have to accept the fact that tiny Michelle Rodriguez is some how holding her own in there.
ReplyDeleteDo you actually think Ronda and Steph are going to have a competitive mat-based match or something? Its pro wrestling, they will use all sorts of gimmicks and smoke-and-mirrors.
ReplyDeleteIt never made any sense. Survivor Series was on a Wednesday night where Michaels accidentally hit Nash, allowing Nash to turn on Michaels. By Saturday night, he was WWF Champion. It always reeked of panic when I though Bob Backlund had great heat.
ReplyDeleteI might be taking things to serious but if Ronda gets her hands on Steph and it's not over in 5 seconds..I think that looks bad for MMA and the UFC. Just my opinion.. and I don't see how Dana would agree to it. Maybe they do no submissions or Rousey has one hand tied behind her back or something but it all just comes off as silly crap that the UFC doesn't need.
ReplyDeleteNow have her in a Mike Tysonish type roll or in the Rock's corner and ends up kicking Steph's ass and maybe gets a shot on HHH too..that seems like decent pub for everyone agree and don't have any problem with her being used that way.
I remember in 1994, they were drawing flies like 2,500 to 3,000 for big arena shows. They ever hired an announcer who was interactive with the audience.
ReplyDeleteI remember the house show in MSG before Backlund won the title and he guaranteed the crowd he would return as WWE champion.
ReplyDeleteHey, we almost just made it to ten comments without talking about Chris Benoit and/or Adolph Hitler!
ReplyDelete"Although not contracted for anymore WWE appearances, there is a belief that Rousey will appear at WrestleMania 32 with a tentative plan for a singles match against Stephanie McMahon. "
ReplyDeleteI haven't said this in awhile so excuse me if I'm rusty.
*ahem*
OH LAWDY NOES!!!!
Meltzer responded and said he had several sources back his story up. It's possible that 1. Hayes is lying. 2. Hayes didn't see the family until after things blew over. 3. Meltzer is totally wrong. At this point, it's he said, she said.
ReplyDeleteEven in 91, the matchup was five years past its prime.
ReplyDeleteOh there shouldn't be a real match, I agree. But a "squash/Steph gets handed her ass" affair might be gold.
ReplyDeleteDoesn't matter. I can't see White signing off on something that makes his #1 charge look like a fool unless he has no use for her.
ReplyDeleteVoices of Wrestling
ReplyDelete"Freakzilla" couldn't pick up a woman at the baggage claim? Steiner's losing it. Oh, wait, he already lost it. My bad.
ReplyDeleteIf you can, then go.
ReplyDeleteI'll take a look, thanks.
ReplyDeleteI HATE the new look at ESPN.com
ReplyDeleteSteiner on the incident: Hagawadga RIGHT TA BEE HEEERE HAWAFAME Idunnonothinbout JennifahHESFAT!!!
ReplyDeleteSo Rhonda's last fight got a 500k buyrate, and is appearing in major blockbusters
ReplyDeleteSting was wrestling in front of a dozen people, and his company had to scrap PPVs because nobody was buying them.
Can you see the difference?
So how do you think the WWE addresses AJ Lee's retirement on TV tonight?
ReplyDeleteThey really needed to give Bob more time. Have him come out and chickenwing everyone at random times during the shows, and then you play Diesel as the "enough of this shit" guy.
ReplyDeleteI would have had him turn his back and let Bob slap the chickenwing on, then power out of it, and THEN hit the jacknife. Decisive without looking like a fluke, and who cares if it ruins Bob's finisher.
As far as I'm concerned, seeing Flair turn up on WWF programming is still THE most shocking story development I've ever witnessed in wrestling. What newer fans perhaps don't understand is that back in those days, the WWF refused to acknowledge that any kind of wrestling other than WWF wrestling even existed. So you had former NWA World Champions such as Harley Race and Dusty Rhodes show up in the WWF, and their past wasn't recognised at all. They were just sort of passed off as "exciting newcomers", like their wrestling careers began and ended with the WWF. So for the NWA's biggest ever star to suddenly show up on WWF programming and for Bobby Heenan to acknowledge him as the "REAL World's Heavyweight Champion" was just a massive, mind blowing deal at the time.
ReplyDeleteOf course, in the later Monday night wars, you had big name wrestlers jumping ship all the time, to the point where there wasn't even any shock value in it anymore. But back in 1991, it was a seismic event.
It's a mystery to me how the WWF somehow failed to turn Flair vs Hogan into a major draw as well. The Apter mags used to always speculate about a Flair vs Hogan match, but nobody ever really believed it was possible at that time. In hindsight, the Apter mags perhaps painted a rather misleading portrait of how big a star Ric Flair actually was. They painted it like Flair and Hogan were almost an equal footing. But of course, they weren't really. Flair was only a big deal in the Crockett territories. Hogan was a much bigger star throughout the US and worldwide. So in all probability, a lot of WWF fans might not have even been aware of who Flair was.
they don't
ReplyDeleteBellas bring out midget lee.
ReplyDeleteMy sources tell me Bob Barker, Samoan enthusiast, was very disappointed that Reigns didn't go over.
ReplyDeletethey don't and never mention her again just like kelly kelly and kaitlyn
ReplyDeleteI say they don't.
ReplyDeleteAJ clearly gave them no notice she was leaving otherwise, why else would she have gone over at Wrestlemania. So just move on with Naomi as the next challenger.
A midget is almost the same height as AJ.
ReplyDeleteWho knows if it will happen but if it does its not to have Steph and Ronda trade armbars
ReplyDeleteI didn't see anything about this other than the headline that she was retiring. Did she spring this on them? I know there had been a lot of talk on line about her walking away but WWE sure seems to have been using her as if she wasn't going anywhere.
ReplyDeleteAlso cause wcw
ReplyDeleteNo way Dana allows her to do a job
He did a house show circuit with Bob challenging Diesel that drew just as badly as Bob would have as champion.
ReplyDeleteThe world would be a better place if there were no black people. Just saying.
ReplyDeleteStephanie comes out to open the show and says she ran AJ out of the WWE.
ReplyDeleteFlair's first WWF house show in Charlotte was in the summer of 1992 and he ran the same finish against Savage. Of course, we all cheered when he "won" the match but it was obvious the DQ was coming when Flair sloppily hid the knucks in his armpit and when he hand was raised -- oops, they fell out.
ReplyDeleteSon, back in my day trolls took more pride in their work than this.
ReplyDeleteI could see that bombing since Diesel already squashed him in 8 seconds. Why would anyone think Bob would be a threat to Nash after that?
ReplyDeleteShe comes out and says...look what happens when I give divas a chance...they take their ball and go home.
ReplyDeleteShe is completely forgotten and they act like she never existed.
ReplyDeleteOverbooked mess where the Bellas interfere, Rousey gets knocked out and Steph puts a MMA hold on her and forces the ref to call for the bell and say she passed out from the pain or something.
ReplyDeleteThe boos would be deafening and the internetz would explode as Steph becomes the new millennium Verge Gagne.
I think it was probably an indication that the House Show business model was starting to slide, but it got pinned on Flair.
ReplyDeleteI don't think there was a feud after 1989 that did the money on the house show circuit like the feuds in the 80's.
I can't see JBL go an entire show without taking a shot at her.
ReplyDeleteThe truth is -- as the Sammartino shoot made really clear -- despite the WWF going national they still did better in certain parts of the country than others. While Vince kept on insisting that the WWF was national they drew their best crowds in the Northeast and West Coast cities. They had a much more difficult time in the South, specifically in Crockett territory.
ReplyDeleteI figured that since the Hogan-Flair WWF house show matches never had a clean finish that they would have settled everything at Wrestlemania. It was a massive disappointment when that Wrestlemania match never materialized. Then again we did get that amazing Flair-Savage match instead; however, we also got that terrible Sid-Hogan match as well.
Call me an MMA purist, but I hate seeing the lines between MMA and wrestling blurred like this. One of the main draws of MMA is it is legit. Once you start cooperating like that, MMA becomes more like sportz entertainment and competing with Vince at that tends to not go well.
ReplyDeleteThere's literally a better chance of me getting a singles match against Stephanie at WM32 than Ronda.
ReplyDeletePeople here think AJ is a lot more popular than she really is in terms of the WWE.
ReplyDeleteI always wondered how much promotion did those matches get? It's one thing if they're heavily advertised and the houses sucked but to me it seemed like Flair showed up on tv and then all of a sudden the was fighting Hogan at house shows. He debuted in August of 1991 and Hogan lost the title at Survivor Series so those matches would've had about two months of build-up at most.
ReplyDeleteRonda is popular, Steph has to get her name involved with her to show that she is powerful, too. I swear the McMahons and Triple H have the lowest self-esteem on the planet.
ReplyDeleteSorry. I'll do better I promise
ReplyDeleteI think she could have been more popular, but building big stars doesn't seem to be WWE's strong suit right now.
ReplyDeleteI know we joke about Scott Steiner a lot here, but all kidding aside this guy seems like a total prick with serious issues.
ReplyDeleteDoom is seeded #177?!? FOR SHAME!
ReplyDeleteAJ was pushed to the moon though.I wouldn't blame this on the WWE
ReplyDeleteIf we build them into stars they start getting uppity...acting like they deserve respect
ReplyDeleteShe's a diva, she can easily be replaced.
ReplyDeleteIt has nothing to do with her popularity with the fans. It has to do with if you think that WWE will just ignore it or will they be petty and take a shot at her.
ReplyDeleteThat DDP story..holy shit.
ReplyDeletePart of Diesel's problem was that it came off like Bret was cheated, Diesel got a title shot at Bret's expense and then couldn't beat Bret.
ReplyDeleteShe isn't a big enough star that they would do that is what I am saying.
ReplyDeleteI guess Ronda is also known to be a wrestling fan. So for her, it's a fun thing to do. I just think of things like Pancrase where some of the fights were fixed, and PRIDE where guys like Mark Coleman would throw a fight for a huge payoff.
ReplyDeleteThe Japanese are a lot more forgiving of that kind of crossover of sports/sportz entertainment, but I don't know if that works so well in the states. Once that legitimacy is gone, what would the UFC be? Second best at something that isn't very popular in the mainstream right now anyway.
That's one of 80 reasons why Dana isn't going to sign off on a match
ReplyDeleteI think he was one of those guys who used to be ok, but just fell off the sanity cliff at some point. Some wrestlers have no problem with the guy.
ReplyDeleteScott Steiner is one of those wrestlers I have no respect for as a human being.
ReplyDeleteIn regards to the self-esteem, yeah, I think that tends to be a trait of aggressive businesspeople - they are covering for some kind of deficiency. Well-adjusted people tend to work jobs that let them have a life, because they LIKE their lives.
ReplyDeleteDamn, ran out of hard drive space on my ps3.
ReplyDeleteI can go with that.
ReplyDeleteBTW - Did you get my E-mail?
....wait the network edited Bryan's "what we do is fiction" line for the HOF?......for fuck sake.
ReplyDeletemuh kayfabe
ReplyDeleteExactly. It was ridiculous.
ReplyDeleteIf that had happened today with Roman Reigns I think this blog and a few other wrestling sites would have just exploded.
Pushed within what WWE is willing to do with Divas. In general, you'll get treated better by WWE if you are successful at something else first (notice it wasn't any of the divas that got to stand up to Stephanie with the Rock).
ReplyDeleteJust the fact that they are called Divas is still stupid to me.
Don't know why, they consistently break kayfabe in their docs all the time.
ReplyDeleteMMA is as fake as wrestling. Dana pushes who he wants to push. Fights may be real, but everything else is as booked as wrestling.
ReplyDeleteToo many drugs over too many years...
ReplyDeletePlease elaborate on this...I love crazy Scott Steiner stories.
ReplyDeleteRonda vs Steph in a Bra & Panties match. Submissions and pinfalls don' t count and everyone goes home happy.
ReplyDeleteAnd Vince himself did a live podcast on there talking about backstage bookings of matches.
ReplyDeleteYes I did and its a go
ReplyDeleteSome truth to that. Just look at all the "boring" fighters that get leapfrogged by guys that are 4-5 rankings lower than them for title shots.
ReplyDeleteI personally think Dana White fucked up for not trying to do more with Kimbo. Yeah he was a bum but he had a bigger buzz than most of the people in UFC at the time. When someone has a strong name like that you HAVE to take advantage of it.
ReplyDeleteThe Royal Rumble would have been the perfect event to do an eight second world title match since the Royal Rumble is the main event anyway.
ReplyDeleteYet another shitty rebranding by a huge corporation that was completely unnecessary
ReplyDeleteCool..
ReplyDeleteit was a great moment and a great speech from Bryan...just a dumb dumb move.
ReplyDeleteWhat's sad is that all the time between WrestleMania's is usually useless now as the regular talent is pushed aside and tossed into random mid-lowcard matches for all of the part-timers come Mania season.
ReplyDeleteHe got knocked out by a jab. That killed Elite XC DEAD.
ReplyDeleteI'm no MMA purist (never watched a single bout ever) but I also hate this idea. It's just too unrealistic that a Stephanie could last five seconds with a real fighter. Also, NOBODY WANTS TO SEE STEPHANIE IN A MATCH OF ANY SORT. When are they gonna realize this?
ReplyDeletewhat was there to do with him? the guy could get taken down by a middle school wrestler
ReplyDeleteI wonder how her workout DVD is selling
ReplyDeleteHe gives more opportunities to people who can sell tickets, but if you are good enough you will get your chance. And like you said, the fights are real. That's good enough for me.
ReplyDeleteAnd I don't have to sit through HOURS of bad soap operas with shit writing and terrible acting.
Yeah Michelle Rodriguez is tiny but at least she looks like she actually weight trains in a gym, unlike 90% of Hollywood actresses.
ReplyDeleteThe promo in question
ReplyDeletehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=763Isvy65ws
Promo for the most part. You have him show up and talk shit but you keep him out of the ring a long as possible. Then feed him a steady diet of bums until people get tired of him.
ReplyDeleteGo and see if you can get comped. Otherwise, go home.
ReplyDeleteI like the closeups of Naomi's ass in the video.
ReplyDeleteGuys I am very mad over a match that may or may not happen in roughly a year from now! Can you imagine now something that isn't even signed off one is going to go down? Like how it the world could the fake not-even-wrestler girl stay in the ring for more than 5 seconds against this world famous superstar!? Now I know the match hasn't been signed yet, but I'm going to fantasy book the worst possible scenario and rail against it! Even though nothing has been signed yet and the possible match is a year away.
ReplyDeleteI respectfully disagree. He was already exposed and what you are talking about just wouldn't work in UFC, if he was being clearly protected to just beat people with no skills up the UFC fans would shit on it.
ReplyDelete...the fuck?!?!?
ReplyDeleteWe can agree to disagree.
ReplyDeletehave you seen some of those MMA guys try to cut press conference promos? They're as bad as Ryback!
ReplyDeleteIt was edited because while everything they do IS fiction, what you are seeing on this screen, right now, is REAL.
ReplyDeleteI don't really like it either. I would actually prefer that this doesn't even happen. The entire promotion and advertisement for Wrestlemania 32 would revolve around this ridiculous match between the owner's daughter and a MMA fighter, which would be a 10 minute squash and we can hear Cole ramble about this being a WRESTLEMANIA MOMENT.
ReplyDeleteI like Ronda, but just really keep it separate.
LOL I forgot about that. We certainly aren't hearing much buzz about it, are we?
ReplyDeleteWhat is best case scenario?
ReplyDeleteIt's the pitfall of fight sports; ask Marvin Hagler about winning a fight when your opponent is booked to go over.
ReplyDeletenope..sorry I feel this has deteriorated and now we must commence with the flaming and trolling ...clearly a blog feud has begun.
ReplyDeleteAnd that is the problem with MMA. If I was a star in the UFC you can damned well bet I'd have people to coach me on how to do an interview and I'd be watch tons of wrestling/boxing promos.
ReplyDeleteThat's why I don't watch press conferences. I don't pay money to hear them talk, I want to see them fight.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely get that it's not for everyone, but I love it and I don't want to see it become something it's not.
...um, I'm rubber and you're glue?
ReplyDeleteRousey rips her head off and drinks her blood...Brock comes out and they get it on right there ...impregnating Rousey and thus bringing the chosen one.. the one true warrior to lead us from these dark ages into a united world under the Brock/Rousey love child of doom's reign?
ReplyDeleteI think Lance Storm said that Steiner was backstage clipping his fingernails when DDP came back and tried to him. If he hadn't just cut his nails, Steiner probably would've succeeded in gouging DDP's eyes out.
ReplyDelete.............fine you win
ReplyDeletehttp://i.imgur.com/qV2jb.gif
ReplyDeleteHis name will be Skaar as it is told in the prophecy:
ReplyDeletehttp://static.comicvine.com/uploads/original/7/78486/2457623-SkaarSonOfHulk_1280-373310.jpeg
1) Yay
ReplyDelete2) HAHAHAHAHAHA....Like this is ever going to happen. Just pencil in the Rock/Ronda v. Authority tag match now because with a year to plan I still can't see how Ronda would agree to a worked match for more than a minute with what equates to any random chick off the streets.
3) Of course you guys know the Scott Steiner story isn't going to end well. My hope is that he's the only one that suffers in it. The thing is as much as I enjoyed his work back in the day I don't think he was any less of an asshole, it's just as he's gotten older and isn't in the spotlight more things are coming to the surface.
4) Very well done.
I hate to say this but I find Ronda Rossey vs Stephanie McMahon more believable than any other Rossey matchup with any of the Divas with the exception of Natalya.
ReplyDeleteIf #2 happens, this company is just a lost cause.
ReplyDeleteTamina would be more believable than either of them. She's pretty big and Samoan.
ReplyDeleteI will laugh hysterically if Steph writhes in an armbar for 15 seconds before tapping (if she does at all) and understand it's different because she's not a real wrestler, but hasn't wrestling based its entire history on who is "really" tough not being important?
ReplyDeleteIf it were "real", wouldn't Brock kill everyone in a minute? Shamrock? Severn? Wouldn't Haku have been the champion? Wouldn't HBK have been a jobber?
I don't like it since Rousey is a current MMA fighter (as opposed to someone who is a full-time wrestler) and think there is a good chance the crowd's buzz will die if Steph survives longer than Zangano, but I'm not sure how you could promote a big match like that and have it only go 10 seconds.
Isn't she related to someone in the business?
ReplyDeleteI grant you that one but she has no credibility as a wrestler.
ReplyDelete2- Random chick off the street? She has her own workout DVD, you know.
ReplyDeleteRoman Reigns' cousin,right?
ReplyDeleteIt's different because all these other guys are still trained athletes, Stephanie's just a McMahon.
ReplyDeleteThe build up :
ReplyDeleteSteph is shown as a delusional megalomaniac who somehow convinced herself that she can hang in the ring with Rousey. Because she spent so much time emasculating and verbally abusing all the people around no one try to dissuade her. Some of them even encouraging her.
The match :
At WM she had one of the most over the top entrance like her husband but as soon as the match start she get her arm broken (kayfabe) in a few seconds.
That would be a nice come uppance to her on-screen character
She's got more than Steph.
ReplyDeleteI still think Backlund should have kept the title to 'Mania - what better way to put over "The New Generation" then having some old geezer from pre-Hulkamania holding the title hostage?
ReplyDeleteSeriously. I know these guys love their craft, but this model would make me look for other employment.
ReplyDeleteI always thought heel Backlund had terribly boring matches and go away heat as a promo. I'm aghast he was champion for so long.
ReplyDeleteSteiner is the greatest of all time.
ReplyDeleteI really feel like Sting boned your mom or something (I mean we know Steve Borden be laying the pipe). Your hatred for him is insane.
ReplyDelete..........just..................just a McMahon?!?!?!....That's an American dynasty you are talking about there pal!
ReplyDeleteI like this tournament. It's nice knowing all the songs.
ReplyDeleteLove me some black twitter:
ReplyDeletehttp://i.imgur.com/McKlJcC.png
Did they already tape Raw or are they doing it this afternoon?
ReplyDeletelol go away heat
ReplyDeleteMy apologies :)
ReplyDeleteWhy do you read online wrestling rumors if everything reported is made up?
ReplyDeleteIf the fights are real, it doesn't strike me that MMA is as fake as wrestling, really.
ReplyDeleteGive me Rousey vs. Edge's baby mama and I'm intrigued with a fun worked match.
ReplyDeleteOh damn, do they start the British shit starting tonight? Outside of the HBK-Cena match from 07 these are always my least favorite Raws.
ReplyDeleteDougie is it true your old enough to have trolled Bruno fans about Backlund getting the strap?
ReplyDeleteNah, Britain is next week! And I'm gonna be there!
ReplyDeleteSeems it is in texas to night so I don't think so
ReplyDeleteI doubt even the most absurd fantasy book would make me hang myself, but it's fun to speculate on what the McMahons will do. Plus, it gives her/their defenders a "See! It wasn't as bad as it could have been/you thought it would be!"
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of.
ReplyDeleteGood call, for some reason I thought they were doing the euro tour now.
ReplyDeleteYou should have a properly mediocre time!
ReplyDeleteIt should be noted that Backlund crawled his way back through the curtain at MSG to really sell the Jackknife. Total pro.
ReplyDeleteTo clarify, I'll be at Raw. Not just in Britain also. I'm almost always in Britain.
ReplyDeleteAngle would have been champ for years
ReplyDeleteYou should storm in the locker room, call yourself Union Jack and challenge any of them to a fight!
ReplyDeleteReminds me of how the PGA TOUR wrecked their website. I still hate it and they'd had the look for a year now.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely hate the ESPN page. I've visited it MUCH less since the change.
Hbk couldnt even beat a marine in Syracuse
ReplyDeleteYou should bring back the Fandango chant.
ReplyDeleteBrutal run in my fantasy playoffs. Didn't advance in hockey due to 1 power play point and didn't advance in basketball due to 1 three pointer.
ReplyDeleteIt was EIGHT marines :)
ReplyDeleteNice edit.
ReplyDeleteTWELVE!
ReplyDeleteFIFTEEN!
ReplyDelete
